Chapter 17 - Kakashi's unofficial Successor

Later That Morning...

After washing off the sweat and bruises in a nearby lake, Haruto returned to the apartment, feeling refreshed. As he stepped inside, he found Naruto still snoring, sprawled out like a starfish.

Haruto sighed, walked over, and bent down.

"Narutoooo!"

Naruto jolted awake and immediately face-planted off the bed.

"Ouch! What the heck was that for?!"

Haruto crossed his arms. "You've been asleep for ten hours, idiot. Do you even know what time it is?"

Naruto groaned. "So what..."

"So what," Haruto echoed with a dangerous grin. The air shifted. A dark aura oozed off him as he slowly cracked his knuckles like a villain from a horror film.

Naruto gulped, eyes wide. "Ah! Wait—I just remembered! Kakashi-sensei said something—really important! Gotta go!"

Before Haruto could respond, Naruto bolted out the door.

"GET BACK HERE, YOU SLEEPY LOSER!"

Haruto chased after him, though at a more relaxed pace. He wasn't really mad—he just wanted Naruto moving.

---

Konoha Streets...

As Naruto wandered through the village, catching his breath, he noticed something. Children were walking hand-in-hand with their parents, laughing, playing in the parks, swinging on swings.

A man pushed his son gently.

"Haha!" the man laughed as his son squealed with joy.

The air was filled with warmth and laughter.

Naruto stopped, staring.

For the first time that day, he felt it—

That hollow pit of loneliness.

The feeling of being an outsider, watching something that wasn't meant for him.

He stood frozen, gaze lingering on the children and their parents. On what he never had.

That's when Haruto arrived, quietly watching his little brother's back.

With a small sigh, he walked over and smacked Naruto lightly.

"Yikes!" Naruto jumped, spun around.

"Oh, it's just you..." he exhaled in relief.

Then—

"Wait! You were mad—!"

Naruto darted off again.

"Oh no, you don't!" Haruto chuckled and chased after him—still not at full speed.

They weaved through alleyways and open streets. Naruto took every detour he could, but eventually stopped, panting and hunched over.

Haruto caught up with ease, barely winded.

"Okay, okay! You win!" Naruto threw up his hands in surrender.

Haruto smiled. "Good. Now let's train."

The smile on Naruto's face vanished instantly.

"C'mon, just today off? Please?" he begged with big, watery eyes.

Haruto crossed his arms. "You want to become Hokage, don't you? That takes more than dreams. You need skill. Power. Dedication."

"How about this—I'll do extra tomorrow! Pinky promise!"

Haruto narrowed his eyes. "You've been skipping since the day we started that B-rank mission, Naruto."

Naruto let out a nervous laugh. "Ha... haha..."

Without warning, Haruto scooped him up in a princess carry.

"Wha—WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! HARUTO, YOU'RE INSANE!"

"Maybe."

"You're gonna ruin my reputation like this!"

Haruto didn't reply—but his lips curled into a devilish smile.

"Put me down! I HAVE DIGNITY!"

As Naruto squirmed like a kitten trying to escape, he briefly slipped—but Haruto caught him before he hit the ground.

"How did you even—? I was balancing on my toes!"

Haruto smirked. "Naruto... you can hide, but you can't run."

---

Training ground

Haruto dropped Naruto with a thud.

"Fifty pushups. Now."

"What?! That's child abuse!"

Haruto sat on Naruto's back.

"Continue."

Naruto groaned and started the pushups. When he hit fifty, he gasped, "Okay—I'm done, right?"

"Nineteen more."

"Ughhh..." Naruto kept going. When he finished, he collapsed.

"Done. I swear. I'm a dead man."

"One more."

---

That night, Naruto lay spread out across his bed like he'd been attacked by a ghost in his sleep. His limbs spasmed involuntarily from exhaustion.

Haruto watched from the other side of the room, arms behind his head, a satisfied grin on his face.

'One hundred pushups, lunges, squats... and a full spar with me.'

He smirked.

'At this rate... he might actually be stronger before the chunin exams.'

Meanwhile Naruto's dream

A Wild Guy with Deep crimson hair kept running after him

"20 more Naruto! You can do this"

"Fuck you!"

"Come here you little ass"

"Kakashi sensei!!!! Help me!!!"

Poor Naruto, even in his dream his brother wasn't gonna let him go and get peace

...

Timeskip: One Month Later

In the past month, both Haruto and Naruto had become proficient in the Body Flicker Technique. But Haruto? He was different. A breed apart.

While Naruto mastered it through sheer determination, Haruto's System perks allowed him to refine the technique to an elite level—effortlessly vanishing and reappearing mid-motion with deadly precision.

But that wasn't all.

In a rare decision, Kakashi agreed to train Haruto in Kenjutsu—his personal sword style from his time in the ANBU. The same one he'd never passed on to anyone outside the Hatake clan...even though there is no one in his clan...

Why did he agree?

Simple.

Haruto was a genius—one who outmaneuvered Zabuza Momochi, one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, using nothing but tactical brilliance and ocular power. Kakashi had seen the potential... and couldn't say no.

But he gave a single condition:

> "Don't use your eye power recklessly in front of others during the Chunin Exams. Do you understand?"

Haruto nodded without hesitation.

And so, the training began.

Kakashi was ruthless. From dawn till dusk, he drilled Haruto in the fundamentals and advanced forms of Kenjutsu. He even tested his chakra nature—only to discover something shocking.

Haruto had an affinity with all five chakra natures.

Kakashi was speechless. But he didn't hold back.

He passed down every sword technique he knew—chakra flow, silent killing, pressure-point precision, and misdirection strikes. Everything. If anyone could carry the Hatake style forward, it was Haruto.

By the end of the month, Haruto wasn't just a skilled swordsman.

He was Kakashi's unofficial successor.

Present Day – Training Ground #3

A soft breeze drifted through the clearing. The sun filtered through the trees above the wooden bridge in the center of the field. Team 7 stood there—Naruto bouncing on his heels, Sakura alert, and Haruto... calm as ever.

Kakashi appeared atop the bridge's arch, lazily waving.

"Yo."

"Kakashi-sensei!" Naruto beamed. "You're late again!"

"I was on the road of life," he replied with a shrug. "But don't worry—I've got good news."

Haruto narrowed his eyes. So it's time.

"What is it, Kakashi-sensei?" Naruto asked curiously.

With a sly smile, Kakashi reached into his flak vest and pulled out three rectangular slips.

"You've all been recommended for the Chunin Exams," he said, revealing the tickets. "Here—they're yours."

Everyone froze.

Well, everyone except Haruto.

Naruto's jaw dropped. Then he screamed in joy and leapt onto Kakashi's chest in a tight hug, swinging around like a child on a jungle gym.

"Thank you, Kaka-sensei!"

"Ugh—get off me, Naruto..." Kakashi sighed, trying to peel him off

Once Naruto finally let go, Kakashi stepped forward and grew more serious.

"The Chunin Exams are held to evaluate genin ready for promotion. You'll be competing against genin from other villages—and it won't be friendly."

He held up a finger.

"There are three phases: a written test, a survival round, and a one-on-one tournament. Pass all three, and you might be promoted."

Naruto blinked. "Wait—a written test?!"

"Yes," Kakashi replied, smirking. "And cheating is expected—just don't get caught."

Haruto gave a nod. So it's finally beginning.

Kakashi continued, "You'll need teamwork, intelligence, and the ability to adapt. But more than anything—don't die. These exams aren't a game."

He looked at each of them.

"Rest up. Train. And be ready. In a few days, you'll represent not just yourselves—but the entire Hidden Leaf Village."
