Chapter 56 - The Incoming Enemy

Beside the corpse of the Illusionary Heavenly Silkworm, Huo Yuhao sat cross-legged, golden, purple, and black spirit rings rising from his body. It had to be said that the spirit ring from the Illusionary Heavenly Silkworm was indeed gentle. Huo Yuhao only took half an hour to absorb it, and no accidents occurred during the process. Even Huo Yuhao himself was a bit surprised by how smoothly it went.

It's worth mentioning that Huo Yuhao's spirit power had now leaped to level 35. After reaching a bottleneck, a Soul Master typically gains at least one level upon absorbing a spirit ring of the standard age. Absorbing a ring beyond the standard limit might provide an even greater boost. After absorbing the Illusionary Heavenly Silkworm's ring, Huo Yuhao's power had reached level 31. The remaining four levels were brought about by the Ice Empress.

Had it not been for Huo Yuhao's cultivation of the Soul Refinement Technique, which made his spirit power much deeper than others at the same level, his improvement would've been even more ridiculous. After all, both the Illusionary Heavenly Silkworm and the Ice Empress were spirit beasts far beyond what his current level should be able to handle.

Normally, the standard ages for absorbing spirit rings are as follows:

First ring: 423 years

Second ring: 764 years

Third ring: 1,760 years

Fourth ring: 5,000 years

Fifth ring: 12,000 years

Sixth ring: 20,000 years

Seventh ring: 50,000 years

Eighth ring: under 100,000 years

Ninth ring: 100,000 years

Of course, this is just a guideline. The actual age one can absorb depends on the Soul Master's individual condition, the bloodline and attribute of the spirit beast, and other factors.

Just like the so-called Master who proposed this theory with full confidence—only to get repeatedly slapped in the face by his own beloved disciple. No need to go into those details.

Suddenly, Huo Yuhao's body, sitting upright, began to blur. A flash of white light passed, revealing a teenage girl with twin ponytails in his place. Golden accessories adorned her hair, a golden crown on her head. Her amber eyes were like pools of autumn water. Petite and exquisite, she wore a white and green gown radiating nobility.

In the Spiritual Sea, Ice Empress and Skydream Iceworm exchanged glances, their expressions a bit awkward. The form Huo Yuhao had changed into—was exactly that of the Ice Empress.

Another flash of white light—Huo Yuhao transformed into a massive worm nearly eight meters long. It looked plump, with a round head and tiny sparkling golden eyes. Its body was jade white and translucent, glowing slightly under the skin. Below its head, there were mysterious circular golden patterns—ten in total.

Skydream Iceworm: "..."

A moment later, the worm vanished and Huo Yuhao returned to his original form. His three rings—gold, purple, black—kept changing colors: white, then purple, then multicolored, before finally reverting to their original hues.

"Simulation? Interesting."Huo Yuhao opened his eyes, realizing that this third spirit ring was extremely practical. It could not only recolor spirit rings but also allow him to transform his body—like a mini version of Sun Wukong's Seventy-Two Transformations.

Getting up, with the mission completed, Huo Yuhao prepared to return. As his sleeve flapped, countless Bloodflame Thorns arranged themselves into a sled on the ground. Just as he was about to step on it, he paused, "Sun Wukong? Somersault Cloud?"

Huo Yuhao laughed. How could I forget that? In the next moment, he thought of the sword-immortals from novels—flying through the skies on swords. Why shouldn't my Bloodflame Thorns be able to do the same?

Without hesitation, the sled disassembled. The densely packed Bloodflame Thorns gathered at a single point. In a flash, a giant blood-red sword about two meters long and 30 cm wide appeared, floating half a meter above the ground under Huo Yuhao's control.

With a smile, Huo Yuhao stepped onto the sword. The moment he landed, the sword sank slightly under his weight—but held firm without falling.

Seeing this, Huo Yuhao grew even more excited. He cautiously used his spiritual power to steer the Bloodflame Sword forward, maintaining a height of about six or seven meters. Still unfamiliar, he nonetheless enjoyed himself thoroughly.

Skydream Iceworm and Ice Empress smiled. The two former powerhouses had long mastered flight. Flying through the air? Child's play.

But hey—who hasn't dreamed of being a sword immortal as a kid? Wandering the world with sword in hand? Something like that was beyond the comprehension of these two spirit beasts.

Luckily, this was a remote area. Huo Yuhao's commotion didn't attract any spirit beasts. After playing around for a bit and getting used to flying on a sword, Huo Yuhao got back on track. He deliberately slowed his speed to wait for his split soul to return.

As expected, half an hour later, Huo Yuhao and Ice Empress's split souls returned—bringing with them an unexpected guest. It was a woman in white, long hair down to her waist, with an exquisitely beautiful face almost too perfect for the mortal world. She exuded an aura of purity and elegance.

Receiving the soul fragments, Huo Yuhao immediately understood what happened and couldn't help but twitch his mouth. Turns out, Snow Empress had also sent a split soul, just like he did. Except hers was vastly more powerful.

Her excuse? To experience the outside world with Huo Yuhao, which might help her cultivate by broadening her state of mind.

What a load of crap.Huo Yuhao knew full well—Snow Empress just wanted to observe his character and see if he really had the potential to become a god.

A classic ancient schemer move—but not a big deal. Whether three or four people were inside his spiritual sea—he was already in deep debt anyway.

Huo Yuhao didn't say much. He let Snow Empress enter his Spiritual Sea and resumed his journey.

Compared to Huo Yuhao, Ice Empress was much more shocked upon reclaiming her split soul. But she didn't make a fuss—Huo Yuhao had warned them earlier: the events that happened in Snow Empress's mental sea must remain confidential and not be mentioned again after they left.

Huo Yuhao remembered reading in the original novel that god-level experts could eavesdrop on transmissions between low-level Soul Masters, so to be safe, he spoke with Snow Empress only within her own spiritual sea.

He felt maybe he was being overly cautious, but it was always better to be safe. No room for wishful thinking.

Once out of the Extreme North, to avoid drawing attention with his unique flight method, Huo Yuhao bypassed towns and only traveled through remote, uninhabited areas.

But trouble always comes uninvited.

While passing through an ordinary forest, Huo Yuhao slowed down his flight. A faint sense of danger crept over him.

Scanning the surroundings, Huo Yuhao quickly realized it wasn't his imagination. Up ahead, there were at least six auras not weaker than Soul Ancestors, with one even stronger—likely a Soul King. His mind raced. Are they here for me? Have I offended anyone? Only Xu Sanshi came to mind, but surely not…

Unfortunately, the other side seemed to notice something as well.

"Take him!"With a loud shout, five figures leaped from the forest ahead, charging without hesitation. Various Martial Souls were released, with a mess of white, yellow, and purple spirit rings. An explosion of spirit abilities came crashing toward Huo Yuhao.

Behind the five, a young man with black wings soared into the air, his eyes locked onto Huo Yuhao as well.

Seeing the barrage of attacks coming, Huo Yuhao knew words were useless. The Bloodflame Sword scattered back into Bloodflame Thorns. Some morphed into a Bloodflame Spear in his hand, while others clung tightly to his body, forming armor.

With his sword platform gone, Huo Yuhao plummeted quickly to the ground. His attackers immediately followed in hot pursuit.

The leading youth also chased him down, but upon landing, all he saw was his companions looking at each other in confusion—the kid was gone without a trace. He closed his eyes to sense his surroundings—but picked up nothing. His brows furrowed deeply.
