Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Is that... really a Pidgeotto?

[Pidgey is resonating with the move Sandstorm…]

[Pidgey is mutating…]

"What? It's mutating?" Rael thought, his excitement rising.

The light subsided.

Standing proudly in its place was no ordinary Pidgeotto.

Its feathers were a rich earthy bronze, like baked clay kissed by desert winds. Its wings were broad and powerful, layered in tough, stone-like scales rather than soft plumage. Its head crest was a rugged flame-orange, swept back like a warrior's plume, and its piercing eyes glinted with fierce intensity.

[Pidgey has evolved into Pidgeotto!]

"What's that?" Daisy immediately blurted out. "That's… not a normal Pidgeotto!"

Rael's heart thudded in his chest. "Pokemon Analysis," he muttered under his breath.

'This…' Rael trembled at the sheer excitement. 'This is amazing!'

'He gained the Ground type, his stats soared up, he gained a new ability, and his genetics even strengthened!'

'Is my Lucky Guy skill so strong?!' he wondered, a wild grin spreading across his face.

'With the Ground type, he won't have to fear the Lightning type anymore!' Rael thought.

The powerful Pidgeotto let out a proud cry, wings flaring, then gently descended to perch on Rael's arm. Its claws felt like hardened earth—firm, protective, heavy with strength.

Rael stared up at his partner. "You just earned yourself a spot on the main team, buddy."

And Pidgeotto chirped back with pride.

'Show me Pidgeotto's ability.'

[Terraflight]

[Switching between sky and soil empowers Pidgeotto's strikes.]

'Eh? What does this mean? Pidgeotto's strikes get stronger if I use either Flying-type or Ground-type moves?' Rael thought.

[More or less, host.]

[When Pidgeotto uses a Flying-type move, its Ground-type moves gain +30% power on the next turn, and vice versa.]

Rael's eyes widened. 'This is... completely broken!'

He looked at his proud Pidgeotto again, still glowing slightly from its recent evolution. "Yep, nobody is gonna take away your spot."

"Rest now," Rael said, returning him to the Pokéball.

"Rii!" Riolu clung to Rael's leg. He was clearly jealous of all the attention Pidgeotto had gotten. In the time they had been together, he and Rael had bonded deeply. To Riolu, Rael wasn't just a trainer—he was his best friend. His family.

"Sorry, Riolu..." Rael said with a chuckle, lifting the red Riolu onto his shoulder.

"Rael!" Daisy rushed up, practically bouncing with excitement. "Can you let me study your Pidgeotto later? Please? I've never seen one like that before!"

Her enthusiasm made Rael smile. "Sure."

Just then, Misty, who had been quiet until now, finally spoke up.

"Ehm, R-Rael…"

She was blushing hard. Seeing Pidgey's strange evolution, how Rael had guided it, how he treated his Pokémon with love and pride—her heart bumped a little harder in her chest. She'd always dreamed of finding someone handsome, kind, and talented. Maybe... Rael was that guy.

"What is it, Misty?" Rael asked, tilting his head. His red Riolu was now playfully running his fingers through Rael's smooth red hair, almost addicted to the silky texture.

Misty's blush deepened under his gaze. "Ehm—"

"Rael, come look here!" Delia's voice suddenly called out from nearby.

Misty flinched.

AGHHH! Why do I keep getting interrupted?! she screamed in her head, fists clenching in quiet frustration.

Rael rushed over to Delia, drawn by the urgency in her voice.

She was crouched near the shallow waters, holding something gently in her hands. Her expression was soft, maternal. "Look," she said, turning to him with a small smile. "Gyarados was just trying to protect its egg."

Rael blinked. "An egg?" he muttered, stepping closer as Delia passed it carefully into his hands.

It was warm. Lightly trembling. Still alive. Still fighting.

Delia let out a breath, her eyes still on the unconscious serpent. "I… I thought it was just lashing out, trying to kill that girl because it wanted to," she said quietly. "But it was just protecting its baby…" Being a mother, she understood that feeling with every fiber of her heart.

"If it's his," Daisy said, adjusting her glasses, "it should be a Magikarp egg…"

"Yeah, it's a Magikarp egg," Misty confirmed beside them without missing a beat.

Daisy shot her a sharp glance.

"What?" Misty huffed. "I am an expert on Water-types!" she added, crossing her arms proudly.

Rael wasn't paying attention to either of them. He had just received a system message.

[Would you like to use Pokémon Analysis on the egg?]

'You can do that?' Rael blinked. 'Do it.'

[Magikarp (Shiny)]

[Gender: Male]

[Type: Water]

[Nature: Serious]

[Ability: Rattled]

[Stats: Still developing]

[Genetics:

[Signs of hatching: Soon]

Rael stared, stunned. 'A shiny Magikarp? With those genetics?! And even with the hidden ability?!'

He had been looking for a good Magikarp for a while, dreaming of raising a powerful Gyarados. But this? This was like finding a diamond buried in a riverbed. 'They seriously need to nerf my Lucky Guy skill...'

But then a thought struck him. Delia had found the egg. Maybe… maybe it wasn't his to raise.

He lowered his gaze to the woman now kneeling beside the massive Gyarados, gently stroking its scaly blue head.

"Don't worry, Gyarados," Delia whispered tenderly. "Your little egg is gonna be alright… Rael is gonna take care of it."

Wait— Rael's mind whirled. 'Does that mean the egg is mine?!'

Rael was about to celebrate when he noticed something: the Gyarados was awake!

Rael's instincts kicked in the moment he saw Gyarados stirring. He gently, but firmly, grabbed Delia by the wrist and pulled her back, positioning himself between her and the massive creature.

"Stay behind me," he said quickly.

But the Gyarados didn't attack. It didn't roar. It didn't even flare its fins.

It rose slowly, the rippling surface of the water sliding off its long, scaly body. Its crimson eyes—once blazing with fury—now looked calm. Observing. It gazed at Delia and the egg in Rael's hands. Its posture was regal, protective… and strangely peaceful.

Rael narrowed his eyes, stepping forward cautiously. "It's not hostile," he muttered. "I think… it just wants to talk."

"Are you insane?!" Daisy shouted from behind, voice sharp with panic. "That's a Gyarados! You think it wants to talk?!"

Rael glanced back, giving her a confident grin. Riolu was still on his shoulder, tugging playfully at his hair, and the egg was cradled carefully in his arms. "Relax. Gyarados just wants to make sure we're not a threat."

Delia hesitated—then stepped forward too, standing just behind Rael. "Gyarados…" she said softly, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and wonder.

The great Water-type shifted its gaze to her.

Delia swallowed. "You… you were only trying to protect your egg. I get it now."

There was a flicker in Gyarados' eyes. It lowered its head, inch by inch, until it was eye level with her.

The moment stretched on.

Delia bit her lip nervously, then took a small step forward. Her cheeks flushed pink as she gently reached out and stroked the side of its head. The Gyarados let her. Its massive eyes slowly closed under her touch.

A tender silence settled between them.

And then Delia did something no one expected.

"Gyarados…" she said, blushing slightly, "Do you… maybe wanna become my first Pokémon?"

"Eh?!" Daisy's jaw dropped.

Misty's eyes widened.

Even Riolu stopped playing with Rael's hair, frozen mid-pull.

And Gyarados?

It blinked.

To be continued...

How was this chapter? Liked it?

Liked Pidgeotto custom transformation?

Also, if some of you can create a version like that of Pidgeot, I would appreciate it. I tried it but AI just didn't wanna collaborate.
