Chapter 35 - CHAPTER 35

Without a moment's hesitation, Uchiha Obito roared in his heart as his translucent soul body sharply turned away, fleeing from Uchiha Yue.

Although he had chosen death willingly, surrendering his life to avoid further destruction, he had never planned to let even his soul perish.

And now, having crossed into death, he had finally glimpsed the shadow that lingered forever in his dreams—her.

Even if he no longer deserved to stand by her side, even if he had soiled his name beyond redemption, simply watching her from afar in the Pure Land brought him peace.

More than that, there was still hope he might meet sensei—Namikaze Minato—and Kushina Uzumaki. Maybe he could apologize. Maybe not be forgiven. But at least he wouldn't run away again.

In short, there were still things left unfinished. So no matter what, he refused to let his soul scatter and vanish into oblivion.

"Heh… You think you can run?"

Uchiha Yue's voice rang out calmly, almost with amusement. He wasn't surprised at all. With a light murmur, his illusory field bloomed with new force—his soul power fused with binding energy surged out and instantly engulfed Obito's fleeing form.

"Damn it… Kamui!"

Feeling that suffocating pressure again—one all too familiar—Obito's Mangekyō pulsed in reflex. The pupils of his spiritual form contracted sharply. He remembered that moment when Uchiha Yue had stripped his Mangekyō with this same suppressive force.

But now, as chakra swelled around him, something strange happened. His spiritual body, though dead, now bore eyes again—eyes glowing with restored Mangekyō energy.

No—more than restored. His Kamui felt… perfect. Sharper. Boundless.

"This…?"

Surprise widened his gaze. Obito felt a sudden surge of confidence. He didn't hesitate. His vast pupil power surged forward.

Hum…

The double Kamui spiraled from his eyes, twisting the space around him. The confinement field, once absolute, began to tremble and crack.

"I can feel it… an opening!"

"Tch. So even in soul form, the twin Kamui is still this troublesome?"

Uchiha Yue narrowed his eyes. For once, his smile faded into something more solemn.

He hadn't anticipated this development.

Yes, in the original records, Obito had done the impossible—returning from the Pure Land to give Kakashi his Sharingan and join the battle against Kaguya.

Back then, Obito was the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki. His spiritual power had been bolstered to a divine level. But Yue hadn't accounted for this: even in this illusion-based spiritual realm, Obito's Mangekyō seemed to be functioning at that transcendent level.

And this world of his—while vast and intricate—was still just an extension of his own consciousness. It was nowhere near as distant as the actual gap between the Pure Land and the physical realm.

"But still…" Yue muttered as spatial warps surged in the distance. "Even if Kamui is powerful, you're still just a soul. Let's see if you can really tear through my world."

With a flare of chakra, Yue's pupils ignited with dark light, and space shattered once more—pulling Obito fully into his Genjutsu Realm.

"W-what is this…?"

The scene shifted in an instant. Obito's ethereal body shuddered. His eyes widened in alarm.

Because—this wasn't the same illusionary field as before. This place was utterly alien. And the faint pull of the Pure Land he'd felt earlier? It was gone.

As if it had never existed.

Or worse—as if this was now the Pure Land.

Yet paradoxically, here in this new realm, Obito's soul no longer felt weightless. His form was becoming tangible again. His senses sharpened, and his chakra no longer felt like mist—it felt grounded, like flesh and blood.

"This… This isn't just an illusion…"

"Welcome to my world, Uchiha Obito."

Yue's voice echoed, calm and composed. "From now on, I'll be taking care of you."

Obito's face twisted as his eyes snapped toward the voice. Recognition lit his features—followed by a surge of Mangekyō chakra.

Kamui!

He attempted escape instantly, his Kamui spinning faster than ever.

But the same suppressive force—now even heavier than before—descended once more. His chakra short-circuited. The space around him rippled and froze.

"No… no way!"

Obito's expression contorted in disbelief. He couldn't move.

That same oppressive power. It was stronger than what Yue had used before.

"What are you trying to do, Yue? I'm already dead—I can't threaten you anymore! Why won't you let me go?"

Desperation cracked his voice. Rage and fear flooded his eyes.

He had already died. But this—this second death? A soul destroyed completely?

He couldn't accept that.

"Relax." Yue's figure finally materialized, his Mangekyō glowing with still greater intensity. "I'm not going to destroy your soul completely. That's far too cruel. Even I won't cross that line."

"No, all I want…" Yue continued with a strange gleam in his eye, "…is to extract the power residing within your soul. I've been developing a theory. A very interesting one."

So that was it. Yue didn't want revenge. He wanted research material.

A shiver ran through Obito's core. He had thought death would be his end. But now…

"Damn it! You think stripping my soul of its power isn't cruel!? That's worse than death!"

"I won't let you!"

But his roars meant nothing. Yue's next command sealed his fate.

With a flicker of his eye, Obito's body locked up. His soul was frozen completely. He could no longer speak, no longer resist.

He was left staring forward—his Kamui inert, his chakra crushed.

"I'll admit," Yue said softly, "you're troublesome—even in death. But I'll make sure this ends my way."
