Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Unconcerning Itch

Rising from the depths, Sunny felt his consciousness return.

Lifting his face to meet Emilias, he immediately noticed a disturbed look of concern resting upon her face.

'Wait, why am I looking up?'

Taking a glimpse at himself, he soon became equally distraught.

He was on his hands and knees, covered in blood—his own blood—somehow. Sections of his arms, neck, and face had been scratched quite aggressively.

'When did I get these scratches?'

...Had he done this to himself? It's the only answer that makes sense, and it's concerning that he does not clearly remember hurting himself.

But there are more pressing matters. It's time to throw everything at Elsa and Meili, over and over again, however many times it will take to satisfy his wrath.

'How am I going to explain this one? Should I even bother? I don't owe them any explanation.'

"Emilia, Puck, listen close. Your insignia was stolen by a thief, who was contracted by an assassin."

"—What!?"

Both of them shared the same reaction, which was to be expected. Although Sunny is positive that the cat will begin interrogating him soon enough. Matter of fact, Puck looks downright menacing at the moment.

So, he needs to get ahead of them.

"We need to find your maid, Ram, then we'll talk. We don't have much time, let's go."

As soon as he finished speaking, he ditched the cat-daughter duo and sprinted towards the market street, assuming they would follow.

Of course they will, and they do; Who wouldn't?

The two bombarded him with questions at every turn, and he ignored them; it was almost becoming a habit, but he was preoccupied with his own thoughts at the moment.

Luckily, after his inexplicable conniption earlier, they got to the market street at roughly the same time as before, and after a little searching, found Ram near the same mana-stone stall.

The rude maid had not changed a bit. The face she made upon the sight of Sunny sprinting at her while being chased by her Lady was quite good. Until she pulled out a wand, of course.

He didn't know what it did, but it probably wasn't good. At least, not when it's aimed at him. And so, he peacefully surrendered. There was no need to get killed by a maid, of all things.

"Explain yourself. No, rather, Lady Emilia, please tell me what is happening?"

'Wait, she can be respectable?'

"Actually, no. It's better if I explain.

—SO! As I told Emilia, I will tell you. Emilia's insignia has been stolen by a thief, who was contracted by an assassin, who was contracted to kill everyone involved."

It was a bold strategy. To be so straightforward was not Sunny's style. So far, he had been lying constantly. Who could blame him? —But there was reason to it.

If he's going to bang his head against a wall until he got what he wanted, why bother hiding? It's not like they'll remember any of his failed loops. And when he eventually succeeds, he'll be waking up anyway, so subtlety has become the least of his concerns.

"How do you know all this! Talk. Now."

"Ha! You must be a fool. Who is to say you are not an assassin yourself?"

"Um, can you please explain what is happening? I'm not sure I follow what you're saying."

Sunny licks his lips—

"I'll tell you why you can trust my word. I reeeaaallly want to kill your assassins—Elsa and Meili Granhiert—and I promise ...I will kill them."
