Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 - Haruno vs. the Robot Octopus: Collision Course with Fate

"Well, this is your job as members of the club. I'll head back to the infirmary," Ryouko said nonchalantly, already halfway out the door. Clearly, she had no intention of helping with the cleanup. Maybe it was intuition—or just survival instincts—but she seemed to sense the potential danger of Lala's latest invention and wisely made her exit.

Left behind, Haruno stared warily at the mechanical contraption now rolling across the room. It was Lala's so-called "cleaning robot," an octopus-like device with multiple flexible arms and suction appendages, busy dusting, sweeping, and rearranging furniture at an alarming pace. The tentacles moved with fluid precision, and for a moment, everything seemed to be going… suspiciously well.

"What is this thing?" Yui asked, visibly bewildered, her eyes glued to the animated gadget. She had never seen anything like it—and certainly not in a normal high school.

"Hehehe, amazing, right?" Lala beamed, clearly expecting praise.

"It's… interesting," Haruno said carefully, though his attention was already drifting to other ideas. He'd seen enough anime and read enough manga to know that anything with this many tentacles and "cleaning functions" rarely ended innocently. Still, another part of him was fascinated—especially by the potential applications.

"You know, if we modified the arms and scaled it down... this could work as a combat suit add-on," he muttered, watching one of the tentacles dexterously stack books.

"Eh? Combat suit?" Lala tilted her head, intrigued.

"Yeah—kind of like Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2. Just four mechanical arms, designed for mobility, strength, maybe even weapon compatibility," Haruno explained, gesturing with enthusiasm.

"Ooh… I like that!" Lala's eyes sparkled with inspiration as she pulled out a notepad. "I'll start sketching!"

Haruno couldn't help but smirk. This club was already delivering more than he expected.

As Haruno and Lala continued chatting casually about potential suit upgrades, Yui's eyes stayed locked on the cleaning robot. At first, the invention had seemed impressive—efficient, even graceful—as it glided around the room with its eight mechanical tentacles, sweeping dust and organizing supplies at high speed. But gradually, its movements began to shift from efficient to erratic. It was speeding up, and the way its limbs curled and twitched looked far too… intentional.

"Hey… isn't it starting to move faster? And weirder…?" Yui said cautiously, backing a step away from the machine.

"Hm?" Haruno and Lala both turned toward her, just in time to see one of the tentacles twitch in Yui's direction with an almost mischievous glint in its mechanical eye.

Before anyone could react, the robot lunged forward—not aggressively, but with unsettling precision—and one of its tentacles looped under Yui's skirt, flipping it up in a single fluid motion.

"Kyahh!! W-What the hell?! Stop that!" Yui shrieked, frantically trying to push her skirt down. Unfortunately, the robot had no concept of privacy, nor shame. Her cute white panties with pink polka dots were now fully exposed to the room.

"Cleaning—cleaning—cleaning," the machine chanted in its robotic voice, entirely ignoring Yui's protests.

Haruno's eyes reflexively widened for a split second at the sudden, unexpected fanservice, before quickly shutting them tight in a show of self-control. He pinched his nose, already feeling a dangerous pressure creeping up it. "W-We didn't even trigger a flag this time…"

"Er… wait a second…" Lala muttered, frowning thoughtfully. "I think I forgot to install the safety limiter. Or maybe the override command...?"

"YOU THINK?!" Yui cried, now lifted into the air as two more tentacles wrapped around her arms and legs, spreading her out like some kind of tragic anime heroine caught in an ecchi trap.

"I-I'll fix it! Hold on!" Lala scrambled for a remote, digging through her pockets in a panic.

Meanwhile, Haruno turned around and muttered, "This… this is exactly what I expected from a To-Love-Ru plot device…"

And thus, the cleaning robot did what it was created to do: create chaos in the name of cleanliness.

"Sorry, but I don't think I can stop it… Wait a moment…!" Lala cried out, her voice a mix of panic and excitement. Without hesitation, she lunged at the rogue cleaning robot, intending to forcibly disable it. But the robot, sensing a threat, reacted immediately—tentacles sprang out to intercept her. Unfortunately for the machine, this was Lala we're talking about.

The moment the metallic limbs wrapped around her, she casually tore through them like tissue paper, her alien strength making short work of its restraints. With determination in her eyes, she advanced. "Okay, now hold still so I can shut you down properly!"

The robot, recognizing its impending doom, suddenly flared to life with flashing lights and blaring sirens. "Danger—danger—intruder detected! Run away—run away!" it chirped in an increasingly frantic robotic tone before it floated up, dodging Lala's grasp, and darted toward the window.

"Wait! Get back here!" Lala shouted, reaching out, but the robot zipped through the open window like a UFO escaping Earth's atmosphere.

"Ah! Help!" Yui cried out as the tentacles still wrapped around her arms and legs hoisted her along with it. Her panicked scream echoed through the room—and straight into Haruno's ears.

Almost instinctively, Haruno moved. Something in his mind snapped into action—maybe it was adrenaline, or maybe the power of love already imprinted in his genes finally activated. Either way, he dashed forward with an impressive burst of speed, grabbing onto one of the tentacles holding Yui just as the robot shot outside.

He clung to it with all his might, but strength wasn't his forte. The robot continued its escape, dragging both of them out the window from the second floor.

"Ugh, I failed… Sorry, Yui," Haruno muttered as he quickly assessed the situation. In that moment of midair crisis, he did what any sane man would do—he clung tightly to the nearest soft, safe object: Yui.

His arms wrapped around her waist, his legs instinctively locked around her hips, and their cheeks pressed together in an awkward, blushing mess as gravity pulled them down.

"H-Hauuuu—this is so shamelesssss!" Yui squealed.

"I'm sorry! But this is really scary!" Haruno replied.

They landed with a thud—but safely—leaving Yui red-faced and flustered as Haruno struggled to untangle them without causing… further accidents.

"Wait a moment," Haruno muttered, tightening his grip as he clung to Yui's soft, trembling body. The warmth of her skin, the subtle scent of her shampoo—it was all surprisingly stimulating, even in such a high-stakes moment. His heartbeat quickened, not from fear, but from something stranger… deeper. 'Ugh, I thought I'd get a nosebleed… but this isn't that. This… this feels like a power surge?'

"I'm sorry, Yui," he said, voice calm but urgent. "But I need your help… to get us out of this."

"Eh? Really? Okay, then…" she replied hesitantly, trying to hold herself together.

"Good. I'm going to kiss you."

"E-Eh!? But that's… Hau… Fine," she whispered, cheeks flushing. She didn't fully understand why—but if it was Haruno, she wanted to trust him.

Without delay, Haruno pressed his lips to hers. Her warmth passed into him, a soft surge of energy flowing between them. But it wasn't enough. Not yet. Acting on instinct, he deepened the kiss—his tongue brushed hers, causing Yui's body to stiffen. Her eyes widened in shock, heart pounding as her first kiss transformed into something far beyond what she'd ever imagined. Her thoughts scrambled. 'I thought… only Ryouko-sensei would… but Haruno's…'

"Hyaaah…" she whimpered, overwhelmed.

Then it happened. A rush of power exploded inside Haruno, burning through him like fire. With a newfound strength, he grabbed one of the tentacles and crushed it with ease. As Yui's body lost balance from the release, Haruno—now fully energized—acted without hesitation. He shifted his grip, launched into the air, and delivered a spinning kick that shattered the remaining tentacles like brittle plastic.

Yui dropped from the robot's grip—but Haruno was already there.

He caught her midair, holding her tight as they hit the ground. He rolled instinctively to absorb the impact, landing on his back with her safely in his arms.

"This power... is amazing. As always," he muttered, breathing hard but grinning slightly, his arms still wrapped protectively around Yui—who was now bright red and completely speechless.

"Thank you," Yui whispered, finally gathering the courage to pull herself from Haruno's protective embrace. Her cheeks were still burning, and as their eyes met, an awkward silence lingered between them—until the tension shattered with a sudden mechanical voice.

Danger—danger—danger—

The octopus robot's alert echoed across the campus once more as it whirred back toward the school's tennis courts, where several students were still practicing, unaware of the incoming chaos. Haruno's body tensed. Though his strength had waned, his sense of responsibility hadn't.

"I'll finish this," he said with a determined breath, before launching forward in a final burst of speed.

With every remaining ounce of energy, Haruno hurled himself toward the rampaging machine. He landed a crushing blow—so powerful it shook the air. The robot reeled, let out a warped Danger! one last time, and exploded in a flash of light and smoke.

But in the aftermath, Haruno was spent. His reflexes dulled, his body exhausted, and before he could regain balance, fate intervened once again.

He stumbled… and crashed directly into someone.

Thud!

The world tilted. He fell atop a soft, warm body, his hands landing instinctively on something… very soft. At the same moment, his lips pressed against hers in a completely accidental but unmistakable kiss.

"Ah—!" both of them gasped.

Haruno's eyes slowly opened… and met hers.

Short blue hair. Wide, shocked eyes. A familiar, gentle face.

"Haruna…?"

Of all people, it had to be her. The girl he'd once longed for. The girl he wished for. And now, in the strangest twist of fate, he was lying atop her, caught in a scandalously cliché scene pulled straight out of a romcom.

Somewhere in the sky, destiny was clearly laughing.
