Chapter 5 - First Day of Classes (Chapter 5)

The sun shined brightly as it fell down upon the Crimson Dormitory.

Xavier woke up and shielded his eyes from the sun. He quickly got out of bed.

He went into the dormitory's boys' bathroom and got ready for the day. It felt weird being in the college-type environment again. Living with others certainly made one feel less lonely, but at the same time, it had many cons that come with it.

Once he was finished brushing his teeth, adjusting his hair, and fixing his robes, he wanted out of the boys' side of the dorm and walked down the staircase with purposeful steps. Arlen was waiting for him at the base of the staircase.

"Good morning!" Arlen said as he waved to Xavier, who waved slowly back.

It was just Xavier's luck that Arlen and he shared the same first-period class. The class being Defensive Arts, which was exactly what Xavier felt like he needed. He wanted to learn how to defend himself against sleepiness.

Soon they found themselves in the classroom.

Xavier got his luck, as it seemed as if all his classes were just syllabus day. Boring? Yes. Requiring hard work? No. It balanced out for Xavier. After first period was over, Arlen waved goodbye to Xavier. They both had free periods around lunchtime, so they agreed to meet up then.

Xavier then headed to his other classes. In no particular order, they are: Offensive Arts, Aether History, Aether Research, Home Education. The first class mentioned teaches students how to use Aether offensively. Aether History teaches students how Aether was used throughout history. The research class teaches future methods of improving Aether technology.

Home Education was about how to use Aether to improve everyday life.

This class actually appealed to Xavier, and it was the first class that Xavier wasn't prepared for despite having the knowledge of a Primordial mage. It wasn't anything magic-related he wasn't prepared for, it was a girl.

Yes. It seems stupid, but it was true.

Xavier, the almighty infamous mage, was no exception to the power of love.

The professor was talking, but Xavier couldn't help but steal glances at the girl across the room. Katy Bellington. That was her name. She was the lover who was always loyal to Xavier, even in his previous life. They met at Aetherion Arcana Institute, just like how in this timeline he is seeing her again.

He never knew what she saw inside of himself. Xavier knew how messed up he used to be. He just wondered if she would feel the same way even in these circumstances manipulated by whatever gods of this world.

Katy noticed for a moment Xavier looking at her.

He smoothly looked away as he focused his gaze on the professor while trying not to look fazed. He used to strike fear into millions of people, cause chaos for everybody he found immoral, use his rare powers to get what he wanted, and yet one look from her did something to him.

Home Education soon was over, and Xavier decided it wasn't the right time to talk to her.

Arlen and Xavier met up for lunch in one of the dining rooms.

"How did your classes go so far?" Arlen asked while he took a sip of water.

"They went alright, what about you?" Xavier replied back as he took a bite of food.

"They went alright as well. Syllabus day is kinda boring. I can't wait to get into the action!"

Xavier nodded in response.

They kept the small talk going for the rest of lunch, not talking about anything important in particular. Xavier had too many other important things on his mind. He really did care for his friend Arlen, but he needed to gain a full understanding of everything around him first.

Lunch ended, and they both headed to the same class together.

Arlen and Xavier both shared their first class together and their last class after lunch.

This class was Aether History, which immediately put Xavier to sleep.

He already knew everything there was to know about Aether History, and his body was starting to give up. Xavier cursed under his breath. He didn't like how his new body limited his abilities. He would have to test that out shortly.

Arlen woke Xavier up as class ended.

They were both free for the day now.

"What are you gonna do now?" Arlen asked him.

"I am going to check up on the library. What about you?" Xavier asked back.

"I am going to practice at one of the training areas," Arlen smiled.

"Nice! I'll see you around then," Xavier replied back as he made his way to the library.

The library was huge. It was exactly the same as Xavier remembered it. Grand. Neat. Three-story. Students were milling around as they looked for books. Some students read on some couches. Others were studying at the desks.

Xavier made his way around the various bookshelves. He went to specific locations and gathered some books that he got from his previous life. In addition, he grabbed some books related to Aether Research. Let's see if I can find anything that can help explain this, he thought to himself as he checked the books out.

Xavier was smart. In fact, he was the most knowledgeable mage in existence when it came to Aether and how it is connected to everything. Though he didn't know what caused him to travel back into time in a new body. Time magic was something still very hard to grasp fully, even to him.

Once his books were checked out, he made his way back to the Crimson Dormitory. He grabbed a notepad and pen. He then sat down in his usual chair by the fireplace and got to work on reading. Every now and then, he would stop and write something down on the notepad. A couple of hours went by, and Arlen came into the dorm and sat down next to Xavier.

"What are you reading and researching?"

Xavier decided to give half a lie.

"I am researching some things on Time Magic that our professor for Aether History wanted me to do. I actually was able to afford this university, not just because I am the son of an Earl, but also because I am an assistant researcher."

"That's so cool!" Arlen said to him.

After a few minutes of small talk, Arlen left Xavier to his studies.

A few hours flew by, and Xavier was once again left alone in the dark common room.

He shut his books in frustration.

Figuring out Time Magic was more than he could handle at the moment.
