The blanket covered them up to her shoulders while his other arm was protectively wrapped around her waist, holding her close.
Their eyes turned to the door as it opened wider.
Standing there were Lu Zi Zhen and Lu Ting Cheng, both pausing mid-step as they took in the sight before them.
For a moment, no one spoke.
Lu Ting Cheng was the first to break the silence. He raised a brow, his lips twitching into a mischievous grin as he leaned against the doorframe, "Well, this is… cozy."
Wan Ruyi blinked rapidly, caught off guard, her cheeks flushing pink as she shifted slightly in Zhi Hao's embrace. "Ting Cheng… Zi Zhen… you are here. How was your night?"
Zi Zhen's gaze flickered briefly from his mother to his father. His expression was mostly impassive, but there was a flicker of relief in his dark eyes seeing his mother leaning safely in Zhi Hao's arms.
"Good!"
Lu Zhi Hao didn't bother to adjust his position. He simply tightened his arm around Ruyi's shoulders, his eyes locking onto his sons with calm authority. "You two, you better knock next time."
"We did knock," Ting Cheng replied lightly, his grin widening, "But I guess you were too… occupied to hear it." He could see his mother's red lips. They have been really busy!
Wan Ruyi shot him a half-hearted glare, her blush deepening as she attempted to sit up straighter, only for Zhi Hao to gently pull her back against his chest, "Don't move too much, don't forget what the doctor said..." he murmured, ignoring Ting Cheng entirely.
Zi Zhen stepped forward slightly, his gaze softening as he observed his mother's pale face, no longer teasing her, "We came to check on you, Mother. How are you feeling?" He slightly panicked hearing the doctor was around.
Her eyes shimmered with warmth despite her embarrassment, "Better… Dr. Sophie was here earlier on and she said I just need some rest, nothing serious to be worried about."
"Good." Zi Zhen's gaze shifted briefly to his father, then back to his mother, "We will make sure you are not disturbed today. Get enough rest..." He calmed down hearing it wasn't a serious situation.
"Thank you, Ah-Zhen." Her voice was quiet, touched by his care.
Meanwhile, Ting Cheng moved from the doorway, walking further into the room with a teasing glint in his eyes, "You know, Dad, you could at least pretend to be embarrassed and try to exercise restraint."
Zhi Hao turned his gaze towards his older son, his face completely stoic, "Why should I be embarrassed to comfort my wife in my own house? You are the one who should be embarrassed for barging in like that."
Ting Cheng laughed under his breath, shaking his head, "Fair enough. Just… keep it PG while we are around, yeah? And it's daytime for God's sake!"
Wan Ruyi let out a quiet, mortified sigh, burying her flushed face into Zhi Hao's chest, "Please, just… go get your lunch." They couldn't explain themselves; if they did, the kids would only be worried, or they would end up looking guilty of something they hadn't done if they tried to explain themselves. Such an awkward position.
Zi Zhen's lips twitched faintly at his brother's antics. He gave his mother a final respectful nod before turning towards the door, "We will send someone with warm tea. So, mind your actions!"
"Don't worry about us," Ting Cheng added, flashing a final teasing grin as he followed Zi Zhen out, "We will leave you two lovebirds alone."
As the door clicked shut behind them, the room fell silent again. Wan Ruyi let out a small huff, embarrassed yet comforted by their children's presence.
