"So at Level zero i can make two deals and have three options for it, Also i need to allocate supplies for the my summons and I can also only summon workers at this time. Before any thing else I suppose i need to make at least one deal first." I muttered to myself. My thoughts were that it would be easer to deal with one race at a time ensuring loyalty.
"Elves are a no based on story and legend they are long lived if im lucky they will treat me like a naive child. If I'm unlucky they will treat me as a pawn to be used. Humans are also a no go at this point I know my own race well and right now i don't have enough benefits to ensure cooperation. That leaves the Dwarves from what i read they keep their word and hold honor in a high degree. Yes, they get angry easily and drink a lot and if legends were true could hold a grudge. But I'm betting they will honor their word I just have to prove i can honor mine." I thought. Also I had a particular fondness for dwarves in games and novels they reminded me of my army buddies.
"Just less drunk" I said as i chuckled at the thought of Army soldiers challenging Dwarves to a drinking contest. Also i was close to a mountain and although i couldn't see any water with the green grass and trees near by made me believe that water was nearby.
'I should probably take stock of where I'm at and what is around me.' I thought as i unpacked and repacked my small backpack it came with
- 1 bag of jerky
- 1 bag of dry fruit
- 1 stone knife
- 1 coil of rope unknown how many feet
- 1 Bedroll
Even with all that stuff i still had room for anything small I came across. I looked at Solaris and Luna as I put on my pack and picked up my spear. They had been sitting in the same spot for what must have been at least a half-hour. I thanked the system i got trained dogs and as i stood there wondering how to order them knowledge seemed to just enter my mind. I gave a short whistle and both stood wagging their tails in eagerness.
"Okay Lets go see what's around this mountain!" I said excitedly and gave two short whistles at which the Solaris went ahead a bit and Luna went behind me as we started circling the mountain. As we walked around the mountain we saw a variety of bushes and trees. I stopped the dogs on four different occasions from chasing what looked like a deer, two rabbits, a porcupine, and what looked like goat. The deer and rabbits i noticed had been out toward the grasslands while porcupine and goat were up the mountain in the trees. As the hours passed I noticed the sun had gone from low in the east to pass into noon. I was tired and sweating i had not walked this far in a long time. I had received various system messages about my Dex going up by 1 followed by my Con. I also received 2 lvls in survival for hiking in the wild and apparently not dying. So I was tired, I was sweaty and I was thirsty. That's when I realized I had not received water of any kind or a way to boil it.
"Shit!" I cursed as i stopped walking to take in my surroundings more closely. Not much had changed as me and the dogs circled the mountain. Trees stood farther up the mountain then gave way to grass and the ground flattened out to a sprawling grassland as i heard a water babbling over rocks nearby.
"Wait water!" I yelled and started walking faster letting my need for water drive me forward. In front of us was a bend in the mountain created by an old rock slide. You could tell it was old due to the moss and growth around the rocks. The dogs followed along after me wagging their tails all the way. As we came around the bend though the hair on the back of the dogs stood up.Their tails went between their legs and they started growling. I slowed down as I noticed this and grasped my spear in both hands and looked around as i came around the rocks in the other side of the rocks.
I saw a small stream coming down a gentle slope of the mountain. To the side of the stream was what looked like a worn dirt path. That lead to cave with poles in the ground and on top of the bones were animal skulls. Also some black banners that were dirty and covered in red hand prints. I let the dogs drink from the water before i took a few sips to quench my thirst. I knew i was taking a chance drinking it unfiltered but I was hoping the system had changed my body enough to help.
I looked at the cave if it was inhabited then there could be any number of creatures in there. I needed to think about this and decide on what I needed to do. Option one was negotiate with dwarves as is but i would be coming from a position of weakness. I was low level and out of shape and had a cave that needed to be fought over. Option two was for me to fight my way through the cave and hope I could level up fast enough to offset any number advantage whatever creature living in the cave had. So if I conquered the cave I would have already a shelter for me and the dwarves to work out of. I sighed option two was looking like the most likely option.
Though I also had my two companions with me and with my spear I would have reach on most creatures. I whistled for my fury companions and they followed me as we walked up to the mouth of the cave.
"One small step for man. One giant leap for stupidity." I mumbled as I tightened the strap for my bag and held my spear tightly in my hands. I stepped forward into the unknown.
