Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Ramifications

Nasuverse, London, Clock Tower.

Chaos had erupted in the Clock Tower after the head of the El-melloi family had disappeared in the middle of a meeting between the Lords.

The event shocked everyone since Lord El-melloi, Reines El-melloi - Barthomeloi, the woman who was said to carry the child of the missing James Barthomeloi, the infamous "Mad White", disappeared.

Much like James, she had disappeared without any warning but unlike James, she disappeared right before an ensemble of lords. Not only was the Lord's presence powerful, even the Lord who rarely appeared in meetings, the Queen, Lorelei Barthomeloi was present.

Yet, even she did not notice anything before it happened.

Not a trace of magecraft was found, yet it was obvious that some sort of spatial magecraft was involved. What's more, although lacking any traces, the power that made Reines disappear had a striking resemblance to a spell that was recently showcased.

James Barthomeloi's spatial magecraft-

That was the spell that closely resembled the magecraft that was used to take Reines away.

Immediately, without any warning, Lorelei had mobilized all her forces, personally taking the lead as an investigation was initiated.

The students of James Barthomeloi who knew of the space magecraft were quickly interrogated but none of them were the culprits.

Lorelei found herself staring at a possibility that she never thought could ever occur, one that she never believed would happen, not in a millenia, yet-

"WHY IS IT HER?!"

"Is it true? The child in her womb… is it the Professor's?"

"What about me…"

"Did the Professor forget about me?"

The former students of James Barthomeloi were all devastated upon learning of the matter.

Not because Reines disappeared but because of the implications of her disappearance.

"Call for Waver"

Lorelei commanded her knight as she left the former students of her "dear cousin".

Meanwhile, in the department of modern magecraft, Waver Velvet, one of James most "talented" students. A man whose understanding and mastery of magecraft could not be trumped by anyone other than James.

An anomaly who could break through any magecraft- if he had the ability to, was now staring at a report that had recently arrived on his desk.

"That bastard…"

Waver removed his glasses, massaging his eyes as he contemplated the implications of the various events.

Moreover-

"Flat, did you tell anyone about this?"

Letting out a soft sigh, Waver turned towards the man fiddling around with a few trinkets on the coffee table. Despite being quite old, the man still acted as if he was a teen. His demeanor being a mix of childish innocence and cunning.

"Nope~ I knew it was the great Mad Dragon's powers at work. The ley lines went silent, the spiritual tomb of albion went crazy and yet, none of the Lords noticed a thing. Also! It was less an "attempt" and more a "true invasion", the subtle way it interfered with the "World" is proof enough. I tried to trace it but it's like… the power did not come from this- reality… I dunno, it's really weird, unlike the "foreign" nature that Lord White's spell usually have, this one had a different kind of "foreign" to it…"

Flat, explaining his findings did not even look at Waver as he continued tinkering with the items on the table.

The items on the table formed two orbs, Flat stopped his actions, his gaze turning towards Waver as he presented the two orbs.

"Sir, I think this matter involves isekai, you know, the recently popular plot used in eastern fantasy"

As he spoke, the two orbs glowed, then, from one of the orbs, a "channel" was formed which struck the other orb.

The orb that was struck formed a barrier but this did not do much as the channel pierced through it.

"I think Lord White was transported to another world and he created a spell that allows the creation of a spatial channel, connecting this world and the one which he's currently on"

Waver did not dismiss the thought of Flat as he pondered quietly.

A flash of realization appeared behind his cloudy eyes as he then asked.

"But- if he created a complete spell, why would he summon something instead of taking the channel back?"

Waver asked, and Flat responded with a smile as he said-

"You know Lord White better than I do Teach"

The two exchanged silent looks before Flat fixed up his tools.

"That said, I wonder what kind of world Lord White found himself in"

Flat muttered off to the air as he fixed his things, Waver, hearing his mutterings shook his head as he chimed in-

"He'd probably establish a mage association in that world, build a Clock Tower, Atlas Institute and Wandering Sea, then take the role which the Old Man usually carried and play a game of "mastermind", he's the type to create his own mystery. A madman who doesn't care what methods he'd use… he's probably creating a Holy Grail War as we speak… now that I think about it- he probably planned to summon an Einzbern, but something went wrong and he summoned Reines instead… moreover, since another summoning had not been initiated may mean that there are limits to this spell"

Waver spoke as if he was trying to come up with an explanation but- for some reason, his words sounded like they were not "possibilities" but the "truth".

The atmosphere was solemn and heavy, especially with Waver's revelation, this made the man, Flat, instinctively blurt out-

"You really are Lord White's greatest student! The Legendary London Shining Star!"

*SNAP*

"HAHAHAHAHA! Come on teach~ Its just a joke, a joke!"

Waving his hands in front of him, Flat quickly spoke as he saw Waver at the brink of exploding.

Although Waver was not that powerful of a magus, his knowledge allowed him to do a lot of crazy things.

Not to mention-

'I wonder what that pen in his hand does…'

Flat stared at the black pen in the hands of Waver, it looked normal but he could feel it's mystery.

'Probably another "treasure" awarded to him by Lord White"

It's not a secret that Waver had received countless "rewards" from James Barthomeloi.

This led to many crazy women to draw up some rather… "interesting" stories, but Flat and the students of the Barthomeloi class and Waver's own students knew the purpose of those "treasures".

Few people could reach the same level of knowledge and understanding of Magecraft as James. It was known that the majority of the geniuses in the Barthomeloi class could barely reach 20% of James' knowledge and ability.

Moreover, the most frustrating thing to his students was the fact that James had a knack for rapidly learning and improving magecraft.

Majority of the students under James Barthomeloi came from famous magus families, with histories that spanned hundreds, even thousands of years!

But all these students had their magecraft, their magic crest seen through and replicated. If that were not enough, James had created "improved" versions of these magic crests and magecraft.

There was a time when various Lord's tried to shove their descendants into James' class, they did not really care if said descendant would become another monster, what they wished to see was the magic crest and magecraft of their families improved.

Of course, James saw through these acts and simply did what they wanted him to do without having any of their descendants in his class…

In a way, James improved the magic crests and magecraft of various families but blocked their access to it.

This had caused a commotion and chaos for a time but none could take any action against James… he was after all… quite a frightening magus.

Of course, this conflict was not limited to James, some rather… heinous individuals thought that if they could not touch James, then his students were easy pickings.

Unfortunately, most of his students and those connected to them were all important individuals OR they had abilities that made them quite… challenging to target.

Of course, there was one exception-

Waver Velvet-

The "top student" of James Barthomeloi's class, also a nobody whose practical ability was rather… lacking.

'The treasures were all for his protection and also a deterrent..'

Flat did not know how many treasures were on Waver's person but the man was quite frightening.

His aura was not something many magi could replicate, mostly because he always carried various treasures.

There was once a tale of a curse master using a powerful curse that took a whole year and countless lives to cast.

Targeting Waver Velvet, the curse should have taken the London Star's life but-

All that happened that day was Waver stumbling on air, but the curse master… his ritual had been reflected and all that was left of him was a large empty crater…

That and a few other crazy events had made the name Waver Velvet just as scary as all the other people connected to James Barthomeloi.

Some even said that attacking the Einzbern or Tohsaka in the east would be easier than slapping Waver Velvet.

Any of the choices would lead to death but the former would protect one's own reputation while the latter turned one into a joke.

"Just go"

Waver let out a sigh, he should have been used to Flat's antics but-

For some reason he would always get annoyed whenever the kid talks.

No-

Maybe it was because Flat was already an adult? A grown up who acted like he was still a child-

'A manchild…'

Waver signed internally as he watched his student leave.

'How come all the students connected to James Barthomeloi… '

He wanted to curse but as he thought about it, he himself was one of the "problem children".

Was it him? Or was it the influence of James?

Waver did not want to think about it, the more he thought about it, the greater his frustration became.

'At least… I'm not like those idiots'

He tried to calm himself, but when he thought about it, he felt a shiver run down his spine-

"So, another world huh?"

A familiar voice echoed behind him, Waver was not the type of feel fear, especially after James had given him an arsenal of "treasures" but-

¡|!(0∆0)!|¡

The source of the voice, the calm voice that echoed behind him was another matter altogether-

"Miss White…"

"Having the same title as that man… well, it's not that bad"

Waver did not dare to turn around, instead he kept his gaze straight at the door as he spoke.

"That was just a guess…" ╮ (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) ╭

"Since when did your "guess" fail?" 𓁹‿𓁹 HEH.

"..." (;'• - •`; )

Waver took in a deep breath, trying his best to steady his bearing before answering-

"Though my guesses never fail, they also rarely hit the mark" (◡ ‿ ◡ .)

"I see, so what hit and what missed?" (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)

"..." (𓌻‸𓌻) ᴜɢʜ.

Remaining silent, Waver did not reply, he had a good idea what was likely going to be correct and what was just random nonsense from his prior words.

But- he didn't dare say anything, after all, if any of his words did not "hit" the one to suffer was him! The last thing he wanted was for a descended deity to come after him.

"You don't need to worry, all I want to know is how you detected James' spell, I don't have the tools or ability to do that… though that Green rainbow bastard seems to have noticed it, he's likely going to pretend he didn't notice. The last thing that androgynous asshole would do is help me, so- oh so great London Star, would you share with me your method?" ( ^ ᴗ ^ )

"..."

Waver stayed silent but-

"The kid who just left, Flat Escardos, he has affinity for Ether as well as a monstrous talent for magecraft. He was able to notice the changes in the world's texture and through those noticed when and where James spell had been initiated"

Calmly, as if what he did was normal, Waver sold out his most talented student.

'Good luck Flat' (¬_¬")

"Well, I already understood that but all I needed was confirmation, whether the kid's ability was the truth or just a smokescreen that is~" (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)

Hearing the words of the woman, Waver felt his expression twitch but he repressed his reactions as his thoughts screamed-

'Fuck you' ╭∩╮( ^◡^)╭∩╮

But at that moment, a heavy pressure enveloped Waver-

"What was that?" ⋆✴︎˚。⋆ (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) ⋆✴︎˚。⋆

The woman's voice turned dark, lowering into a deep rumble as a suffocating pressure wrapped around Waver's neck-

"What was what?" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Feigning ignorance, Waver acted like nothing happened as he maintained a calm air staring forward.

"..." (눈_눈) "fine"

The pressure disappeared and the presence of the woman vanished with it yet Waver did not dare have any bad thoughts. He simply calmed his mind as he continued with the matters he had to handle.

After a while, Waver completed his tasks and let out a sigh as he massaged his temples-

"Haa~" "( – ⌓ – )
