Chapter 13 - 013. He said if kneeling is required, then kneel; why wasn’t she this obedient before?

Nan Chengzhi woke up before dawn, though in reality he hadn't really slept. In his drowsy state, a certain face kept appearing in his mind: eyes empty, gaunt and frail, not speaking, just looking at him with tears streaming down.

After lifting the covers, he didn't turn on the lights. Draping a robe over himself, he went downstairs. When he saw Nan Wan still kneeling on the floor, a trace of helplessness flashed in his eyes.

He thought, let her kneel if she wants. How come she never used to be this obedient?

He knew very well that she would never admit her mistakes.

After all is said and done, she carries his blood. No matter how much he disliked her, he couldn't bear to let her kneel like this indefinitely.

At four o'clock in the morning, the servants had not yet gotten up. In the spacious and bright living room, a person and a dog huddled together on the floor, appearing particularly desolate and lonely.

"Wanwan," Nan Chengzhi slowly leaned forward, squatting in front of Nan Wan, looking at her face, and said softly, "Now it's just the two of us, tell Dad the truth, what's really going on between you and Lu Li?"

Doing his best to play the role of a caring father, his voice was filled with concern for his daughter.

She casually got married, then ended up in a messy divorce. This wasn't like something she would do, but indeed, it was what she had done.

Nan Chengzhi knew that Nan Wan hated him, and he also knew he hadn't fulfilled his responsibilities as a father. But in the world, there are many things one is powerless to change. She was too young to understand his struggles.

Nan Wan lowered her eyes, her gaze fell on the floor, her expression indifferent.

Her voice was still hoarse, and as she spoke, her throat felt like it was being pierced by needles, tearing painfully, "It's exactly as you saw."

If she said it was to piss him off, she might well have been met with a slap.

One must know when to yield and when to persist. Last night was an act, and Jiang Xiaoman probably caused quite a fuss after going upstairs. He needed a few days of rest to calm his nerves. Otherwise, if something really did happen, it would be rather regrettable.

Nan Chengzhi's face showed that he was barely maintaining his composure. Her attitude clearly showed she wasn't willing to talk properly.

What kind of person was Lu Li? The entertainment industry was a mixed bag. Even the cleanest people had some dirt on them, no way they could match up to the Nan Family.

He raised a hand to adjust his glasses on the bridge of his nose, sighed deeply, stood up, and coughed twice, half-covering his mouth, "The past is the past, Dad will handle it. Go upstairs and get some sleep, don't let it affect your work."

With that said, he turned and headed upstairs.

After rounding the corner, Nan Chengzhi secretly calculated in his heart: The Su Family's promise should be about time to be fulfilled. Though he's a bit too fond of women, how many normal men could truly resist temptation? Even if it wasn't an ideal match, it was far better than that balding pervert.

This daughter of his looked a lot like her mother. From a young age, she was a standard beauty, with doll-like delicate features, which only grew more beautiful and captivating with time.

As he pushed the door open, Nan Chengzhi was startled by Jiang Xiaoman sitting on the bed with a gloomy face, taking two staggering steps back, his slippers fell off his feet.

Jiang Xiaoman was leaning against the headboard, arms crossed, speaking unhappily, "Feeling heartache?"
