Hours had gone by as Ji-a sat in her office reviewing complaints and stack of files. The papers were piled so high that she could barely see over them. Her eyes were red and tired from reading so much. Her shoulders hurt from sitting in the same position for too long. She looked tired and like she wanted to give up on her life. Every few minutes, she would sigh deeply and rub her eyes.
When the clock finally hit five, she let out a long sigh of relief. At last, the workday was over. She closed the file she had been reading and started to put her things away.
Right at that moment, her phone rang. She looked at the screen and saw it was her mother, Mi-na. Ji-a picked up the phone, not bothering to hide how tired she was.
"Yes?" she said lazily, her voice dragging with exhaustion.
"Ji-a, don't come home tonight," her mother said. "Go to your grandfather's house instead."
Ji-a stopped putting papers in her bag. "Why?" she asked, confused about the sudden change of plans.
