Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The Oath of the Guardians

The Guardian's question hung in the air, heavy with the promise of danger and the need for action. Min-ah and I looked at each other, a silent understanding passing between us. We both knew the life we'd known was gone forever. After what we'd seen and experienced, there was no turning back.

"What kind of fight?" I finally asked.

The Guardian replied. "A fight for the survival of our world. The Troubles aren't just mindless monsters. They're being directed. There's a force behind them that's trying to break the barriers between dimensions, and if they succeed, the consequences will be catastrophic."

"Who's behind them?" Min-ah asked.

The Guardian sighed. "We don't know for sure yet. But we're investigating. And we believe the key to stopping them lies in understanding their origin and how they're manipulating dimensional energies."

They told us about the history of the Guardians, a secret group of Marked who had existed for generations, fighting supernatural threats in the shadows. They told us their numbers had dwindled in recent years and that they needed new allies.

"We believe you two have the potential to make a difference," the Guardian said. "You've demonstrated courage and determination. And your abilities... are unique and powerful."

Min-ah and I looked at each other again. The decision wasn't easy, but deep down, we both knew the answer.

"We're in," I finally said. "We'll help them."

Min-ah nodded firmly. "Yes. We want to fight."

The Guardians' faces lit up with a faint smile. "Welcome," said the Guardian. "You have made a brave decision. But you must understand that this path will not be easy. There will be dangers, sacrifices..."

"We're ready," I interrupted.

"Good," said the Guardian. "Then the first thing you must do is swear. Swear that you will keep the Guardians' secret, that you will fight the Troubles, and that you will protect the innocent."

The Guardian and the Guardian stood up and looked at us seriously. Min-ah and I stood up as well, feeling the weight of the promise we were about to make.

"I swear," I said, my voice firm.

"I swear," Min-ah repeated with conviction.

The Guardians nodded. "They're part of us now. They're Guardians now."

Immediately after our swearing in, the Guardians updated us on the current situation. They showed us more data on their monitors, maps of Trouble activity around the city, and profiles of the new types of Troubles that had been appearing. They told us there was a significant surge of dimensional energy in an old, abandoned building in the industrial district, and they suspected it might hold the key to what was happening.

"We need to investigate that place," the Guardian said. "We need to know what's going on in there."

"When?" Min-ah asked.

"Now," the Guardian replied. "We have no time to waste."

They provided us with basic equipment: communicators, flashlights, and small devices that, they explained, could detect dimensional energy. They told us to be discreet and avoid direct confrontation unless absolutely necessary.

As we prepared to leave, I felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness. This was real. We were about to leap into action, to face the unknown. But we were no longer alone. We had the Guardians on our side. And we had each other.
