Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: A Step Into the Unknown

The proposal for a meeting made us even more uneasy. A safe place, away from prying eyes... it sounded like something out of a spy movie. We tried to get more information from our mysterious contact, asking who they were and what they did, but the answers were evasive. They only told us that we were "allies" and that we shared a common enemy: the Troubles.

"I don't like this, Ryu Hyuk," Min-ah said, biting her thumbnail. "Too secretive. Too... suspicious."

"I know," I replied. "But what other choice do we have? We don't know anything about the Troubles, about how to stop them. If these people really have that information..."

"It could be a trap," Min-ah insisted. "They could be trying to take us somewhere to... I don't know, capture us."

We considered all possibilities. They could be agents of some secret government organization, trying to recruit or study us. They could be other Marked with their own agenda. Or, at best, they could truly be who they claimed to be: allies with valuable information.

Ultimately, we decided we couldn't pass up this opportunity. The need to know more, to understand the threat we faced, was too great. But we were going to be extremely careful.

We agreed on a meeting place: an abandoned subway station on the outskirts of the city, a place Min-ah knew from exploring with some friends a while back. It was an isolated spot, with multiple entrances and exits, allowing us to easily escape if things got ugly.

We exchanged several more messages with our contact, coordinating the time and details of the meeting. They asked us to go alone and not tell anyone. Min-ah's paranoia grew with each message.

"I'm going to create some gusts of wind around the perimeter," he said the night before the meeting. "If anyone comes by uninvited, I'll know."

I was nervous too. I practiced my skills, trying to fine-tune my control over the metal. I had several small metal objects hidden in my pockets, ready to be used if necessary.

The time for the meeting arrived. Min-ah and I headed to the abandoned subway station, our hearts pounding. The air was thick with tension. Every shadow seemed to hide a potential threat.

We entered the station cautiously, moving silently through the dark corridors. The place was filled with dust and cobwebs, and the air smelled damp and neglected. We followed the instructions we'd been given and arrived at an old platform, dimly lit by the light filtering through a crack in the ceiling.

There, waiting for us in the darkness, were two figures. They were tall and thin, dressed in dark clothing that hid their faces in shadow. They didn't move or say anything as we approached.

The tension in the air was almost palpable. My heart pounded in my chest. We were about to discover who these people were and what this "truth" they claimed to know was. But as I stared at those two figures in the darkness, a deep sense of foreboding washed over me. I knew we were about to venture into uncharted territory, and I wasn't sure what we would find there.
