The Chitauri invasion of Earth didn't showcase the technological edge one would expect from an interstellar civilization. Apart from disrupting Earth's military communications, their weapons and equipment appeared only marginally more advanced than Earth's—barely even a generational leap.
This didn't make sense!
This was a civilization capable of interstellar travel! Earth had already created weapons like nuclear bombs. So why couldn't the Chitauri deploy weapons far superior to ours?
When Tony Stark pointed this out, everyone's faces turned grim.
Sure, they were Super Heroes with extraordinary combat abilities. But against weapons of mass destruction, they would be completely outmatched.
Truth be told, they were already struggling against the Chitauri's existing forces. Before combat ability reaches a certain level, it's entirely normal for many ants to bring down an elephant.
The mood in the room grew solemn. At that moment, Robert spoke.
"I think they might be trying to bring down the Mother Ship."
As soon as the words left his mouth, everyone turned their gaze toward him.
Rocket Raccoon once said: The Chitauri army is the most garbage force in the entire Milky Way Galaxy. But even so, "garbage" by galactic standards is still far superior to Earth's current capabilities.
Earth wasn't even considered part of the larger galactic community.
To the great cosmic empires, Earth was just a small, insignificant planet in a forgotten corner of the universe. Technologically, Earth was nowhere near the Chitauri's level.
The Chitauri weren't the same as the weak invaders in the movies that Black Widow could take down with a simple pistol.
In reality, they were an advanced civilization with interstellar capabilities.
Not only could they deploy semi-biological interstellar warriors, but their battleships also carried powerful energy weapons.
While their regular ships were dangerous enough, the Chitauri Mother Ship—acting as the Hive mind's core—was equipped with planet-destroying weaponry!
A single shot from such a weapon could obliterate an entire city.
Since their ground forces couldn't break Earth's resistance, the Chitauri logically escalated to a full-scale planetary assault.
To Thanos, this army was just expendable cannon fodder—tools to soften up the target.
Thus, the entire fleet surged forward.
Even though Robert hadn't gained powers like Superman's X-ray vision or super sight, his enhanced vision far surpassed that of ordinary humans.
He could see what others couldn't: the Portal above New York was expanding, and waves of blue energy pulsed outward.
Clearly, the Chitauri were actively enlarging the Portal in outer space.
But others missed this detail.
Tony Stark lacked the visual acuity to notice, and Thor—blunt as ever—hadn't connected the dots.
When Robert pointed it out, Tony Stark couldn't help but challenge him.
"Why do you say that?"
"What proof do you have? Or are you pretending you can predict the future now?"
"Uh…"
Robert was momentarily speechless.
This Tony Stark was really something—sharp-tongued and skeptical.
But Robert, a man of composure, wasn't about to argue with this overgrown child.
Compared to the seasoned hero Tony Stark would one day become, the present version was still immature and impulsive.
People needed time to grow.
And clearly, Tony Stark hadn't reached his peak yet.
With a calm smile, Robert replied, "Mr. Stark, why don't you look up and see for yourself?"
His words prompted everyone to raise their heads.
The Portal above had grown to span thousands of meters, casting a massive shadow over New York's skyline.
Through the widening gateway, they could now see an enormous battleship, its vector thrusters flickering like angry stars.
Tony Stark's face shifted instantly—part embarrassment, part rising panic.
Who would've thought the Chitauri would actually send down that monster of a battleship?
"We have to stop it!"
"We can't let that thing come through!"
"If it lands, even if we manage to destroy it, New York will be in ruins," Tony declared.
Though he didn't say it outright, everyone knew he was thinking about his beloved Stark Tower, which would undoubtedly be one of the first casualties.
Just then, Jarvis's voice echoed through Tony's suit.
"Sir, the energy index is climbing rapidly. That machine is charging up!"
Tony's eyes hardened.
"Do it now!"
"That thing's about to fire!"
Without hesitation, Tony raised his gauntlets and launched two compact missiles into the sky.
Thor, rallying to the cause, lifted Mjolnir and summoned a storm, gathering immense bolts of lightning that crackled toward the alien ship.
The X-Men joined in.
Alanna, with her telekinetic powers, hurled massive chunks of debris at the vessel.
Cyclops ripped off his visor, unleashing his full optic blast—an intense beam slicing through the sky.
Storm, coordinating with Thor, added her lightning to the mix, turning the sky into a swirling storm of energy.
Missiles, lightning, and laser beams all converged on the Chitauri battleship with tremendous force.
There was a deafening crack as one of the ship's wings sheared off, tumbling in flames.
But it wasn't enough.
Despite the damage, the core systems of the alien vessel remained intact.
Even Earth's early submarines had sealed compartments to prevent catastrophic failures—so it was no surprise that this interstellar craft had multiple redundancies.
The structural damage didn't slow it down; the ship's main weapon continued to gather power at its center.
Everyone's faces paled.
They had already thrown everything they had—and it hadn't stopped the weapon from charging.
There wasn't enough time to strike again.
Robert stepped forward, his expression solemn.
"Let me try."
The green ring on his hand flared with dazzling light, forcing everyone nearby to shield their eyes.
"Ragnarok!" Robert shouted.
A towering figure, wreathed in green flames, erupted from the ground beneath him.
The sheer force of its emergence shook nearby buildings and sent shockwaves through the air.
Tony Stark blinked at the sight.
Thor's grip tightened around Mjolnir.
Even battle-hardened warriors like Ryan and Fleming took a step back, wary of the unknown power Robert had just summoned.
This wasn't just another energy blast.
This was something ancient and primal—something that even the Chitauri's cold technology might not be ready for.
Up above, the massive battleship continued its descent, the energy core pulsing brighter with each passing second.
If it fired, New York would be wiped off the map.
But Robert's summoned avatar—a massive fire giant cloaked in emerald flames—let out a guttural roar that echoed across the skyline.
The creature drew back its flaming fist, then hurled it skyward with the force of a meteor strike.
The punch connected with the ship's energy core just as it reached critical mass.
A blinding explosion tore through the sky, and the battleship convulsed violently, its power systems collapsing in a chain reaction.
Chunks of burning metal rained down over the Hudson River.
The Portal flickered, then began to contract, destabilized by the shockwave.
For a moment, silence reigned.
Then cheers erupted from the heroes below.
Tony, panting, glanced at Robert.
"Well… remind me not to question you next time."
Robert gave a modest smile, his green ring dimming as the summoned giant dissolved into sparks.
But he knew—this was only the beginning.
If Thanos had sent this force, there were worse threats yet to come.
