When Penny reached the mall with Hughes, they stepped inside the big building. People were scattered around from one angle to another.
Bright lights poured from the high ceilings. Shiny tiles stretched across the floor like a river of stars. Everywhere they looked, there were glittering signs, polished glass, and quiet music playing in the background.
There were different sectors for different goods. The clothes sector, the food sector, and the bag sector. This was one of the biggest malls in all of Owlsgrave.
Hughes gasped, her mouth falling open. "This… this is a mall?" she whispered, blinking like a baby deer in headlights. It's been more than 15 years since she's left the Adkins mansion, so everything she saw looked so new.
The last time she was out here, there were no skyscrapers like she saw on the road. No tall buildings, just a few houses. Things really did change so fast.
