Chapter 51: Class Upgrade, The Summoner Class
"AHHHHHHHHHH!"
A primal, guttural scream ripped through the silence of night, echoing across the high cliffs of Whispering Hollow.
Lei Feng dropped to his knees, clutching his chest as if trying to hold himself together. Pain—raw, searing, unrelenting—erupted within him. It was as if thousands of molten needles lanced through his nerves all at once. His muscles convulsed. His vision blurred. Every heartbeat slammed against his ribcage like a war drum.
His body arched violently, veins bulging and glowing faintly with crackling energy. His skin flushed an angry red, and sweat poured from his brow in sheets. The air trembled around him as if reality itself strained under the transformation unfolding within.
It wasn't just pain—it was destruction and rebirth colliding at the cellular level. Something deep inside him was being torn apart and reforged in the furnace of evolution.
He wasn't supposed to survive this.
No one was.
For a moment, everything around him blurred—sounds warped, colors bled together, and the ground seemed to ripple beneath him. And then, like a comforting blanket draped over the agony, a strange, serene energy descended. Ethereal tendrils of otherworldly light wrapped around his body, pulsing gently with purpose.
This was no ordinary system update.
Something impossible was happening.
Awakening a second Class was unheard of. An Awakener was only meant to house one. Except anomalies—those rare few who pushed beyond their boundaries—slightly altering the fundamental law of singularity.
Lei Feng was no anomaly.
Not until now.
He screamed again, his voice hoarse and cracking as his body convulsed. The transformation ravaged every corner of his being, yet that otherworldly force kept him alive. Not comfortably—barely—but alive enough to endure.
Minutes passed like hours.
Hours like eternities.
And then—
Silence.
Lei Feng collapsed backward onto the dew-slick grass, his chest heaving as if he'd run through a thunderstorm barefoot. His skin glowed faintly under the moonlight, and his robe clung to him, soaked in sweat.
"Hah... Hah... For a second…" he panted, his voice dry and weak, "...I thought the system really wanted me dead."
He blinked at the stars above, his body trembling—not from fear—but from the raw aftershock of having survived whatever that was.
He dared not move.
Only breathe.
Only exist.
And then—
Ding!
A familiar chime echoed in his mind, and a translucent System window shimmered into existence above him.

Lei Feng stared, wide-eyed. His body still ached, but his mind blazed with exhilaration.
A Class Upgrade was one of the rarest blessings an Awakener could experience—most lived and died without ever achieving it. It wasn't something you trained for. It was something you earned through fate, desperation… or in Lei Feng's case—a damn near-death experience.
Still… something felt off.
"Wait," he croaked, blinking at the screen, "Shouldn't I have awakened a second Magic Class? Why a Class Upgrade instead?"
The question barely left his lips when the interface pulsed once more—
Ding!
Congratulations!
You have awakened the Magic Class:
[Summoner]
Lei Feng bolted upright. "Summoner?! That's a huge change!"
He had only vague knowledge of the Class—mostly from old Earth novels and games. But he understood the basics: summoners called powerful companions to fight beside them. Supportive, destructive, diverse… and in the hands of someone clever, overwhelmingly deadly.
---
[Class: Summoner]
A rare and powerful magical Class that draws upon elemental realms, ancient contracts, and latent resonance within the user's soul.
• Allows the summoning of bound spirit-beasts, constructs, or elementals.
• Summons may evolve based on affinity, combat experience, or exposure to rare catalysts.
• Summoners may form emotional and spiritual bonds with their companions, enhancing synergy and unlocking hidden skills.
• Highly versatile. Scales with both mana and perception stats.
---
Lei Feng's eyes shimmered. An entirely new branch of power… His to master.
Something inside him shifted again—a subtle resonance, like a forgotten melody echoing in his soul. His very core pulsed with energy.
He wasn't just a swordsman now.
He was more.
Ding!
New Active Skills Acquired!

[Summoner's Empathy – Top Grade]
Grants emotional and spiritual resonance with summons. Enables telepathic communication, damage mitigation sharing, and reactive coordination.

Lei Feng slowly rose to his feet, brushing the grass from his robe. His storm robe fluttered in the wind. A sharp smile broke across his lips.
The sky overhead shimmered with silver starlight.
"Time to test this new class."
He raised a hand to the air, fingers outstretched. His voice was calm—but reverent.
"Elemental Summon."
Whoooosh—!
The air warped as a sudden chill swept across the cliff. Energy surged outward like a shockwave, bending the surrounding space.
Five distinct whirlpools tore open the air before him, each swirling like rifts in reality.
One shimmered orange-red, burning like molten fire.
One churned azure-blue, pulsing with aquatic rhythm.
Another twisted in pale blue, cold and razor-sharp.
A fourth spiraled light green, shifting like the wind.
And the last trembled dark brown, deep and grounded.
Lei Feng blinked. "Wait… Five?"
He stared in disbelief. From everything he remembered—first-time Summoners could only open a single gate. What he was seeing now defied logic.
The portals pulsed… then expanded.
The cliff trembled.
Sizzle.
Crack.
Fwooooom—!
Powerful auras burst forth—each one unique, ancient, alive.
Lei Feng stood tall, posture straight, but inside, his heart raced. He felt like a child standing before the gates of destiny.
What are they? How strong are they?
The portals finally stabilized—and from each, a tiny figure floated into view.
Lei Feng's eyes widened.
"...What the—?"
There, suspended midair, were five miniature beings. Each no larger than his palm. All of them had chubby cheeks, stubby limbs, and glowing eyes filled with mischief and power.
They looked like chibi mascots from a magical anime.
One had flames dancing in its hair.
One trailed bubbles and water droplets wherever it floated.
Another gave off an icy aura, tiny frost flakes forming at its feet.
One was adorned with two flashing wings and a windy aura.
And the last had miniature stone armor and glowing molten eyes.
They were adorable.
They were powerful.
They were his.
Lei Feng stared at the five floating figures, his mouth agape.
Out of all the appearances he had imagined—majestic beasts, elegant spirits, towering golems—he never expected this.
"These... these look like manga chibis!" he cried internally.
One of them gave him a smug little salute.
Another poked its tongue out at him playfully.
Lei Feng sighed.
"So much for majestic first impressions."
But still… a grin spread across his face.
He had awakened something truly special.
