Chapter 77 - Adventures guild

At dawn's first light, Hans von Eisenhart and Shuna made their way through the waking streets of E‑Naeul. The cool morning air carried the briny scent of the harbor as the couple navigated the labyrinthine alleys toward the modest yet serviceable building of the Adventurer's Guild. Their footsteps were measured and discreet—every bit the fallen noble and his devoted consort.

The Guild's exterior was far from grand. Weathered stone and faded insignia told the tale of a long-established institution, one that catered to adventurers of all calibers—from fledgling wanderers to hardened mercenaries. Today, Hans and Shuna were to become members under forged identities that would allow them to blend seamlessly into the local fabric of heroes and drifters.

Inside, the bustling lobby was alive with murmurs of excitement and subdued ambition. Adventurers huddled around notice boards, inspected job listings, and compared scars from past escapades. Stepping up to the registration counter, Hans presented his modestly leafed parchment. The clerk—a thin, quick-witted man with a knowing smile—scanned the written words.

There was a moment's pause as the clerk's eyes widened, then he nodded slowly, stamping the credentials with a practiced flourish. "Welcome, Mr. von Eisenhart. May your journey be prosperous."

Shuna offered a polite nod in response. With credentials in hand and formalities completed, the couple stepped out into the crowded thoroughfare of E‑Naeul.

They walked slowly, absorbing every detail—the clamor of market vendors, the sturdy construction of residential quarters, and the diffuse camaraderie of those who shared dreams of adventure. Hans's mind raced as he mentally catalogued tidbits of local lore and strategic advantages. A faint smile tugged at his lips walking through the streets.

"Keep your eyes open," Hans murmured softly as they strolled. "Every conversation, every whispered rumor has worth. We must understand not only the threats but the hidden alliances that bind these people together."

Shuna's gaze remained alert as she measured the passersby. "I've already noticed a few figures who seem unusually interested in our arrival," she remarked quietly. "Subtle glances, brief nods. It seems we're being assessed."

Their conversation was interrupted by the sound of a street performer—a high-pitched bard with a lute—that brought a brief moment of levity to the busy morning.

As the morning gave way to midday, the couple found themselves at a quiet courtyard off the main street. They retreated to a shaded alcove to review a small map Hans had procured. Over delicate fingerprints etched across its surface, he traced the routes of known trade lanes and the locations of several prominent denizens.

"We will work in the shadows infiltrating the criminal organisations while playing hero to the public," Hans said, his voice low and steady. "We will gather intelligence on every guild, and every faction."

Shuna regarded him with both admiration and quiet resolve. "Then I take it we will engage with our nosey friend?"

The day's work continued as the couple split briefly to engage in initial reconnaissance. Hans joined a small band of adventurers on minor errands—escorting a caravan along a narrow road outside the city walls and quelling a disturbance at a nearby marketplace. His performance was unremarkable to the casual observer.

The soft light of dusk lent a reflective air to their conversation. Shuna glanced outside the window, remarking gently, "It's getting late. We should head back to the Inn."
