Zara sighed, rolled her eyes away, and pulled her hand from his grasp, a small attitude smirk replaced, "Why do you care? Do I need to inform you about everything I do?" she retorted, her voice laced with irritation.
Adam's mind reeled from his earlier conversation with Dante, a whirlwind of unspoken anxieties. He was busily checking his office documents. the sudden shrill of his phone sliced through the quiet concentration. "Why? Winter calling this late?" he murmured, a flicker of unease shadowing his brow as he swiped the green button.
"Yes. Mr. Winter," Adam spoke after hearing Dante's anxious tone fill his ear.
"Adam. Can you just track Zara's location. I think she going to somewhere" Dante replied.
"Okay, Mr. Winter. I will check." Adam said and cut off the call as his fingers were already flying across his phone screen, initiating the trace. A knowing smirk played on Adam's lips, realizing the truth, "You sneaked out again. Why are you even making your life a risk?" Adam asked, his voice dropped and laced with care. His phone popped with a message sound in his hand.
Zara's gaze flickered to his phone and moved to his eyes, a wave of disappointment washing over her. "You're tracking me again," she questioned. "Stop this nonsense, Adam."
"I am not. This is just a coincidence we met," he said, his voice more like pleading.
"Coincidence... "Zara's brows arched in disbelief. "Don't act as if you care about me."
Adam sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I don't understand what's gotten into you lately. Why would I need to track you? You've been acting so… distant." He paused, his gaze searching hers. "I care about you, Zara. More than you seem to realize. Why can't you understand what I am trying to tell you? Nowadays, you act like a spoiled kid." Adam added as he grabbed her unsteady hands.
" Cared...."Zara laughed clapping her hands like a teased, "You do more shitter things behind my back, now you act like fucking care me." she retorted, a bitter edge to her voice.
Adam grabbed her hands, holding them gently. "Zara... if I did something wrong, please tell me. We can solve that, but keep distancing yourself and make me question everything," he said, his words genuine and a little hurt.
Zara's gaze remained on his face, and her mind reeled. Adam and His friend Jade were sitting on Zara's bed, kissing each other in her bed. Zara's eyes widened in shock, watching them as the doorway kept fresh juice in her hand.
As Known smirk appeared on her lips, thinking of their kiss, and she removed his hands from her, raising her brows as she stepped closer, no gap in between them. "Nothing.... I just don't like fake care," she said, her voice low and challenging as she turned and walked out of the bar.
Adam let out a frustrated breath, his hands ran over his hair in confusion. "Shit, What the hell is her problem, she has something but she never going to open up," he murmured as he ran outside behind her.
"Why do I fake? Zara.... " Adam followed her back.
"I don't know... I just have feelings like that," she said, walking into the parking lot.
"Zara... wait. At least, can I drop you off? "Adam called out, running behind her, and reached out her hand as he tried to pull her back.
She never stopped, took her phone from her small handbag, her finger searched for Emmy's number, and dialed Emmy. Before the call connected, he grabbed her phone and cut off the call. "What the hell is your problem, Adam. Why can't you leave me alone?" she questioned, her voice rising in anger.
"What's my problem?" Adam's eyes rolled upwards, and his hand ran over his hair. "I'm trying to make sure you get home safely! How can I leave you in this big city?" he pleaded, his eyes filled with a mixture of frustration and genuine concern.
Zara brows arched, moved closer and watched his eyes from the bottom." Why do you care.... why do I have to come with you?" she asked, her voice confident.
Adam grabbed her hand, pointing to her ring finger holding a diamond ring. "Because we are engaged. We gonna marry next year. Everyone knows about this, except you." he paused, his voice low and in pain. " Please whatever reason you have to hate me. It's fine.... Hate me how much you want. Now, just get in my car. I can't leave my future wife on the road." he roared, his voice echoed the parking lot.
"Wife?" Zara scoffed, an annoyed tone laced, "We're just engaged, Adam, not married." She turned, her heels clicking against the floor as she headed towards the driveway; her movements were a clear rejection in her posture.
Before she could take another step, Adam's hand clamped around her waist. The casual strength with which he lifted her, as if she weighed nothing, stole her breath. He opened the door of his sleek black car and gently placed her on the plush leather seat.
"Let me out, Adam!" Zara's voice rose in panic as she struggled against his grip, her fists pounding against his unyielding hand.
He ignored her pleas, his expression a tight mask of anger and possessiveness. He reached for the seatbelt, his movements precise and forceful. Then, he moved to the driver's seat, his silence heavy with unspoken tension.
Zara couldn't speak. Her eyes remained on the rearview mirror, her frustration visible. He pressed a car scent, his Favorite rose scent, to lighten her mood. "Can we go?" Adam's voice cut through the silence before starting the car.
"Don't pretend that everything is accomplished just by my words," Zara said, her voice laced with a mixture of pain and disappointment.
"Zara... Why are you always so adamant?" Adam kept his eyes on the road and his hands gripped the steering wheel.
"I am not, I don't like being around fake love and fake people," she snapped, her gaze still fixed out the side window.
Adam's brows narrowed, a flicker of hurt in his eyes. "What? Who is fake here?" he paused, his voice softening slightly. "At least just... tell me what's wrong, Zara. Please." He just reached out for her hand without thinking, hoping to feel that connection again.
Can I ask about that kiss? Maybe he has a valuable reason behind it. A thought sparked within her. Wait, what valuable reason could there be for kissing another girl? How naive are you, Zara? You're still trying to believe he's innocent. She wrestled with her inner turmoil, a knot of confusion and hurt tightening in her chest. She pulled her out hand from his soft grip.
The silence stretched between them. Adam's eyes were on the road, but his mind raced with confusion; being silent can't solve our problem. Why did she hate me so much? why she can't she understand how much I love her? I don't know Zara... Please open up he thought.
"Um! If you want to go to parties with friends, just let me know next time," he said, breaking the tense silence and watching her face, searching for a reaction.
Before he could finish the sentence. Zara exploded, her eyes narrowed in anger. "What? Are you just trying to control me just like my father?"
