Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: The Admiral's Arrival

A feeling of uncertainty coursed through me as I ran to where the others were. This whole situation is very bad; people will blame me for "killing" the Tenryuubito. In the face of all this, I can only curse Anna.

What Anna did was use her Devil Fruit. It's worth noting that almost everyone in my family has a Devil Fruit; the only exceptions are Dianna and me.

Anna's fruit is the Fuku Fuku no Mi; that makes my sister a duplicator. She can duplicate anything except living objects, the exception being herself. The only living being who can duplicate herself is herself. Another ability she has is the ability to exchange original objects with duplicates.

(Note: I was going to call the clone fruit clone, but looking for the translation, I came across the word fukusei, which means replication or duplication, so I'm sticking with that word for the fruit. It also limits it a bit and makes it look so cheesy, as there are only two replicas and not infinite ones like cloning would have).

Now let's put those two abilities together, and that's it. She always keeps a duplicate of herself in her room; that way she can escape dangerous or unfortunate situations. So when she slit her fiancé's throat, she switched with his duplicate and then got rid of him.

She and my other siblings have pretty powerful fruits. At a certain age, Ares gives us each a Devil Fruit. I rejected mine, for the reasons mentioned above, and gave it to Dianna. So in the not-too-distant future, she'll have one too.

As I ran to where we were staying, my mind was rapidly processing how we were going to get rid of this one. And to be honest, I can't think of any.

POV Third-person.

Trini: "Hey, when are you going to be able to transmute trash into gold?"

Arthur: "It's not that easy. First, you need materials that resemble gold; second, for such complicated metals, it takes a lot of energy on my part; and third, the time required is much longer than normal. After all, changing the form of one being competent is different from transforming it into another."

Trini: "So can he or can't he?"

The four of them were at home hanging out while the auction situation calmed down a bit. Sulli was maintaining her medical equipment. Isis was sleeping on the couch, drooling from her mouth, and Hun was sitting on top of it, eating nuts, which were in Isis's abdomen. Arthur was trying to make some medical pills at Sulli and Dante's request. Meanwhile, Trini watched what Arthur was doing.

Arthur: "Yes, I can," he said, a mixture of frustration and annoyance. Making the pills was proving harder than she thought, especially if she doesn't have a shred of pharmacological knowledge.

Trini: "So what are you waiting for, instead of wasting time making weight-loss pills?"

Arthur: "They're not—" She couldn't finish what she was saying as the door was suddenly opened.

Everyone stopped what they were doing. Isis woke up immediately, throwing Hun's food on the floor, something that annoyed her, and she immediately complained.

Dante: "We don't have time; we have to disappear."

Everyone: "????"

Dante: "There's no time. Pack your things; we have to hide NOW."

Arthur: "Hey, Dante, calm down, this is the serious thing."

Isis: "If you were sleeping so well, mmm, my back," she said, making sounds of pain and touching her back.

Sulli: "Also, as planned, we still have a few days left until we leave here."

Trini didn't comment, sensing something was wrong with Dante's desperate behavior.

Dante grabbed Arthur by the shoulders, looked him in the eyes, and remarked,

Dante: "A Tenryubito died in front of me, and I'm the only one to blame." Everyone fell silent.

Trini: "Was it you?" She shook her head.

Isis: "Then who--?" She couldn't finish because I interrupted her.

Dante: "It was another Tenryubito."

Sulli: "But why would he do that?"

Dante: "It's more complicated than you think. Just as people can hate each other to death, Tenryubito can also hate each other. The difference is that it's more complicated to kill a Tenryubito than an ordinary person. That's why, if these people who hate each other have the opportunity to kill each other, they will." One example is right now with Anna and her fiancé; she doesn't like being tied to something or someone. Another would be Mercedes. I know who she wants dead, and it's quite complicated knowing her identity.

Dante: "The news must already be spread by the locals, so we can't leave on boats like other times, as they'll betray us; all that's left is to hide and not appear for a long time."

Trini: "How long?"

Dante: "As long as it takes."

Isis: "There's no other way to do it."

Dante: "We can't do it by force, at least not now."

Arthur: "Why?"

Dante: "Since an admiral is coming right now, and we have the strength to face one, at least not as we are right now."

The admiral's arrival was inevitable, and they'll most likely hunt him by land, sky, and sea, since the murder of a Tenryubito is no small feat. Now the question: which of the three admirals is coming, Sengoku, Tsuru, or Zephyr?

Arthur: "We'd better move now; the navy should be here by now."

Trini: "Too late," she said, looking at the door leading to the street.

Dante headed toward the door to see what was happening. He could use his Haki, but he was right next to it, and he preferred to see what was happening with his own eyes. Once it opened, two squadrons of marines appeared outside. They were commanded by a junior lieutenant and a warrant officer.

Junior Lieutenant: "Criminal Dante, please surrender peacefully to the authorities for the murder of a celestial dragon," he said as loudly as he could so everyone could hear him.

Dante: "I'll say it just once: I didn't kill the celestial dragon; I was just passing by. You can corroborate that with your companion, Annastasia Manmayer."

The officer and the junior lieutenant frowned when they heard me mention my sister.

Officer: "Maybe so. According to what we know, Mr. Ethanbaron was with Ms. Manmayer, and he must have been there when that happened, but suddenly disappeared. Maybe she knows something," he whispered in my ear, but I heard it since I had activated my Observation Haki.

Junior Lieutenant: "I don't care. They told me to bring this guy in handcuffs, and that's what I'm going to do. What happens next is none of my business." Now, a confrontation was inevitable. If we wanted to escape and hide, we needed to get rid of these guys. "Now are you going to surrender or resist" he spoke loudly.

Dante: "I'll also give my warning: I'm completely innocent, so I don't feel I deserve this treatment, so I'll defend myself. So leave, since I don't want to hurt you," I said as I grabbed my sword and positioned myself to fight. I could have used Conqueror's Haki, but I'm not skilled at using it, and I don't want to knock out my friends.

Junior Lieutenant: "Fire."

Quickly, he buried his sword in the ground and, with force, destroyed everything in front of and around him, raising a large amount of smoke and debris. This created a smokescreen, allowing him to enter the place where he's staying. He uses his sword on his back to shield the Marines' bullets.

Dante looks at his companions and sees that they're ready. Trini has her pistols and AT in a bag that resembles a guitar case. Arthur has his spear and a bag with half of her important things. Sulli has a backpack and a suitcase with her medical supplies, which no one knows the name of, since no one here is a doctor or a medical graduate. Isis carries the other half of her important things in a bag, and Hun is on her shoulder. They're all ready to go.

(Note: Studying a medical degree doesn't make you a doctor, and to be a doctor, you don't need to be a doctor; you have to accept reality. To be a doctor, you need a PhD, not an eight-year degree. It's like thinking you'll be a judge just by studying law.)

Dante: "Leave through the back, and let's be quick. Whoever gets in our way, take them down without killing them." Everyone nodded at his words.

Everyone ran out of the place; some went through the windows, others through the door. Dante and Arthur decided to break through the wall directly.

What they didn't know was that there were marines surrounding almost the entire grove they were in.

(Note: The grove was like the island where the number was indicated, in case you didn't remember; there was always a large tree with its number.)

The five ran while some marines chased them from behind, adding more and more people behind them.

Trini: "This isn't working, Dante. We're going to have to reduce the number of our pursuers if you want to escape," she said as more marines emerged in front of her.

Dante: "Okay," he said, stopping, causing the others to stop as well, "Let's take down some of them. Once the number is low, we'll split into three groups. The first is Arthur and Sulli, the second is Trini and Isis, and the last is just me. Just hide. Then I'll find each of you. Understand?"

Everyone: "Yes!" they said to Dante.

Dante turned to face those in the back, along with Isis, while those in front took care of the others.

Dante: "We have to be quick; If these guys arrived so quickly, how long will it take for the admiral to arrive?

With great speed, he attacks the marines. Using the dull side of his sword, he slashes, trapping three marines and throwing them into a building. Isis creates a whirlwind, which engulfs a large number of marines.

Dante moves with great speed through the troops, dodging and knocking out any soldier in his path. Just as he was about to knock out the 24th Marine, one arrives with his sword, attacking Dante, forcing him to block.

It was the junior lieutenant, who attacked Dante from behind; Dante had to use his sword to block the attack. With a snort of annoyance at the sneak attack, he powerfully uses his sword to lift the lieutenant into the air. Once in the air, Dante jumps above the lieutenant and charges down with a slash.

The junior lieutenant is barely able to block. Dante had seen this, which was why he attacked the way he did, knowing the lieutenant would defend himself.

With a sound of pain, the lieutenant was slammed to the ground. Dante didn't stop there. With his sword on top of the man, he positioned himself at his side, launching an energy attack at the lieutenant's sword. The lieutenant was sent flying along with the attack and other marines who were in the way, knocking out the junior lieutenant. The two attacks were enough to break the lieutenant's wrists, making him unable to continue using his sword.

Dante didn't stop; he continued to knock down marines; among them were recruits, sergeants, and corporals. Isis continued to wreak havoc with the power of air. Arthur, Trini, and Sulli had already taken down a good number of marines.

Trini used her hand-to-hand combat skills. Arthur used a shield to fight, completely abandoning his spear, as he didn't want to seriously injure any marines. Sulli used her briefcase, which was made of steel, for combat; despite her limited combat experience, she performed quite well.

Dante: "Okay, we separate now," he told his companions.

They were almost leaving the location, as agreed, when Dante and Trini stopped in their tracks.

Isis: "What's going on?" She asked Trini; this caused Arthur and Sulli to stop as well.

Dante looked up at the sky and saw a dot speeding toward them. Suddenly, it crashed, forming a trail of smoke.

Everyone stopped in their tracks to see what had happened. Little by little, the smoke cleared. From there, smoke began to rise. From the center, a burly man with short purple hair, his suit also being purple, was seen. He wore a cape with golden shoulder pads, with "Justice" written on it. It was Vice Admiral Zephyr who had arrived at the call to attack the celestial dragon.

(Note: According to my calculations, in this year of the story, Zephyr should already be an instructor, therefore not an admiral. But from what I understand, neither Kizaru, Kusan, nor Akainu are admirals, so I decided he's still an admiral, since there would be a gap. The same goes for Tsuru; it doesn't say she's an admiral anywhere; I added her just for the record. Besides, she was Sengoku and Garp's battle partner, so she can't be weak.)

Dante and the others froze for a moment; their situation had become much more complicated than before.

Zephyr: "Lay down your weapons and surrender. As a self-proclaimed hero, I have a certain amount of respect for you, so I'd like to end this amicably and avoid an unnecessary conflict."

Zephyr is a man of honor who wants to end the age of piracy, so he respects Dante for the deeds he's committed. If he could, he would do something similar to what Garp did to join Dante and the others in the navy. But that wasn't what he was here for.

Dante: "Is there a guarantee that they'll free us if we do that?"

Zephyr: "You committed a crime, and there's no way to forgive that, whether you're pirates or not."

Dante: "But we didn't kill anyone. We're innocent. We never really did anything wrong," he said, trying to appeal to Zephyr's common sense. "Or at least anything very wrong," he thought.

Zephyr: "That's for justice to decide," he said, looking at Dante.

Dante: "Then there's no guarantee," he said with a sigh, then positioned his sword defensively.

The others did the same, getting ready to fight. The Marines distanced themselves from the impending conflict; they knew they couldn't intervene unless they wanted to be severely injured.

Zephyr looked at the others but instead focused on Trini, more specifically on a strange weapon she had taken out of a guitar-like case.

Dante: "Hey," he said to Zephyr, "who you need to keep an eye on. It's me." At that moment, he used his Armament Haki on his arms; Arthur did the same, pointing his spear at Zephyr.

Zephyr looked back at Dante and responded in kind, using his Haki, but now taking a fighting stance.

In just a second, Zephyr lunged at Dante. Dante, seeing Zephyr's speed, decided to block the attack with his sword. By the time he feels the impact, he's sent flying through a building, crashing through it and reaching the building on the other street, also crashing through it, and so on until he manages to stop.

Zephyr turns around to see Arthur already at his side, aiming his spear at him and protecting himself with his shield. Arthur attacks, but Zephyr dodges, then with a quick blow to his shield, removing the cover, leaving him open to another blow.

Just as he was about to attack again, he looks to the side so he can protect himself with Haki from the bullets Trini fires at him.

Arthur wastes no time moving from where he was, causing a small vortex to appear beneath Zephyr. The admiral looks in Isis's direction to see her raise her two fingers upward, only for a tornado to emerge beneath her feet.

Isis was quite frustrated, as the tornado didn't lift Zephyr into the air but instead stayed there. Zephyr wastes no time and charges at Isis. The others won't be able to reach Isis in time.

Just as he was about to reach Isis, he looked to his right. Three energy attacks were coming from that direction. Zephyr had no choice but to block the attack with his arms using Haki.

The attack didn't do much to him, only landing a few superficial blows. Dante was walking from the same direction; he had a head wound, as evidenced by the blood dripping there.

Dante: "Well, I think it's time to get 100 percent serious," he said, his voice loud enough for everyone to hear.

I'd like to make this chapter longer, but I'll have to leave it here for one simple reason.

I've never seen the One Piece Z movie. Therefore, I don't know how Zephyr fights, so I'll have to watch the movie tomorrow to continue the fight.

Another thing I'd like is to be on the fanfic ranking, so maybe the fic will reach more people, even if it means being in the 200th position in something, and without having to give power stones to my work, since I feel like that would be like the meme where you give yourself a medal, which I don't think is the idea, which is why I haven't commented on the fic and I've given myself 5 stars on everything like other creators.

If it's possible, that's great; if not, that's fine too. It might sound a little tsundere, but it's my way of thinking, not forcing someone to do something; I mention it, but that's all.

I hope you're enjoying the story, since I'm putting a lot of effort into writing it. If there are 3 or 4 people who continue reading it, I'll be fine, since I don't think I'm writing a great story.
