~Alex's POV
Bella finally stirred, her eyelashes fluttering before she slowly opened her eyes. It took her a moment to register where she was, but as soon as she took in the sterile white walls and the soft hum of medical equipment, she shot up in bed, her breath hitching.
Her wide, frightened eyes locked onto me. I had been sitting nearby, watching over her, waiting for this moment, but I wasn't prepared for what came next.
She burst into tears.
It wasn't a soft, silent cry. It was deep, shaking sobs that wracked her fragile frame, her hands coming up to cover her face as if she could hide from me, from this place, from whatever pain was consuming her.
I stiffened for a second, completely caught off guard. I had expected confusion, maybe even fear, but this? This raw, heartbreaking sorrow? I had no idea how to handle it.
"Bella…" I said her name, but I didn't know what else to say.
