~Bella's POV
I was exhausted. My legs felt like they would give out any moment, but I kept pushing forward. I had to find Mr. Callahan. He was Noah's only hope.
The streets were busy as I walked to his office, my stomach twisting with nerves. I told myself that maybe something had come up, maybe he had an emergency, maybe his phone was dead. Maybe there was a reason he didn't show up at the hearing.
But nothing could have prepared me for what I saw when I reached his office.
The door was slightly open, the inside a complete mess. Papers were scattered across the floor, drawers left open, some even yanked out completely. It looked like someone had left in a hurry. My heart pounded as I stepped inside, my breath catching in my throat.
Where was he?
"Mr. Callahan?" I called out, my voice shaky.
Silence.
I pulled out my phone and quickly dialed his number. It rang once before going straight to voicemail. I frowned and tried again. Still nothing.
