Chapter 58: Otsutsuki Genshiki or Otsutsuki Genshin?
"You're home. Get some proper rest."
Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzo stood locked in silent confrontation. Sometimes, silence was louder than any argument. Meanwhile, on the other side of the village, Kakashi had already escorted Gen Kitagawa back home.
"Yes, yes," Gen shrugged, a bit amused.
"But Kakashi-sensei, I'm fine. Why'd you go out of your way to walk me home?"
"It's called being considerate."
Kakashi's eyes curved into a squint as he patted Gen's shoulder with a smile.
"Go rest already. Using Flying Thunder God so many times while carrying someone—any adult would be exhausted."
But I really don't feel tired at all...
Gen pressed his lips together. Even if his mastery was still limited, the Otsutsuki clan's innate control over space-time abilities gave him an edge that couldn't be ignored.
Using Flying Thunder God didn't strain him much at all. In fact, something else had been nagging at him.
"Are Flying Thunder God markers supposed to be interoperable? Why can I sense both the Second and Fourth Hokage's markings—and actually use them?"
It didn't make sense. Gen knew he needed to brush up on his knowledge, but that could wait.
"Oh, right. Don't be late tonight," Kakashi added as he pulled out Icha Icha Paradise and turned to leave.
"And bring someone along if you want. Last time, Jiraiya paid. This time, it's my treat."
"Don't worry, Kakashi-sensei," Gen said, winking.
"I'm never late. Not for dinner—or for saving someone."
"..."
Kakashi rolled his eyes and bonked Gen on the head with his book before walking off, nose buried in its pages.
"Guess he really is okay," Gen muttered, rubbing his head.
He knew the joke might've crossed a line, but he'd wanted to test Kakashi's reaction. Judging by the response, it seemed Kakashi had truly moved on. A joke like that didn't sting anymore.
"But just this once. I won't make the same joke again."
With a glance in Kakashi's direction, Gen leapt up to the rooftops. He didn't actually head home—instead, he ran straight to Naruto's place.
Unfortunately, Naruto wasn't there. He was probably in class.
So, Gen climbed in through the window, scribbled a message on Naruto's desk, and quietly left.
Returning to his own room the same way—through the window—he shut and locked everything tightly behind him.
"Alright then. Time to try out my reward properly."
The Otsutsuki bloodline was... impartial when it came to energy. Regardless of the source, it would assimilate everything into what the body needed.
That was the case with Obito's chakra before, and now, what intrigued Gen the most... was tailed beast chakra.
He wasn't exactly sure what kind of changes it might cause.
"But... the system didn't give me that much."
Considering how massive Isobu—the Three-Tails—was, the chakra Gen received wasn't all that impressive. Maybe just a single 'unit' of power…
Still, he remembered that tailed beast chakra had the ability to evolve on its own.
In a certain temple in the Land of Fire, there was a boy around Naruto's age who had Nine-Tails chakra within him.
That chakra was steadily growing, gradually evolving toward something closer to the true Nine-Tails.
"Still... the Nine-Tails' full consciousness only exists within Naruto and Minato. The others are just beasts—no will of their own."
Gen shook his head and stopped overthinking. Leaving a shadow clone in place, he vanished in the next instant.
After several quick teleports, he finally arrived outside the village. No way he was testing this inside Konoha—especially not with tailed beast chakra involved.
"Alright. Let's do this."
Buzz—
The moment he activated it, he felt a strange surge explode from within his body.
The power spread rapidly, setting his blood ablaze.
And with it came a strange vibration in his muscles.
"Is this... the effect of Yang Release from White Zetsu?"
Gen stood still, carefully feeling it out. There wasn't any pain—just an overwhelming heat rushing through him.
He knew what it was. The Otsutsuki bloodline reacting.
And another thing...
"The Three-Tails' chakra..."
---
Three-Tails' chakra surged wildly into his body, mixing and reacting with his own chakra.
But it wasn't just his body that this chakra influenced—it was pouring into his eyes as well!
"Is this... the power of the fruit beginning to resonate?"
To the Ōtsutsuki, tailed beasts were nothing more than fragments of the God Tree.
And consuming the chakra fruit was, in a sense, akin to absorbing the power of a tailed beast.
So this chakra flowing into his eyes wasn't entirely unexpected.
As the power continued to surge, he could clearly feel his eyes reacting more intensely by the second.
Then, all of a sudden, he felt the power in his eyes explode, erupting alongside the bloodline that thundered within his body—everything felt as though it was transforming.
"This feeling…"
In that moment, Kitagawa Gen felt weightless. A refreshing coolness washed over his entire body.
The heat and frenzy within his blood had subsided. Now, a tremendous power was steadily gathering inside him.
His eyes had clearly undergone a transformation as well. He could see farther. Clearer. Sharper. And perhaps even…
"I think I can predict movements?"
Lifting his head, he watched a bird soaring through the sky and couldn't help but murmur to himself.
It was such a surreal sensation, so vivid that he felt like he had never truly seen anything before in his life.
And more importantly...
"Over there?"
Shifting his gaze from the bird, his eyes locked onto a particular patch of cloud.
He didn't know why, but something in that direction tugged at his senses—something hidden, something distinct.
"Could this be the Tenseigan?"
Gen muttered suspiciously, but after watching for a moment, he shook his head.
Too blurry.
He only had a vague sense, nothing concrete. But he was certain of one thing:
As his bloodline continued to awaken, he would be able to sense that massive eye someday.
And when that time came, maybe he could finally fulfill his long-cherished dream of "beating up the disabled"…
"There's still a long way to go, but at least I have a direction now."
Gen whispered to himself, then reached for a kunai to check his reflection. What he saw stunned him.
"Wait, why am I so pale?!"
Staring at his hand, his face turned stiff. He knew the Ōtsutsuki transformation turned one pale, but he didn't expect it to happen this fast!
He quickly opened his status panel to investigate.
[Name: Kitagawa Gen]
[Age: 13]
[Bloodline: Ōtsutsuki Clan (Awakening Progress: 20%)]
[Chakra Reserves: SS (High Kage Level)]
"Twenty percent already?!"
Staring at the panel, Gen was momentarily dazed. He remembered it being just 13% before.
Even with the Yang Release power obtained from White Zetsu, he hadn't expected more than a 2–3% boost.
But just the chakra from Three-Tails had pushed him this far?
"Is this because of my eye awakening? Or is the tailed beast's chakra alone this potent?"
Gen wasn't sure. But one thing was certain—tailed beasts brought enhancements far beyond expectations. That realization sent a thrill down his spine.
Still, he quickly calmed himself. Using the reflection in the kunai, he examined his face closely.
And in that moment, a random thought popped into his mind.
"Should I start calling myself Ōtsutsuki Genshiki… or Ōtsutsuki Genshin…"
