Before the royal guard's blade could reach my neck, I shut my eyes, bracing for pain, for death. But when I opened them again… I was running.
Running so fast my lungs burned, gasping for air, raw and aching from the desperate screams I had not realized were spilling out of me. my bare feet slammed against the unforgiving ground, torn and bloodied by the stones and twigs. Tears blurred my vision, turning the world into streaks of motion and fear. Behind me, the sharp clatter of armor and the rhythmic pounding of boots filled the air. The guard were still chasing me. their swords drawn and their eyes cold.
To them, I was a criminal, a sinner running from judgment.
It was terrifying. No, more than terrifying and It was suffocating.
Suddenly, my body moved on its own again, like a puppet yanked by unseen strings, "Father!" I screamed. "Please! I am scared! Help me! believe me!"
