Finn opened the box, wanting to see the books inside. As soon as he opened it, he found a note carefully placed on top of the books. It was from the guild master. Next to the letter was a black glove with a small oval-shaped purple gem on it.
Finn took the letter, which lit up for a second, and then words began to appear on it. Finn stared at the letter, fascinated, having never known this type of magic could be used.
'It must be a type of magic that prevents others from reading it,' Finn thought.
[
Finn, these are basic magic books. I wanted to make your search for the magic books easier as compensation for finding the ancestral mural. I also left you a glove with an impeccable gem. You don't have to return it to the guild like the books; it's all yours. I wish I could have delivered the books myself, but I have to go to an important meeting with the other guild masters. As I told you a few days ago, all adventurers must learn at least a minimum of magic, so make sure you practice well, as explorer missions require extensive knowledge of magic.
P.S. Tell Amelia to feed my dog well.
Greetings, Master Rohan

'Sigh, this is all just the basics!?' Finn thought, seeing the pile of books in the box. At a glance, Finn could tell there were at least six thick books in those boxes. Picking up one of the books, he read the title. 'Magical Discovery and Manipulation.' With a slight sigh, Finn quickly flipped through the pages until he reached the last page. "Page 1560… Damn."
—
Finn opened the guild doors. It was already 3 p.m., and he'd decided to take a quick tour of the guild and grab a bite to eat. As soon as he entered, he saw that the guild had been completely cleaned, to the point where it looked like there had never been a food fight there. Finn walked to the dining room, where he sat at a table a little far from the others.
Shortly after, a waiter arrived and took his order. While his food was being brought out, Finn decided to keep studying. Something told him the teacher wouldn't give him easy missions like he was supposed to. A few minutes after Finn's food was delivered, Darwin entered the room, quickly greeting him.
"I see the Master ordered you to train too," Darwin said, approaching and seeing the Imperial Gem on Finn's glove and the book he'd used for a while. "I see. He gave you an Imperial Gem. He gave me this belt with magnets so I could put my sword on my back."
Darwin turned around, showing him how the sword was held in place by a circular magnet.
"And it doesn't fall off at all?" Finn asked.
"Nope, it has a spell that makes the magnetism stronger, but if I hold the sword…" Darwin held the sword's handle over his shoulder, and the sword easily detached itself from the magnet. "The magnet loses almost all of its strength, which allows me to hold it without any problems."
"Incredible…" Finn said.
"And you? Have you made any progress yet?" Darwin asked curiously.
"Honestly, I've only been reading, but I haven't tried anything yet," Finn confessed.
"I see… you should try it now, then. You should have read the beginning of magical manipulation, right?" Darwin asked, noticing that Finn was already on page 530. "How the hell are you already on page 530?"
"Oh, well, what can I say? I'm a good reader," Finn replied. "Before I came to this world, I used to read a lot. If I hadn't read at least 400 pages in the 10 hours I've been reading, I'd be very disappointed…" Finn thought.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Try using the first stage of telekinesis!" Darwin said, waving his hand and closing the book. "I can barely use it, so it's not very useful in fights. But almost no one uses it unless they're just starting to practice magic and interact with it. It's the simplest and best way to cast your magic, since you only have to move things and not manifest an element or anything like that."
"That's true. From what I've read, telekinesis here, being an initial magic that can be learned from the beginning, is considered a weak magic that only consists of three phases. The first phase is called control and focuses on levitating and controlling objects with extreme care. Depending on your skill with this magic, you can lift anything from a glass to a person. The second phase is called attraction and as its name suggests, this phase allows you to attract objects towards you at a greater speed, if you have enough tuning you can attract a person: the third phase, called repulsion, does the opposite of the second and throws the objects away from you' thought Finn, concentrating on the glass in front of him 'but then what about all the sub-branches of telekinesis that were known in my world? Simple... they are natural magic among other magics. Therefore, those sub-branches do not exist here'
Finn could feel a strange sensation running through his body, growing stronger every second. This lasted for a few seconds until he could feel his body adapting to that sensation, to his magic, just like when eyes adjust to a new pair of prescription glasses, and he was also able to slightly control it. Little by little, he followed the instructions in the book, bringing his magic to where the Impe Gem was and slowly connecting with the natural magic. After a few seconds, his body finally formed a link with the natural magic through the Impe Gem. He could feel the natural magic running through his body through the gem, and he was able to control it just like his own magic.
Little by little, he guided the natural magic toward the glass, and with a mental command, the glass began to shake until it finally rose from the table. Darwin smiled at Finn's achievement and continued watching closely, wanting to see how long it could hold. Finn struggled to stabilize the glass, and after a few seconds, the glass remained completely still in the air.
"Wow. You mastered it faster than I thought. It took me almost 15 minutes to stabilize the glass," Darwin commented, seeing the glass completely still. Then another idea occurred to him. "Now how about we move on to the third phase, repulsion? Just think about pushing it lightly, not too much."
Finn nodded, not seeing Darwin's mischievous smile. Pushing lightly, he felt natural magic suddenly react chaotically, pushing harder than he intended. The glass flew out at high speed and ended up hitting Amelia on the head, who happened to be passing by.
"I have to go. I remembered I have things to do around the house…" Finn said, quickly standing up from his seat, but a hand forcefully sat him back down.
"So you think it's funny to throw glasses of water at the waitresses, huh?" Amelia whispered in Finn's ear.
"How the hell did he get here so fast? And why is he so strong?!" Finn thought, frightened. Sweat began to trickle down Finn's forehead as he met Amelia's golden eyes.
Darwin tried to slip away slowly, but just as he was about to reach the dining room door, a bench crashed into his head. Amelia had thrown the bench from Finn's table.
"Not one of them will escape..." Amelia said.
"So what did we learn today?" Amelia asked, looking at Finn, his cheeks swollen. Darwin was lying next to him, still unconscious from the blow.
"No playing inside the dining room area..." Finn replied. "Where does he get so much strength? He's like five times stronger than me..." Finn thought, frightened, remembering how he threw the bench as if it were nothing.
"Good boy…" Amelia said, kneeling in front of him and rubbing his cheek. "I don't want to be rude or mean to you, but if I have to educate you, I won't hesitate, do you understand?" Amelia asked, and Finn quickly nodded. Amelia simply smiled and kissed him on the cheek, healing the swelling. "Now go, I have work to do… and take that filthy bastard with you," Amelia said, leaving the room they were in.
"Wow, I didn't know Amelia had healing magic," Finn said to himself.
"It's a hybrid ability… ouch," Darwin said, standing up and rubbing his head. "Many half-human hybrids are born with a special ability; others develop it over time. Amelia was born with the magic to heal minor wounds with her saliva," Darwin clarified.
"You know a lot about half-beasts… that's weird," Finn replied, his gaze seemingly judging Darwin.
"Tch, whatever. I'm leaving. I want to train a little more before we take our next job... or for the master to give us one," Darwin mentioned, sending a shiver down both of their spines.
"In that case, me too. I don't want to die young. I'm only 15," Finn said, waving goodbye to Darwin.
