Chapter 26 - Man On High XXII

Arden, Steve, Tony, Natasha, Matt, Annie and Antonio fell silent as the newcomer sank into an empty chair. His suit gleamed like burnished bronze; his bearing was calm, almost gentle, in stark contrast to the storm of emotion he provoked.

He inclined his head. "I am  Aries," he announced, voice deep as rolling drums. "God of War."

disbelief flickered across their faces yet none rose to challenge him. His presence held them in an uneasy truce.

Aries folded his gloved hands. "After the Chitauri attack," he began, "the Space Stone was shattered. You remember the Skybreaker's blast, the fracture in the heavens." He paused, letting the memory settle like dust. "What you did not know is that the Space Stone was only one facet of six primal singularities forces older than time itself."

He gestured, and seven motes of light coalesced in mid‑air. Each glowed a different color: crimson, azure, violet, emerald, gold and onyx, with a shifting silver core. "At the birth of your universe, the Big Bang forged these six singularities into ingots of concentrated power the Infinity Stones. Each governs an aspect of existence: Space, Time, Reality, Power, Mind and Soul."

Aries's gaze turned to the frost‑touched boy. "When your world witnessed the Convergence, Gaia Earth's soul. became bonded to Space itself. She inherited the might of the broken Space Stone. Her link to that aspect of reality has made your planet into the new Space Stone."

Tony's jaw dropped. Natasha braced herself against the mantel. Matt's cane clattered softly. Even Arden shifted as he had no idea of Gaia and the implications of her existence let alone her new gained power.

Aries rose, the light motes fading. "Gaia's power over space is now absolute. She can fold continents, sever realms, reshape the horizon. But she is untrained unstable. I have come to guide her, lest that power unravel existence."

He looked to each of them in turn. "You, Champions of Earth, must stand witness. The wars to come will not be fought with bullets or blades alone, but with the will to protect reality itself."

A weighty silence followed then Steve stepped forward. "What must we do?"

Aries inclined his helm. "Learn Gaia's language. Help her master the space within her. Only then can Earth resist those who would claim her power."

Tony swallowed. "We'll help. Right?"

Arden placed a steady hand on Tony's shoulder. "We stand together."

Natasha drew a slow breath. "Then let's get to work."

And in that quiet Brooklyn living room, beneath the watchful eyes of gods and heroes, the next great battle for reality began to take shape.

Aries stood, his presence commanding attention. "Come," he said. "It is time you witness Gaia's heart."

With a sweep of his hand, a portal shimmered into existence. Through it, the heroes glimpsed a vast, luminescent network veins of light pulsing beneath the Earth's surface, resembling a colossal nervous system. This was the Anima Mundi, the soul of the world, where Gaia's consciousness resided .

As the group attempted to follow Aries through the portal, a sudden surge of energy disrupted their path. The portal shimmered and collapsed, leaving them stranded.

"The Space Stone's influence at Gaia's nexus is too strong," Aries explained, his voice tinged with urgency. "We must take a different route."

He led them along a rugged coastal path, the ocean's waves crashing against the cliffs beside them. The journey was arduous, the terrain challenging, but the group's determination never wavered.

As they walked, the environment began to change. The air grew thick with energy, and the ground beneath their feet pulsed with a rhythmic beat. They had reached Gaia's nexus.

The area was dominated by a massive crystalline structure, glowing with an ethereal light. This was the heart of Gaia, the embodiment of Earth's consciousness.

As they traversed the rugged coastal path toward Gaia's nexus, the tranquility of the ocean was shattered by a sudden ambush.

As they approached the crystalline nexus, the tranquility of the ocean was shattered by a sudden ambush. From the shadows emerged a formidable force: 200 Subterraneans, 10 towering Kronans, and 20 molten Lava Men. Their eyes glowed with hostility, and their weapons gleamed menacingly under the sun.

Aries, the God of War, assessed the situation with a cold gaze. "Hold them off," he commanded. "I will retrieve the heart." Without waiting for a response, he vanished into the distance, leaving the heroes to face the onslaught alone.

Tony, ever the strategist, quickly recalibrated his suit's systems. "Switching to cryobiums," he muttered, as the beams from his repulsors shifted from a glowing blue to a darker shade. He dashed toward the Lava Men, cutting through one with precision, then delivering a powerful punch to another, sending it crashing into its comrade. Launching into the air, he executed a spinning dropkick, shattering the third's molten head.

As a fourth Lava Man advanced on Tony's exposed back, Arden instinctively brought his hands together, unleashing a sparkling white beam. After a few seconds of contact, the Lava Man's head exploded, startling Tony but not halting his momentum.

Arden, recognizing his role as both defender and attacker, drew the new pistols designed by Howard. He charged into the fray of Subterraneans, landing precise headshots that left a thin red trail. By the time he reached the center of the group, he had already taken out 40 adversaries.

Hawkeye provided cover, picking off enemies poised to strike his allies and landing critical shots when needed.

Captain America grappled with the towering Kronans, their strength and size presenting a formidable challenge. Recalling Thor's tales, he knew their weakness lay in their faces. Unable to exert enough force alone, he called out to Snow, Arden's apprentice.

"Take everything you can; leave the rest to me."

Snow responded by drastically lowering the ambient temperature around the Kronans. Their stone bodies began to frost over, becoming brittle. Though Cap was also affected by the cold, he remained undeterred.

"Thanks, kid. Don't worry about me," he said, dashing forward to strike three Kronans in the knees with his shield, each blow precise and calculated.

In the distance, a voice bellowed, "Banner, we spoke of this! Stop being a coward!" Hulk shouted, emerging as Banner's body transformed into a deep shade of green.

Landing amidst the Kronans attacking Captain America, Hulk delivered a powerful punch to Cap's shield, propelling him 40 feet into the air. Hulk then unleashed a series of devastating blows, shattering the Kronans with assistance from Snow's freezing effect.

Smiling at the remaining Subterraneans and Lava Men, now reduced to a mere handful, Hulk leaped high into the air. He landed with a thunderous crash, sending the enemies sprawling. Swiftly, he struck each one, sending them tumbling into others behind them.

The tide of battle was turning. The heroes began to hope that Aries could aid Gaia in time.

A crackling surge of blue energy erupted from the cave mouth. It was precise, focused, and deadly. Aries reappeared, barely evading the bolt as it lanced past him. Only Banner saw what followed.

Hawkeye, caught mid-draw, was struck by the beam. His body dissolved into blue sparkles, vanishing into nothingness.

Tony froze. Natasha shouted his name. Arden clenched his fists, his aura pulsing with temporal stress. The frost-touched boy took a step forward, his breath visible even in the warmth of battle.

And deep within Gaia's crystalline heart, something ancient stirred.
