Once inside, he gently set me down on the velvet-cushioned chair near the central table. Then, picked up a remote from a nearby shelf, he clicked a button. To my surprise, the horrific paintings that had hung around the room...those horror bleeding portraits and tortured faces slid back into the walls, vanishing behind smooth panels. White cloths descended from the ceiling like veils, covering the canvas art still on display, softening the atmosphere with eerie precision.
"I'm sorry for scaring you," Knox said at last, finally settling into a chair across from me. "Doctor Simon already informed all of us alphas to keep you away from anything that could trigger shock. And yet… that's exactly what I just did."
