"Take me with you," Selene said quickly, the words tumbling out before she could stop them.
Lucian paused, briefcase halfway to his shoulder. "Excuse me?"
"Take me to your home. That's what I want." The request hung in the air between them, bold and ridiculous and somehow perfect. She wanted to see where he lived, what his space looked like when he wasn't performing the role of the intimidating professor. Did he have family photos? Did he even have a normal life outside these walls?
"I'm afraid that's not…" He started to refuse, but his expression shifted. His jaw tightened, and for a moment, he looked almost trapped. "That's not appropriate, Miss Blackwood."
"Why not?" She stood and walked toward him, emboldened by his obvious discomfort. "You made a bet. I won. Fair and square."
He set his briefcase down and ran a hand through his hair, messing up his perfect styling. She could practically see him wrestling with himself.
