The side of her lip stretched into an evil smirk.
This was because of what she had just laid her eyes on. "I believe that the reason you canceled this marriage is because of your beautiful ex right here," her voice echoed in the room, alarming both the man and the woman sleeping beside each other of her presence.
Unfortunately for Adalyn, the man on the bed with another woman was her fiancée.
The guilty man upon hearing her voice, ran out of the bed half-naked, shocked to see her in his room without hearing any sound of her coming.
"Look at you," her voice was calm and steady as if what she just witnessed was so normal.
"Adalyn," he grabbed her arm so he could drag her out of the room in an attempt to speak to her about what she saw.
At first when Adalyn learnt from her parents that her fiancé had canceled the wedding, she didn't believe and couldn't contain such news, so she drove all the way from her house to face him and when she saw him with his ex, she surprisingly wasn't shocked.
It was a wonder that she wasn't shaken by what she saw about her fiancé as she had been paranoid as she drove to his house to confirm that he didn't want her anymore.
However, here she was standing in the room with a clear expression, accepting the situation the way it was and now she knew that the bastard who had just broken her heart was about to explain why it all happened.
'He never loved you,' a voice whispered in her head and continued ringing and ringing in her head as if she would forget what the voice had just said.
Adalyn pulled her hand out his hold. With a smile that was doing a great job in hiding her pain, she removed her gaze from the lady on the bed and looked him in the eyes. She loved this man so much; he was her dream.
John was terrified by the way she smiled, causing him to swallow hard. They stared at each other for a moment but while Adalyn was smiling, he was shivering.
Yes, she was dangerous.
"Why?" she simply asked, breaking the silence and still smiling like what he did wasn't such a big deal and that it didn't almost drive her insane in her car as she drove to his home.
He looked away like a frustrated man and as if summoning the courage he needed, he finally opened his mouth to say something. "You are difficult to handle, Adalyn," he uttered. "I can't tolerate you anymore and I can't keep on lying about my feelings for you when I actually don't feel anything for you."
No lie, his words hurt her so much that she could burst into tears right in front of him, but she wasn't doing that because it would destroy her ego.
She simply scoffed, her hand clenching into a fist. The more it hurt Adalyn, the angrier she became. She could already see herself punching his face so much that blood was covering his whole face. She had done worse before and doing it again wouldn't cost her anything.
She would do it with pleasure but what she didn't understand was why she was hesitating to destroy the man's face.
Seeing him looking so innocent and victimized made her mad. Her smile disappeared as she clenched her teeth.
"She's not difficult to handle," Adalyn said after a minute of silence.
"She isn't crazy, Adalyn. She isn't a psychopath like you! For fuck sake!" He sighed, watching Adalyn keenly as he was expecting her to do something.
Her face became void of expression but inside her were falling apart. He was the first man she had ever wanted this much but he just couldn't love her.
'Nobody can love a monster like you,' that voice came again in Adalyn's head. 'This is who you are so face it!'
"What…are you going to do?" He asked when he noticed how silent she was.
"Are you scared?" Adalyn grinned.
"Who smiles this widely about their marriage just got canceled?" asked John.
Adalyn ignored him and walked to the woman lying on the bed.
John watched what she was going to do to his girlfriend only to realize that he never told Adalyn that the woman in his bed was once his ex. How come she knew about that?
This was why he couldn't get married to her. She was scary but whenever he spoke to her about it, she acted differently like she was possessed by some supernatural stuff.
He went after Adalyn because he feared that she would kill the woman on his bed but he was wrong, she only handed the ring he gave her when he proposed to his girlfriend.
"Why are you scared, boy?" She glanced at him with that mischievous smile and placed her hand on his shoulder. "You such a baby," she pulled his cheek and turned to the lady. "It's not my loss…" she paused. "It's yours," and whispered to her.
The next moment she was out of John's house.
Adalyn, as though she wasn't hurt went back home, humming a particular song–a song that the real Adalyn had never heard about.
The next morning, when Adalyn woke up, she rushed to John's house only to find out that he had moved. She remembered calling him over and over last night and also remembered going to his house but he next thing she knew was waking up in bed.
When she returned home, she fell into bed and burst into tears, her heart hurting like crazy. The pain couldn't be compared to physical pain, not in any way.
She couldn't stop wondering why John would cancel his marriage with her and disappear without a goodbye or a reason. He had blocked her in every place she could contact him.
Moments later, she was still in her bed, laying on her stomach with her head on the pillow she surrounded her arms with, staring into space…her mind blank.
Adalyn did not know what was going on with her but the fact that she was an ex to John just didn't sit well with her because she loved him and didn't expect things to turn out the way it did with her previous fiancees.
Her parents, Erica and Philip entered the room to see her sulking, caring less about if she was depressed by what she had passed through with her recent relationship.
Instead they were scared of how her bad luck might affect them as this was the fifth marriage that was canceled by her fiancées.
The first man said the same thing as the others that they couldn't handle a lady like Adalyn, declaring that she was ugly, she couldn't turn them on, and she was hard to reason with.
Her parents were fed up but immediately John sent that letter to them yesterday, they found their daughter another husband as they were so eager to get rid of her.
They were also planning to pass all their wealth to Adalyn's younger sister because they felt she was the better child.
They approached her. "Come on, get up," Adalyn's mother uttered the moment she saw her daughter laying lost in the bed.
Adalyn, at first, didn't move a muscle until she received taps on her leg. "Get up, child!" Her mother exclaimed this time.
Adalyn sat up and glanced at her parents who were hovering around her as though she were their only problem.
"What is it?" She asked, feeling irritated, annoyed and frustrated and her expression didn't hide it nor did her voice. Adalyn lay in bed again
"You are not allowed to sulk around because of a man. It's happening 5th time so you should be used to it," Erica pulled Adalyn out of the bed.
"Well, the 5th is different because…" she sighed. Her eyes and face were swollen. She looked sick but Mr and Mrs Rose didn't care. All they wanted was to send her out of their house not to end up in another house but a man's house.
"...he is the man I was ever allowed to date, the rest were arranged by you," she said, her voice lacking strength.
"All that matters is that you get married," Philips, Adalyn's father said.
This made Adalyn drift her gaze to him. She let her shoulders down in defeat, finally letting it go as she wondered to herself why she was trying to convince her parents about them being wrong when it was pointless. They happened to have the final say in her life every time.
They chose the course she studied in university and even the job she got engaged in and now they wanted to choose the man she should get married to.
Why should she fight it when it looked like everything she ever owned was lost?
"Well, we are here to let you know that there's a man who's ready to get married to you despite your bad reputation."
