Fubuki Kakuyoku deployed the flight apparatus on her back, soaring through the air. Even when someone fired a surprise arrow at her, she effortlessly dodged it with her ninjutsu.
As a core member of Dotō Kazahana's Snow Ninja forces, Fubuki's strength was undeniable.
She had followed Dotō through underground tunnels, bypassing the layers of defenses outside, and infiltrated the heart of the palace.
But the guards were no fools. The slightest disturbance would catch their attention, let alone the violent crashing sounds and surges of water erupting from within the palace. If they failed to notice something amiss under these circumstances, they might as well set out a bowl on the street and beg for alms.
Just as they prepared to storm the palace, Fubuki appeared atop the castle walls.
No one had expected someone to be flying overhead, giving her the perfect opportunity to unleash multiple ninjutsu attacks, dismantling the rifle squad.
After that, even if a few stray arrows were shot her way, they were nothing more than sporadic, feeble attempts.
Thus, a one-sided aerial assault rained down upon the ground.
At the same time, a massive ninja soared over the castle walls—his weapon wasn't a flight apparatus, but a snowboard. Behind him followed an endless stream of Snow Ninjas and soldiers.
Chaos erupted between the two sides, but Fubuki, with her aerial advantage, specifically targeted the most aggressive enemy units.
Even though the soldiers and ninjas outside the walls held a numerical advantage, they still couldn't break through the defenders' formation.
"Hahaha… Your lord has already been killed! Why keep resisting? Surrender now, or you'll lose your chance! If I catch you, every last one of you will be executed!" Fubuki cackled wildly.
"Nonsense! A traitor like you has no right to speak!" Sandayū pointed his sword at Fubuki in the sky.
He wasn't a child—he wouldn't be fooled by such obvious lies.
"Shut up! If you want to die, I'll send you on your way!" Fubuki waved her hand, hurling several kunai with explosive tags attached straight at Sandayū.
After blasting the area below into disarray, she immediately sought out her next target.
"Hey, Fuyukuma, is it just me, or is there suddenly fog?" Fubuki, high in the air, was particularly sensitive to changes in visibility. The distant landscape had already begun to blur, drastically reducing the effectiveness of her attacks.
"Yeah!"
The giant ninja roared, hurling an enemy aside.
For Fuyukuma, the fog wasn't as much of a hindrance—he only fought those he could see.
But as time passed, the mist grew thicker, to the point where one could barely see their own hand in front of their face. Even Fuyukuma began to feel the impact.
Then, screams erupted in the distance.
"Run! A flood is coming!"
Terrified shrieks followed.
Fog? A flood?
Fuyukuma froze for a moment before tilting his head up and shouting, "Watch out! Mist Ninjas are here!"
No sooner had he spoken than a massive surge of water crashed into him. He stumbled back a few steps before losing his footing entirely, swallowed by the raging current.
"Fuyukuma—!" Fubuki called out twice from the sky, but when no response came, she assumed he had been swept away.
The world around her was now a gray haze, as if she had been cut off from reality. She could only rely on sound to gauge her surroundings.
As the screams faded, it seemed the flood below had receded as well.
A standard Water Release technique. Otherwise, it wouldn't have come so suddenly and retreated so quickly.
But… who had done this?
Fubuki frowned, scanning the fog in confusion—until a voice suddenly whispered in her ear:
"There's one left up here… Get down!"
Her heart lurched. Before she could process what was happening, a screeching noise erupted from her flight apparatus. Then, her body plummeted, crashing violently into the ground.
"Hmph… How did that punk know someone was flying up here? Weird." Zabuza landed lightly before vanishing back into the mist without a trace.

…
By the time the fog began spreading through the air, an exhausted Mei Terumī finally felt a surge of energy.
The three of them had held out until now, but they were all nearing their limits—some more than others.
Kurenai was the weakest of the trio, and her skills leaned heavily toward support.
Large-scale battles were not her forte.
Under the relentless assault of the enemy, she was the first to reach exhaustion, barely able to defend herself, let alone counterattack.
As a result, the duty of protecting Sōsetsu fell to her.
Mei and Asuma coordinated their efforts—one attacking from a distance, the other defending up close—holding off dozens of Snow Ninjas.
But a ninja's chakra was finite. Even Mei couldn't sustain prolonged ninjutsu usage. Most of the time, she had to rely on Asuma's close-range defense to buy herself breathing room before striking back. Because of this, she hadn't dared to use her Boil Release or Lava Release.
For one, those kekkei genkai didn't have the same range as Water Release. Secondly, they consumed far more chakra.
And so, the three of them barely clung on—even as they were forced into a corner.
But when the fog appeared, Mei shouted, rallying herself before calling out to the others:
"Midorima and the others must be back. This is the Water Release: Hiding in Mist Technique. Zabuza specializes in it, and Midorima can use it too."
Asuma, who had also been showing signs of fatigue, perked up at her words.
"Heh, then we'd better get our act together. Can't let them look down on us."
A faint smile appeared on Kurenai's face. "But holding out until they arrive won't be easy, will it?"
Sōsetsu's eyes finally gleamed with hope. "What about my daughter, Koyuki… Is she alright?"
"We'll only know once they return."
Meanwhile, Dotō, who had been relentlessly pressuring the trio, found himself in a dilemma. Despite his prolonged assault, he still hadn't broken through. Frustrated, he grabbed one of his ninjas and pointed at the four in the corner, snarling:
"Burn them! I want them dead!"
"My lord, they're Water Release users—and highly skilled ones at that."
"…" Dotō's eye twitched before he shoved the ninja aside. "Useless! Must I do everything myself?!"
"B-But—"
"Get out of my sight!" Dotō stormed forward, peering through the mist. The dim light still allowed him to make out the silhouettes of his enemies.
No more delays. This ends now!
If he could just kill these three ninjas, the rest would be powerless against him.
Dotō swiftly formed hand signs. "Ice Release: Black Dragon—"
"Hey, anyone up ahead? If so, move aside!"
A sudden shout from behind broke Dotō's concentration, disrupting his technique. Enraged, he whirled around. "Who dares—?!"
Then—something slammed into his chest.
He was sent flying back two or three hundred feet before crashing to the ground. Meanwhile, the figure who had collided with him flipped midair and landed safely.
"Huh… Did I hit something just now?" The man scratched his head, puzzled.
Mei's eyes welled with tears as she recognized him. "Midorima…!"
"I'm here." Midorima took a deep breath before flashing a thumbs-up. "You all did great. We completed our mission too. Now… let's end this ugly battle."
