Ripped from his slumber, the god was immediatly in a bad mood.
He got up and quickly scanned his surroundings: a tavern, a huge barbarian standing right infront of him.
The god could feel that something was different this time from the last time. Something had awakened in this mortal shell.
Something that felt very familiar was now trapped in this body just as he was.
He could feel it coursing through his veins:
Sleep.
Closing his eyes, the deity felt it all around him, behind him, infront of him, slightly to the left, small clouds of consciousness.
"Want some more?"
The voice pierced his peace like the stinger of an insect, insignificant and annoying.
He growled.
To test this newly found weapon, he shot forward and burried his fist in the man's stomach with enough force to lift him into the air a few centimeters.
For just a few moments, he cluld see the suprise in the brute's face.
In the moment his fist connected, all the man's consciousness was drained and flowed into the mind of the deity.
Maybe he had done a little to much.
But it was of no importance anyways.
The man now sank to the floor and curled together like a baby, slumbering.
"Who the hell are you?"
The voice came from behind, it sounded like a young girl, maybe fourteen?
The boys body turned around,so the god could get a better look of who was so boldly questioning him here.
"I have no name, but many have called upon me as Hypnos, god of sleep."
He could tell his words had left an impression by the shocked face of the little girl.
"G...god? Why are you posessing my friend?"
"Oh, this...hull? To tell you what brought me here exceeds even my capabilities."
"Will he...come back?"
She gulped again, she was visibly nervous.
"You are asking a lot of questions and I am pretty tired. Are there any free rooms?", the god demanded.
"Y...yes you two can take number thirtytwo and thirtythree."
A squeeky voice sounded from under the counter.
He started marching to were he suspected the rooms to be, the girl following with a bit of distance.
———
Thessa was shocked. She had heard about the existence of gods, but to actually see one in person, no, to see one posess her newfound friend...this was insane!
He had knocked the man unconscious with a single punch.
Or maybe..?
She gulped.
Could the man maybe even be dead?
The sound of the punch had been sickening.
She shook off the scary thought and simply trailed him at a wary distance.
At least now they had rooms.
A god. That also explained the fact that Somnius was able to use magic.
The magic of a god. There were very few sorts more powerful than that, at least from what she had heard.
To make the basilisk fall asleep was unbelieveble.
For a normal human, that was.
God-Sprouts were rare, but not unheard of. The fragility of the human mind often caused them to die shortly after the birth of the god within them.
If they survived they made for a powerful symbiosis. Some even achieved true godhood.
Thessa wasn't sure yet, wether or not she liked the fact that a god lived in the head of her friend. Especially when the god was so...short tempered.
She thought back to the man back at the bar, she thought about the basilisk.
'To think he could grow far stronger. I have to learn how to use magic. And I need to do so quickly.'
Lost in thought, Thessa bumped into the back of Somnius or rather his body, she jumped back: "Sorry! I'm sorry! It was an accident!"
She raised her hands in an apologetic gesture, shock written on her face.
The god simply laughed.
"You seem to be somehow friends with this vessel, so I shall not smite you with eternal slumber, for now."
'How generous...', Thessa sarcastically thought.
"Does this mean, the man at the counter will never wake up again?"
Instead of giving a clear answer, the god just shrugged: "I am not sure how much I took. Mabye he'll be back in a few hours. Maybe never. Who knows?"
And with that, he turned to his door and left her standing on the hallway alone.
———
A loud knocking noise awakened her the next day. She hurried to the door and ripped it open, it may have been the god.
Even though the body was the one the god had posessed, something about him had changed.
Thessa was certain, that this was not the god, but her friend again.
Just to make sure she cautiously asked:
"Somnius?"
"Yeah? Who else am I supposed to be?"
The weight of the entire tower fell off her shoulders.
