Chapter 12 - The encounter with the angry boss

As I lingered over the last moments of my meal,my curiosity got the better of me. Why did Jake and Sophia leave the staff ,what was she telling him ? My gaze wandered around the staff room, and that's when I saw her – Miss Lily, standing across the room, her eyes locked onto mine with a subtle smile. Our gazes met, and I smiled back. She nodded graciously, as if acknowledging a secret understanding between us.

"The young master requests your presence," she said, her voice a gentle melody that filled the space between us. I rose from my seat, smoothing out my imaginary creases in my uniform as I followed her out of the staff room. The silence that accompanied us was comfortable, yet palpable with unspoken tension.

As we walked, the soft glow of the hallway lights cast a warm ambiance over us, illuminating the elegant decor. The scent of blooming flowers wafted through the air, mingling with the sweet scent of polished wood. Every step felt deliberate, as if we were savoring the moment, the silence between us thick with anticipation.

Miss Lily's presence was captivating, her poise and elegance drawing me in like a magnet. I couldn't help but steal glances at her, my heart skipping a beat as our eyes met. The air seemed to vibrate with tension, and I felt myself getting lost in the depths of her gaze.

"Is the meeting happening now?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, breaking the spell. Miss Lily's smile was bright , her eyes sparkling with secrets. "Not yet ..you are still early ,best of luck child" she replied, her voice soft and mysterious. I felt my heart drop as I stared at the study door .

As Miss Lily opened the door, I stepped into the room, my eyes adjusted to the brighter light. The air was thick with tension, and I could sense a storm brewing. Young Master Jacob sat behind his massive desk, his piercing grey sapphire eyes flashing with anger. His chiseled features were twisted in a scowl, and his dark curly hair was disheveled, as if he'd been running his hands aggressively through it. The scents of old books and leather filled the air Mingling with the faint smell of his cologne and wood ,

Miss Lily's demeanor changed instantly. Her poise and elegance gave way to a hint of wariness, and she almost semi-ran away from the door once she opened it. "Good luck, child," she whispered, her voice barely audible, before she swiftly retreated and closed the door behind me.

I felt a shiver run down my spine as Young Master Jacob's gaze locked onto mine. The room seemed to shrink, and I was acutely aware of the silence between us. "Come in, Jennie," he growled, his deep voice low and menacing. "Don't just stand there like lost kitten, I didn't hire you to become your babysitter ."

I took a deep breath and stepped forward, my heart pounding in my chest. What had I gotten myself into?

As I stood in the office, I noticed Mr. Reg standing beside the young master's desk, his expression a mask of professionalism. His piercing orange-yellow eyes gleamed with amusement, and his polite smile hinted at something deeper. I wondered what secrets lay behind his eyes. However, his eyes sparkled with a knowing glint as he greeted me. "Ah, Jennie, I'm here to prepare you for the meeting. I trust you can read and cram quickly." He said sarcastically

The young master's anger and frustration were evident, and Mr. Reg's calm demeanor seemed to be the only thing holding him back from erupting. "You're late, we have less than an hour for you to figure out an entire presentation and what to do as a secretary," the young master growled, his deep voice menacing.

"My apologies, Young Master Jacob," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. "I didn't mean to keep you waiting."

Mr. Reg cleared his throat, his eyes flicking towards the young master. "Perhaps we should focus on the task at hand, Young Master Jacob? Jennie, let me brief you on the presentation. It's a quarterly review of our company's financials. You'll need to present the figures and highlight key areas of growth."

The young master's gaze narrowed, but he seemed to rein in his temper. "Very well. Jennie, I've been reviewing your background file, and I must say, I'm underwhelmed. Mr. Reg, it seems Miss Lily's...protege has a lot to prove."

Mr. Reg's expression remained neutral, but his voice was laced with a hint of apology. "I'll make sure Jennie understands the importance of meeting your expectations, Young Master Jacob. I've prepared all the slides and the presentation file is on her desk. With her fancy degree, I'm sure she knows how to handle meetings and cram everything."

The young master's gaze lingered on me, his eyes flashing with anger. "See that she does, Mr. Reg. I expect nothing but perfection. Or else..."

Mr. Reg nodded, his smile dropped. "Of course, Young Master Jacob. I'll ensure Jennie meets your expectations."

"Let's get started, Jennie," Mr. Reg said, handing me a folder filled with documents. "You'll need to review the financials and be prepared to answer questions. Young Master Jacob, I'll make sure Jennie is well-prepared for the meeting."

The young master nodded curtly, his eyes still fixed on me. "I'll be watching you, Jennie. Don't disappoint me."

As Mr. Reg led me to the desk, I felt a sense of determination rising within me. I would prove myself, no matter what it took.

"Let's review the presentation, Jennie," Mr. Reg said, his voice calm and soothing. "I'll walk you through the key points and make sure you're prepared for any questions."

I nodded, taking a deep breath as I began to review the documents. I was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. As I reviewed the presentation with Mr. Reg, I felt a sense of clarity wash over me. The numbers and figures began to make sense, and I started to see the bigger picture,We were pitching to investors about one of the boss new business that needed investments .
