Chapter 34 - Usato Vs. Alpha Dark Wolf

As Usato shifted his stance, the nanobots around his hand reformed into a longer, more agile spear. The Alpha Wolf, momentarily taken aback by the sudden change in his opponent's weapon, used the split second to assess Usato. This one is different, Usato thought, his focus solely on the dangerous predator. Its speed and predatory instincts are far beyond the initial pack.

The Alpha Wolf didn't give him much time to contemplate. With a low growl that vibrated through the ground, it feinted to the left, then lunged with incredible speed towards Usato's right flank. Anticipating this, Usato reacted instantly. Spear Defense. The nanobot spear extended, meeting the Alpha's charge head-on. Instead of trying to pierce the thick fur, Usato used the shaft of the spear to redirect the wolf's momentum, pushing it slightly off balance.

Before the Alpha could recover, Usato's internal command shifted again. Daggers. In a blink, the spear dissolved, and a pair of wickedly sharp, serrated daggers materialized in his hands. He moved with surprising fluidity, mirroring the Alpha's agility, and slashed downwards, aiming for the unprotected underbelly. The Alpha Wolf, however, was equally swift. It twisted in mid-air, its powerful hind legs pushing off the ground, narrowly avoiding the full brunt of the attack. The daggers only managed to rake across its chest, leaving two bleeding furrows.

A furious snarl ripped from the Alpha's throat. It landed with a powerful thud, its eyes burning with even greater intensity. It circled Usato, its gaze never leaving his.

Meanwhile, the battlefield around them was a flurry of motion. Kael, his nanobot bastard sword a blur, was locked in a fierce struggle with one of the Ferocious Dark Wolves. The wolf was strong and relentless, but Kael's determination, fueled by the need to protect his people, allowed him to parry its attacks and find openings for his own strikes.

Gorthok, a whirlwind of youthful strength, used his nanobot shield to bull-rush another wolf, sending it stumbling backwards. He followed up with a powerful swing of his warhammer, the impact echoing through the gorge. The wolf yelped in pain but quickly regained its footing, its primal fury evident in its narrowed eyes and bared teeth.

Vala, a shadow moving through the chaos, darted around the wolves, her nanobot short sword flashing. Her movements were efficient and deadly, targeting weak points and exploiting any opening in the wolves' defenses. Her experience as a hunter was clearly evident in her precise and economical fighting style.

From her vantage point on a rocky outcrop, Syka maintained a steady stream of nanobot arrows. Each arrow found its mark with surprising accuracy, even against the agile movements of the wolves. Her sharp eyes tracked their every move, providing crucial ranged support and preventing any of the wolves from breaking away to attack the more vulnerable members of the tribe.

Even Elara, though not a warrior, played a vital role. She moved swiftly among the fighting tribesmen, her hands glowing with a faint green light as she administered quick healing to those who sustained minor injuries. Her presence provided a much-needed boost to the tribe's morale, knowing their healer was close by.

Ren, fighting with a grim determination, used his reinforced branch and makeshift shield to protect the younger members of the tribe, guiding their movements and ensuring they weren't overwhelmed by the Ferocious Beasts. Kana, though initially terrified, fought with newfound courage alongside Rela, both using sharpened branches to jab at the wolves' flanks, their earlier fear replaced by a fierce desire to defend their tribe.

Usato, still locked in his intense duel with the Alpha Wolf, risked a quick glance at the surrounding battle. He felt a surge of pride seeing the tribe members fighting with such courage and coordination. They're holding their own, he thought. But his attention was immediately pulled back to the far more dangerous opponent before him. The Alpha Wolf was no ordinary beast, and Usato knew this fight would be far from over.

Usato, with his senses heightened, continued his intricate dance with the Alpha Wolf. He observed the subtle shifts in the creature's weight, the almost imperceptible flick of its ear, the slight tensing of its powerful muscles before an attack. He noticed a pattern, a momentary lapse in its otherwise relentless assault – a fleeting instant where its focus wavered as it anticipated his next move.

That's it! Usato thought, recognizing the opportunity. It was a sliver of a chance, but enough for his purpose. Channeling his focus, he gathered his energy. As the Alpha Wolf lunged again, aiming for his throat, Usato moved with lightning speed, executing his honed technique: "Sudden Strike"!!

It wasn't a flashy move, but a precise and brutally efficient strike. Using the momentum of the Alpha's attack against it, Usato sidestepped at the last moment, his nanobot daggers flashing in a swift, upward arc. The razor-sharp blades tore through the Alpha's thick fur and muscle, leaving a deep, gaping wound along its flank, just behind its ribs.

A bellow of pure, unadulterated rage erupted from the Alpha Wolf. It was a sound that clawed at the very air, filled with pain, fury, and disbelief. The force of the roar was almost physical, washing over the battlefield like a shockwave.

Instantly, the chaotic symphony of combat ground to a halt. Every tribesman and every remaining Dark Wolf froze, their attention snapped towards the wounded Alpha. They stared in stunned silence at the crimson staining the Alpha's dark fur, the deep gash a testament to the seemingly impossible: a human had severely injured their powerful leader.

For a heartbeat, only the Alpha's ragged breathing and the faint hum of Sky's nanobots around Usato could be heard. Then, a spark of renewed hope ignited in the eyes of the Evergreen Tribe members. Witnessing the Alpha Wolf, the seemingly insurmountable threat, bleed and bellow in pain, filled them with a surge of adrenaline and a fierce resurgence of fighting spirit.

With a collective roar of defiance, the tribesmen surged forward, their makeshift weapons now wielded with newfound vigor and energy. Kael's strikes became faster, Gorthok's hammer blows heavier, Vala's movements more precise, and Syka's arrows flew with deadly accuracy. Even the younger members fought with a ferocity they hadn't possessed moments before.

The reaction among the remaining Dark Wolves was starkly different. They had witnessed their powerful leader, the one who commanded their every move, brought low by a single, swift attack. A visible wave of nervousness rippled through their ranks. Their earlier coordinated assaults faltered, replaced by hesitant snarls and uneasy glances at their wounded Alpha, their own ferocity visibly diminished.

The tide of the battle had irrevocably shifted. Usato's "Sudden Strike"!! had not only wounded the Alpha Wolf but had also struck a crucial blow to the morale of its pack while simultaneously igniting a fierce determination within the Evergreen Tribe. The fight was far from over, but for the first time since the Alpha's arrival, victory seemed within reach.
