"Where are you going?" Gael asked when he saw Andrea all dressed up. Kristen stood nearby, holding baby Kai in her arms.
Andrea smiled mischievously. "Did you forget it's your sister's birthday today?"
Gael's eyes moved from her face down to her bare shoulder, and his gaze lingered for a moment before looking at Kai. The baby was already staring at him, and the moment their eyes met, Kai started crying loudly.
Andrea quickly took Kai from Kristen, holding him close.
"Shh, don't cry," she whispered gently. "Mommy's just going out for a few hours."
But Kai didn't stop crying.
"Give him to me," Gael said suddenly.
Andrea stared at him, surprised. After that day when he offered to take care of Kai so she could rest, he had gone back to ignoring the baby.
She reluctantly handed Kai to Gael, and the moment Kai entered his uncle's hand, his tears stopped.
Gael focused his attention on the baby, who was now looking at him with his little mouth open.
