Boom! Boom! Boom!
"..."
You Xuan stood outside the bar, watching as the dark duelists inside were already sprawled across the floor in a matter of moments. He couldn't help but feel at a loss for words.
How should he put it...?
Though he had expected Seto Kaiba to effortlessly crush these guys, he hadn't anticipated it would be this extreme. It reminded him of the scene in the anime where Manjoume first arrived at the Northern Campus of Duel Academy and blitzed through the entire student body in under a minute.
This was the kind of exaggerated dominance you'd see when the main characters annihilated unnamed extras in the show. Back then, as a kid watching TV, You Xuan had genuinely thought that dueling didn't require shuffling cards. He excitedly tried to educate his friends about this groundbreaking discovery and confidently played his unbeatable Exodia deck without shuffling.
And then... well, he quickly found himself without anyone willing to play with him anymore.
But honestly, it wasn't entirely his fault. In the anime, it really didn't look like they shuffled their decks, especially during scenes where the protagonists crushed random opponents. Each duel seemed more absurd than the last.
Just like what Kaiba was doing right now.
"Strong! Invincible! The Best!"
Kaiba stood amidst the fallen duelists, arms crossed, a smug grin on his face.
"Anyone else?!"
By now, only three people remained standing on the opposing side.
Yamaguchi Ryosuke, the middle-parted leader: "Damn it… I knew he was the legendary Seto Kaiba, but I never expected him to be this overwhelming. In the blink of an eye, only the 'Blood Moon Four Heavenly Kings' are left..."
Inoue Kazumi, the beautiful bartender: "Correction—make that the Three Heavenly Kings. Fujimoto from the Four Kings has already defected."
Ryosuke: "..."
Fujimoto, pleading earnestly: "Guys, just give up already. Don't struggle. President Kaiba asked me to relay this message: surrender immediately and favorable treatment awaits..."
Akaike Takuya, the giant among the Four Kings, suddenly exploded in rage: "I'll strangle you first, you traitor!"
Fujimoto quickly ducked behind Kaiba, clearly showing where his loyalty lay.
"Hmph," Kaiba sneered, arms still crossed. "So you're the remaining three of this so-called Four Heavenly Kings? You should at least be slightly stronger than the other cannon fodder."
He looked them over dismissively. "Who's going first? Or do all three of you want to come at me together?"
The trio's eyes lit up at his words.
Was this really happening?
One-on-one, they had no chance. But three-on-one? Even if Kaiba was as strong as everyone said, surely he couldn't take down all three of them at once!
"Alright, it's settled then—a fair and square three-on-one!" one of them declared boldly.
You Xuan wanted to roll his eyes. Fair and square? Three-on-one?
He had to admit, Kaiba's confidence was something to admire. In real-life Yu-Gi-Oh!, there were single duels and team duels, but a three-on-one match was unheard of. The game simply wasn't designed that way. The sheer difference in card advantage, field presence, and even turn count made such a scenario nearly impossible to balance.
But in anime, the protagonists often took on groups of three or four opponents—and utterly demolished them.
From what You Xuan had read online, some fans theorized that characters in the anime possessed something called "Destiny Power"—a supernatural ability that allowed duelists to influence fate and shape the outcome of a duel. However, this power worked relatively. If one duelist had stronger Destiny Power, it could suppress their opponent's performance. This explained why important characters always seemed to draw perfect hands and win instantly against weaker opponents, while high-level duels between skilled players felt much more balanced.
So in this world, rather than worrying about whether an opponent had powerful monsters or a strong deck, You Xuan paid more attention to their Destiny Power. After all, the big monsters revered by duelers in this era weren't particularly impressive compared to the overpowered cards from the modern Yu-Gi-Oh! games he was familiar with—they weren't that much stronger.
However, Destiny Power was a game-breaking ability that could elevate even a mediocre deck to extraordinary heights.
To put it simply: in the mainstream Yu-Gi-Oh! meta of later years, setting up a board state capable of disrupting your opponent multiple times during their turn—destroying cards, negating effects, and so on—was considered solid. And achieving such a setup often required overcoming numerous obstacles and executing long chains of plays.
But in this world, when there was a significant gap in Destiny Power between duelists, the stronger side could achieve similar results with minimal effort. For example, drawing just three or five trap cards with effects akin to "Divine Warning" (which negates various actions) and summoning a high-attack monster could easily dominate the field—even with an outdated deck.
In other words, while real-life dueling focused more on deck strength, in this environment, the duelists' personal strength mattered just as much.
Alright, so let's watch how Kaiba handles this situation.
Though You Xuan figured Kaiba probably wouldn't lose, he was still curious how he'd overcome the resource disadvantage of facing three opponents at once.
A one-versus-three duel—this was the perfect opportunity to observe firsthand how a powerful duelist's Destiny Power manifested.
"Duel!" x4
[Ryosuke, LP 4000]
[Kazumi, LP 4000]
[Akaike, LP 4000]
[Kaiba, LP 4000]
"My turn, draw," Kaiba said calmly. "During the first turn in a free-for-all, no attacks can be made. I'll set two cards face-down and end my turn."
The trio sucked in a breath.
Was he serious? Facing three opponents, and he started the duel without summoning any monsters?
"Tch, such arrogance will cost you dearly, Seto Kaiba. My turn, draw!"
First up was Ryosuke, the middle-parted leader of the Four Heavenly Kings.
"I summon Captain Rush!" Ryosuke announced. "Captain Rush's effect activates. When this card is successfully summoned, I can special summon a Level 4 or lower monster from my hand."
A smirk spread across his face as he revealed another card.
"And the monster I'm summoning is... another Captain Rush!"
[Captain Rush, ATK 1200] x2
"I see," Kaiba said coolly. "An attack lock, is it?"
"Precisely," Ryosuke replied smugly. "As long as Captain Rush is on the field, you can't attack any Warrior-type monsters other than itself. And when there are two copies of Captain Rush on the field..."
"Their effects protect each other, meaning neither can attack. Thus, your attacks are locked." Kaiba finished his explanation indifferently. "Is that all?"
"Not quite," Ryosuke retorted. "I'll set one card face-down and end my turn!"
"Then it's my turn!" Inoue Kazumi stepped forward. "I normal summon Variable Gear Dragon Cannon!"
A tank-like creature appeared on the field, its heavy metal treads flanked by cannons and spears, with a metallic dragon head protruding from the center.
"Variable Gear Dragon Cannon is a Level 7 monster, but thanks to its effect, it can be normal summoned without tribute. However, when summoned this way, its attack is halved."
[Variable Gear Dragon Cannon, ATK 2800 → ATK 1400]
"Hehe, but next, I activate the Equip Spell Dull-Witted Axe!" Kazumi giggled. "The equipped monster gains 1000 attack points, but its effects are negated...
...Therefore, I equip Dull-Witted Axe to Variable Gear Dragon Cannon, increasing its attack by 1000 and negating its effects!"
Her teammates cheered her on.
Ryosuke: "Because of its own drawback, Dragon Cannon's attack is halved when normal summoned. But if its effects are negated, its attack returns to its original value!"
Akaike: "Not only that, but thanks to Dull-Witted Axe, its attack increases by another 1000! She's using both the positive and negative aspects of the Equip Spell!"
[Variable Gear Dragon Cannon, ATK 1400 → ATK 3800]
"Well, this level of play is expected from one of the Four Heavenly Kings," Kazumi said confidently. "My turn ends here."
"Then it's my turn!" Akaike roared. "I activate the Spell Card Fusion!
Fusing Koala Otter and Otter Koala from my hand!
Summoning from the ancient forest, the power of beasts intertwines—fusion summon!
Level 6, Koala Otter Koala!"
A swirling vortex erupted into a storm, and a massive, gray-black beast emerged, landing heavily on the field.
[Koala Otter Koala, ATK 2800]
"Next, I'll set one card face-down and end my turn!" Akaike declared confidently.
The trio was quite pleased with their opening moves.
Facing Kaiba three-on-one, they had established a powerful formation right out of the gate. It was hard to imagine how things could possibly go wrong.
