"DUEL!" x2
[Seto Kaiba, LP 4000]
[Fujimoto, LP 4000]
"My turn. Draw!"
Kaiba drew a card, then calmly revealed one of his hand cards and discarded it to the graveyard.
"I activate the effect of 'Thunder Dragon' from my hand! By discarding this card to the graveyard, I can add up to two 'Thunder Dragons' from my deck to my hand."
The card was sent to the graveyard, and immediately, the duel disk automatically searched through his deck with a mechanical whir. Two cards popped out, which Kaiba smoothly added to his hand.
"I add two 'Thunder Dragons' to my hand."
This simple first move alone made You Xuan's eyes widen with envy. Back in the GX era, searching through a deck required manually rifling through the cards and shuffling afterward—a process that could be tedious for decks reliant on heavy card searching. It wasn't until the 5D's era that duel disks became fully automated, capable of searching and shuffling seamlessly.
As expected, Kaiba Corporation's technology was always cutting-edge. You Xuan stared at the duel disk, already plotting how he might get his hands on one.
"I place one monster face-down on the field and set three face-down cards. That ends my turn."
"Hmph, is this really the legendary Seto Kaiba's duel? Doesn't seem all that impressive," Fujimoto said, trying to steady his nerves while maintaining his bravado.
A duelist's pride demanded they never show weakness. Many believed dueling was as much about psychological warfare as it was about strategy. If your confidence wavered, your deck would follow suit—cards would feel clunky, draws unlucky, and losses inevitable before the duel even began.
"My turn. Draw!"
Fujimoto glanced at his opening hand and immediately felt his spirits lift. What an incredible start!
"This hand... there's a chance!"
"From my hand, I activate the Spell Card 'Graceful Charity.' I draw three cards from my deck, then discard two cards from my hand."
After adjusting his hand, a cruel smirk spread across Fujimoto's lips as he eyed Kaiba's seemingly unremarkable face-down monster.
"Hmph, it seems President Kaiba doesn't take me seriously. Too bad—it's already too late to start getting serious now!
From my hand, I summon—
—Level 8, Tyrant of Terror - Archfiend Emperor!"
A towering black demon erupted onto the field amidst a crimson inferno, its massive sword sweeping through the air and unleashing a transparent shockwave.
"Ho ho, starting off with a Level 8 monster. Not bad for intimidation," Gouki chimed in from the sidelines, adding dramatic flair.
"The effect of Tyrant of Terror - Archfiend Emperor allows it to be summoned without tribute, though its original attack power is halved, and it will be destroyed at the end phase," Fujimoto explained.
[Tyrant of Terror - Archfiend Emperor, ATK 3000 → ATK 1500]
"What a joke—a paper tiger," Gouki snickered.
"Hmph, don't underestimate it just yet."
Fujimoto grinned confidently, simultaneously flexing his style points as he drew another card from his hand.
"First, I activate the effect of Tyrant of Terror - Archfiend Emperor. Once per turn, by banishing a 'Fiend' card from my hand or graveyard, I can destroy one card on the field.
I banish 'Demon Soldier' from my graveyard to destroy the leftmost face-down card on your field!"
Kaiba remained calm, arms crossed. His face-down card flipped over and shattered into pieces.
"The card you destroyed was the Trap Card 'Golden Idol Statue,'" Kaiba stated impassively. "When this card is destroyed and sent to the graveyard, I special summon a 'Statue Token' to my field."
A golden idol appeared on Kaiba's field, forming a protective barrier.
[Statue Token, DEF 1000]
"Tch, figures it'd be the Golden Idol..."
Fujimoto frowned, cursing his luck but continued his combo.
"Next, I activate the Spell Card 'Double Summon,' allowing me to perform two Normal Summons this turn.
I offer Tyrant of Terror - Archfiend Emperor as a tribute to Advanced Summon—
The dark overlord, king of chaos—
—Level 6, Great Beast Gadgets!"
[Great Beast Gadgets, ATK 0]
"The effect of Great Beast Gadgets doubles its attack power based on the original ATK of the monsters used as tributes. Since Tyrant of Terror - Archfiend Emperor has already been sent to the graveyard, its original ATK is calculated at 3000.
Therefore, Great Beast Gadgets' attack becomes..."
[Great Beast Gadgets, ATK 0 → ATK 6000]
"Six thousand!" Fujimoto laughed triumphantly. "In an instant, it surpasses the combined ATK of two Blue-Eyes White Dragons!"
Kaiba smirked faintly. "Hmph, now we're finally getting somewhere interesting."
"What?"
Despite such a strong opening hand, Kaiba's lack of acknowledgment infuriated Fujimoto.
"As expected of President Kaiba—his standards are different..." Fujimoto muttered, gritting his teeth. "But I'm not done yet. From my hand, I activate the Quick-Play Spell 'Deal with the Devil'!
This card can only be activated during the turn an 8-star monster is sent from my field to the graveyard.
This turn, my Level 8 Tyrant of Terror - Archfiend Emperor was tributed to the graveyard. Therefore, I can special summon this card from my deck!"
He sifted through his deck and selected the chosen card.
"Amidst raging flames and shadows of death—
—Level 8, Raging Death Dragon, summon!"
[Raging Death Dragon, ATK 3500]
"Raging Death Dragon?!" Gouki exclaimed, surprised.
It wasn't because of its strength but because this monster had been one of the signature cards used by the villains known as the Big Five when they were exiled from Kaiba Corporation years ago.
"Ho, so it's this guy." Kaiba sneered faintly. "How nostalgic."
"Next, I activate the Spell Card 'Shield Crush' from my hand, which can destroy one defense position monster on the field!"
The spell card materialized, and Fujimoto pointed toward Kaiba's field.
"I destroy your face-down monster!"
A beam of magical energy shot out from the card, heading straight for Kaiba's face-down monster. But just as it was about to hit, a sudden burst of black mist erupted, swirling violently and swallowing the beam whole.
"What?" Fujimoto gasped.
"Trap Card 'Scapegoat Darkness,'" Kaiba explained calmly. "When a card effect that destroys a card on the field is activated by the opponent, I negate that effect."
The black mist consumed the energy from 'Shield Crush,' and the spell's image faded away.
"Tch, blocked again," Fujimoto muttered.
"And as a result of negating it, I can send one DARK-attribute monster with Level 3 or lower from my deck to the graveyard."
Another card ejected automatically from Kaiba's duel disk and was sent to the graveyard.
Fujimoto clenched his teeth. "Then I activate the Spell Card 'Burial Spell Scroll' from my hand!
By banishing three Spell Cards from my graveyard, I can draw two cards from my deck!"
Three green cards popped out of his graveyard slot.
"I banish 'Double Summon,' 'Deal with the Devil,' and 'Shield Crush' to draw two cards!"
Fujimoto drew his cards.
"Battle Phase! First, Raging Death Dragon attacks your face-down monster!"
Raging Death Dragon opened its decaying maw, unleashing a vortex of corrupted energy. Kaiba's face-down monster was obliterated under the overwhelming force.
"Hmph, the monster you destroyed was 'Swift Squirrel.'"
Kaiba chuckled coldly as two more cards were automatically retrieved from his deck.
"When 'Swift Squirrel' is destroyed by battle and sent to the graveyard, I gain 1000 LP. Additionally, I can special summon any number of 'Swift Squirrels' from my deck in face-down defense position.
Thus, I special summon two more 'Swift Squirrels.'"
[Seto Kaiba, LP 4000 → LP 5000]
Two new face-down monsters appeared on his field.
Fujimoto: "..."
Not only were Kaiba's monsters multiplying, but his LP was increasing too.
But Fujimoto still had countermeasures.
"No amount of weakling walls will save you," Fujimoto declared. "Raging Death Dragon's special effect!
This card can attack all opposing monsters once. Therefore, the attack continues—Raging Death Dragon now targets your 'Golden Idol Statue'!"
With Raging Death Dragon clearing the field, Fujimoto planned to finish the duel with Great Beast Gadgets' 6000 ATK in a single blow.
He would OTK the legendary Seto Kaiba!
Boom!
Raging Death Dragon unleashed its breath attack, a fierce explosion engulfing the field in darkness and chaos.
But when the smoke cleared, the Golden Idol remained untouched, and Kaiba stood as composed as ever, his coat fluttering slightly in the storm.
"Counter Trap 'Attack Nullification.' Your monster's attack is negated, and the Battle Phase ends immediately."
Pausing briefly, Kaiba let out a mocking chuckle.
"Hmph, not bad for a rat, but it seems this is as far as you go."
"Tch..."
Fujimoto clenched his teeth, powerless to do anything further.
"Then I set two cards face-down on the field. Turn end."
