Chapter 490 - Chapter 490 – The Final Confrontation

The god's form coalesced from the shadows, a swirling mass of darkness and ancient power that seemed to consume the very air. It rose above Kael and his companions like a tower, towering over them with an eerie, malevolent presence. Its eyes burned with an unholy light, each of them piercing into the souls of those who dared challenge it. Every heartbeat seemed to tremble under the weight of its gaze, the very atmosphere crackling with an energy so potent it threatened to split the world asunder.

Kael stood at the center of the altar, his hand gripping his sword so tightly that his knuckles turned white. He could feel the pulse of the god's power, the sheer force of its awakening resonating within his bones. His breath was steady, but his mind raced. He had faced many enemies—kings, demons, gods—but this... this was something else entirely.

"Is this what you sought, Kael?" the god's voice rumbled, its tone deep and echoing, as though it was speaking from the very bowels of the earth. "To awaken me from my eternal slumber? You have not even begun to understand what you have unleashed."

Kael's lips curled into a grim smile, his eyes narrowing as he stared at the being before him. His heart thundered in his chest, but his mind remained sharp and focused. There was no fear here. No hesitation. This was the culmination of all his plans—the moment he had been preparing for. And now, it was time to see whether his strength, his cunning, and his determination were enough to defeat an entity that had been imprisoned for millennia.

"You are mistaken," Kael said, his voice steady, unwavering. "I did not seek your release. But now that you are here, I will ensure you will not remain."

The god's laughter boomed, shaking the walls of the temple. It was a dark, haunting sound that echoed through the very stone, reverberating in the bones of all present. "You would challenge me? A mere mortal, standing before a being of such power? How quaint."

Elyndra, standing by Kael's side, could barely breathe under the weight of the god's presence. The air felt thick with oppressive energy, the kind of magic that sought to crush every living thing in its path. Her hands trembled as she raised them, trying to weave her own magic in defense, but the god's aura was like a wall—unyielding and impenetrable.

"Kael," she gasped, her voice barely a whisper. "We need to get closer, break the connection to the altar—only then can we strike at the core of its power."

The Queen of the Abyss, who had stood to the side in silence until now, stepped forward, her crimson eyes glowing with deadly intent. "We do not have much time. The longer it stands here, the stronger it becomes. I will hold it back as best I can, but we must finish this quickly."

Kael nodded, his gaze never leaving the god. "Then we shall."

Without warning, he leapt forward, his sword raised high. The blade sang through the air as he charged, his every movement precise, calculated. The god's form shifted, its vast, ethereal body twisting like smoke, almost slipping through his reach as Kael closed the distance between them.

The god roared, a sound so powerful it seemed to warp reality itself. Its massive hands reached down, aiming to crush Kael beneath its weight. But Kael was faster—he rolled beneath the god's strike, the ground beneath him shaking as the impact reverberated throughout the temple.

As Kael moved, the Queen of the Abyss appeared beside him, her hands crackling with dark magic. "Stay close to me," she commanded, her voice sharp, her eyes blazing with fury. She thrust her hands toward the god, and dark tendrils of energy surged forward, wrapping around the god's limbs, seeking to bind it.

The god roared in fury as the tendrils made contact, but it was far from powerless. With a mighty swing, it broke free from the restraints, sending the Abyssal Queen flying backward, her body slamming against the stone wall with a sickening thud.

"Do you truly believe you can stop me?" the god sneered, its form shifting and rippling with malice. "You are nothing before me, nothing but insects trying to defy the inevitable."

Kael's eyes flashed with cold determination as he rose to his feet. "We will see about that."

He charged once more, his sword slashing through the air. The blade connected with the god's form, but instead of sinking into flesh, it simply passed through, as though the being were made of smoke. The sword's edge met resistance, but it wasn't the resistance of bone or muscle—it was the resistance of magic, of power beyond mortal comprehension.

Elyndra's voice rose above the din of battle. "Kael, you cannot defeat it with brute force alone. Its form is intangible! We need to sever its connection to this realm!"

Kael's gaze snapped to her, his mind already working, already calculating. She was right. The being before them was not bound by the physical laws of the world—they couldn't fight it in the same way they had fought others. No, this would require something far more intricate.

The god, sensing their shift in focus, grinned—a twisted, malicious grin that sent a chill down Kael's spine. "You think you can outwit me? I have seen the rise and fall of civilizations, the crumbling of kingdoms, the unraveling of gods. There is nothing you can do that will stop me."

Kael's lips twisted into a thin smile as he took a step back, his mind racing. The god's arrogance, its overconfidence, was its weakness. It believed it had already won. And that belief would be its undoing.

"Elyndra, the altar," Kael said, his voice low but sharp with command. "You must sever the anchor between the altar and the temple. Only then can we destroy it."

Elyndra nodded, her face pale from exertion, but the fire in her eyes never wavered. She extended her hands toward the altar, and a pulse of magic surged from her fingertips, weaving through the air like a living thing. The glyphs on the altar began to shimmer, the dark energy binding them to the god flickering as if uncertain.

But the god was not finished. It roared in defiance, the sound shaking the very foundation of the temple. With a wave of its hand, it sent a surge of destructive energy toward Elyndra. The blast was blinding, a wave of pure force that rippled through the air, threatening to tear apart everything in its path.

Kael saw it coming. Without thinking, he threw himself toward Elyndra, his body colliding with hers as the blast hit, sending them both tumbling backward.

The world seemed to slow as Kael's vision blurred. Pain exploded in his chest where the blast had struck. His limbs felt numb, and for a moment, he struggled to breathe. But through the haze of pain, his mind stayed focused. The god was vulnerable—just a little longer, just a little more time.

Kael gritted his teeth, pushing through the pain as he rose to his feet, dragging Elyndra with him. The Queen of the Abyss was already in motion, her dark tendrils reaching out once again, attempting to bind the god.

The god roared in frustration as it swatted away the tendrils, but it was slowing. Its form flickered, its connection to the world beginning to wane. The altar—its anchor—was weakening, and with every passing second, the god's hold on this realm grew thinner.

Kael's sword was still in his hand, the blade humming with power as he took a step forward. He had no illusions about the difficulty of what he was about to do. This would require everything he had, every ounce of his strength and will. It would be the final gamble.

He raised the sword high, the edge gleaming with a cold, blue light as he summoned every ounce of his power. The god's form wavered, its eyes narrowing as it sensed the danger. But it was too late.

Kael brought the sword down with a roar, and the blade sank into the altar, cracking the stone beneath it with a thunderous sound. The power that had bound the god to this realm shattered in an instant, the energy cascading through the temple in a blinding flash.

The god screamed, a sound of pure rage and agony as it was torn from this world. Its form unraveled, dissolving into nothingness, its cries echoing in the air even as its presence was erased.

For a moment, there was nothing but silence.

Then, the temple began to crumble.
