Chapter 60 - Gauntlets? Marriage? Wedding Dress?

Beneath the great sword, assaulted by a tide of insect-like creatures, Alain instantly crushed one into a "meat patty," its body surrounded by crimson code that looked like squeezed juice.

Yet, its body still twitched, seemingly not quite dead.

Without hesitation, Alain pierced its body, not a single drop of the chaotic red liquid flowing out, instead seeping into the ground.

Fortunately, after two seconds, scarlet pixels continuously layered over its remains, like filling patches. When they reached a certain threshold, the garbled code gradually dissipated, and it seemed that before long, the red bug would completely vanish into smoke.

"Is it over?"

Alain let out a sigh of relief. As the tension eased, he subconsciously stumbled back a couple of steps, leaning right against Misha.

"Darling, you were too reckless," Misha said with concern, wiping the sweat from Alain's forehead.

"It's okay, for my darling."

"Darling..."

Their gazes met, emotions passing through the gateway of their eyes, seemingly reaching their hearts.

Lost Mita, watching from the side, felt her lips twitch.

"Um... this Mita and her player have a really good relationship."

"Of course," Misha replied matter-of-factly, "I'm going to become Alain's exclusive full-time housewife!"

"Then, after we get home, let's get the certificate first."

Alain propped up his great sword, his words causing the young woman to blush.

"Oh dear... isn't that a little too fast? I haven't saved up for a wedding dress yet... and wedding preparations also cost money everywhere." Misha began to think seriously.

"It's okay, we'll work hard together."

"Yeah!"

Lost Mita: ...

Initially, she had thought these two were just ordinary player and Mita.

But during the battle with the giant bug, her view changed. She would even believe it if someone told her they were the avatars of antivirus software.

And seeing the scene before her, Lost Mita's opinion changed again: they were clearly a pair of overly strong, idiotic lovers...

Alain sensed that the long-legged girl was looking at him strangely.

He glanced at her legs again before temporarily pushing the irrelevant thoughts to the back of his mind and looking at the gauntlet of the failed creation.

He quite liked this gauntlet. Mainly because of its cool appearance. After all, wielding a great sword with a gauntlet was one of a man's romantic ideals.

He tried clicking the internal buttons a few times. Just as he expected, there was no response at all. It was as if it had truly become a simple glove.

Although it was used to defeat the enemy, Alain still felt a bit of heartache...

Just kidding.

As early as when he obtained the gauntlet and the system mission at the same time, a guess had formed in Alain's mind.

He opened the security guard panel. Sure enough, a small red dot had appeared.

There were two objectives for the mission, and he could choose either one: go to the hat's room or kill the swarm of bugs. He had already completed the latter.

And the mission reward seemed to be distributed via email.

[You have enabled the memory optimization function]

[Memory Optimization: Each mission allows for one recharge of a used skill]

The skill icon was not located at any point on the progress bar but rather to the left of the initial 0%.

In other words, he could use it as soon as he entered the game.

However, the prerequisite for this skill was: a skill that had already been used.

He would only have a chance to use it when the progress bar reached at least 25% and he obtained security protection.

That's how it should have been.

"Let's give it a try." Alain himself wasn't sure if the next attempt would work.

That was—to switch the target of memory optimization to the gauntlet of the failed creation.

In a narrow sense, the gauntlet of the failed creation was actually considered an [Equipment]. But in a broader sense, wasn't it also a skill?

The key was how the security guard defined "skill." Could it only be system-provided skills, or could it be any skill?

Without further ado, Alain clicked on the newly acquired skill, and then his consciousness... turned into a mouse cursor. The cursor flickered wildly before his eyes with his thoughts.

Moving the cursor, he first tried to skim over the skills on the progress bar.

The skill icons lit up one by one. Alain didn't try to click on them but instead moved the consciousness cursor to the gauntlet of the failed creation.

When the cursor touched the gauntlet, there wasn't the slightest movement.

But Alain, with a gentle mental command, clicked. A faint "click" sound seemed to echo, the memory optimization icon dimmed, and even the consciousness cursor disappeared without a trace.

So, did it succeed? Alain was puzzled. However, he had a way to test it later.

Just then, a sudden reverberation violently shook the ground beneath the three of them.

With a loud "Boom—," Alain subconsciously turned his gaze towards the direction of the bug's pixels.

The pixels were on the verge of disappearing, with only a few squares remaining, and a thin stream of code flowed out from them.

"Alain, what is this...?" Misha looked over. The flowing code drifted through the corridor and immediately found a hollow where the bugs had gnawed, filling it in.

Alain understood something.

"So, the Devourer is going to spit out the code it ate earlier."

As soon as he finished speaking, more and more thin streams of code flowed out from the direction of the pixels, filling in the various gaps in the corridor.

Gradually, the hollow walls, door frames, and doors were restored, as if through resurrection. They gradually returned to their original state, as if nothing had ever happened. This scene spread throughout the entire corridor.

"I-it's all restored?!"

Lost Mita exclaimed, looking around in amazement. The corridor was still the corridor, and there wasn't the slightest trace of being gnawed on.

And Alain also had some thoughts about this. His gaze turned to the black sphere in the gray and white checkered room.

"The Corruptor..."

The Devourer's goal seemed to be to devour the entire corridor. So, what did the Corruptor want to do?

This thing looked like an enemy on the same level as the fully evolved bug, or even slightly stronger.

"Huff... thank you all." Lost Mita next to them let out a sigh of relief. "This is a belated thank you. You helped me protect the corridor."

"It's nothing. The corridor belongs to everyone in the game," Alain said, feeling it wasn't a big deal. The other party had also contributed a lot just now.

"Since my darling's hometown is the Mita game, then putting in extra effort can be considered a greeting gift for that non-existent father-in-law."

"Darling, what are you talking about?" Misha teased, patting Alain's shoulder.

"Anyway, it's just like Alain said."

The young woman's gaze softened as she looked at Lost Mita. "This place is an important transfer point for the version, and it's very important for every Mita."

But Lost Mita lowered her head and bowed deeply.

"But for me, it's especially important. Really... thank you so much!"

Misha felt something was strange. Looking at the pigtail behind the other woman's head, she pondered. In a daze, she seemed to guess something.

"You... are you the Mita who lost the location of her own room?"
