Li Yunjia was indeed smart. She had already figured out that her eldest son and daughter-in-law already knew that something was going to happen, which was why they had asked her and her younger son to come to their city.
It was also the reason they had arranged for their uncle and aunt to come to dinner tonight and also made it such a grand affair with elaborate dishes, just to make sure they wouldn't have a chance to go back home.
This way, the whole family would be together in this disaster and not cause worry. She also started to suspect the real purpose of the medicine they had taken that could remove so much filth in the human body and change their appearance so much.
She didn't think it was a beauty product as they claimed. It must have another purpose.
One had to give applause to this woman. She was indeed smart and her thought process was unique. With such intelligence, one would wonder why the author had killed her so early on in the original book.
Such a woman should have been shown throughout how she uses her strategic mind to survive and protect her younger son until they find their elder son and brother.
However, considering that the author even killed the male lead, it was not surprising that he would kill such an incredible character early on.
Leng Pan was feeling overwhelmed because of the changes that had occured. When she read the book, she had been excited about the start of the apocalypse because she wanted to see how her favorite characters fought zombies and other greedy humans.
She also wanted to see how superpowers evolved and what kind of disasters the author could conjure. However, right now, she didn't want any of that anymore.
Even though she was mentally prepared and even had supplies that could last their family for two lifetimes, watching the devastating situation around them. She wished this was a dream where she would wake up tomorrow and everything had gone back to normal.
For the first time, she wondered if transmigrating into the book had been a good thing. At least her world was peaceful and all she had to deal with was a boring job and some hardships that come with the lack of riches.
However, when she felt the man next to her move closer and hold her in his arms, that thought was banished. If she had stayed in her original world, how could she have met such a wonderful husband? How could she experience what true happiness was and feel what being loved unconditionally felt like?
She leaned her entire body on her husband and held the hands that had met at the front of her stomach after encircling her waist.
She had only been in this world for a week, but she had already fallen in love with her husband. It was her first time falling in love in her two lives and the bliss that came with being loved by the person you were in love with could not be experienced anywhere else.
As such, she stopped thinking about what would have happened to her in another world and fully accepted that she was Leng Pan from this world.
When that thought crossed her mind, she felt lighter, as if a burden she had been carrying had been unloaded. She couldn't understand what was happening, but it was good.
She started feeling as if she was assimilating better into this world. As if she was really the real Leng Pan. She didn't understand the feeling, and pushed it to the back of her head. Once she figured it out, she'd think about it.
"Don't worry, I am here." Lu Zhen said as his hands around her tightened.
He could feel the changes in her emotions. He thought that it was because in their previous lives, the apocalypse started with torrential rains but now a disaster that had happened later on was taking place.
This could disorient anyone. So, he understood her feelings, but he didn't want this to discourage her. They could survive for years without preparations in their previous lives, and in this one, they would survive better.
The meteorites fell for a full hour before stopping. Even though it was only an hour, the loss they had caused could never be recovered.
What was the biggest blow was that there was no internet anymore as it looked like cables had been damaged or satellites had fallen.
In such a situation where the government had also been caught off guard, providing emergency services was also going to be a challenge.
As soon as the meteorites stopped falling, sirens could be heard coming from a far. The police, those who were still alive and fire fighters had sprung to action to start rescue efforts.
With so many disaster areas and probably millions of victims in the City alone, it was going to be a miracle if they rescued everyone.
However, they had no choice and could only try their best. Those lucky enough to be rescued can be sent for treatment. The others will be left to fate.
Some citizens who had not been affected but were close to a place where meteorites had fallen also joined the rescue efforts to help their neighbors who were affected.
Some carried water buckets to extinguish the fire, others moved fallen rocks and bricks of crumbled houses to look for survivors.
Others found some pipes somewhere and connected them to taps and started using them as hoses to extinguish the fire.
With combined efforts of different groups of people, many were rescued.
The family stood near the window from 7:00 PM when the meteorites started to fall to 9:00 PM when rescue operations intensified.
"Let's go and rest. Tomorrow is going to be a long day. We need all the rest we can get." Lu Zhen suggested as he took his wife's hand and started walking towards the front door.
"Son, where are you going?" Li Yunjia asked as she was worried her son and daughter-in-law would go out and join the rescue teams.
