Chapter 31 - Puppet Kings Game

During the events that took place in the throne room last chapter, Mordred had been restrained by Bob because she couldn't keep her mouth shut and immediately wanted to attack the crown-wielding King Arthur.

Her anger was justified but not very helpful in their current situation. So, when the knights had drawn their weapons and were preparing for war, Mordred's anger exploded in a palpable release of fury.

Bob, not being as physically strong as Mordred after she had activated her quirk, quickly lost his grip on her and watched in silence as she charged straight at the currently possessed King Arthur. Drawing the sword that Emiya had given her, she charged straight for an attack. But before she could even reach halfway between her companions and the throne, a black-armored figure with a giant black cross-shaped shield seemed to appear in front of her. Not deterred, Mordred went in for a slash to try to decapitate her opponent, but the black shield collided with her sword, blocking her strike as if nothing had happened.

As Mordred engaged the black shield-wielding knight, the rest of the group had to confront the other 11 knights. A knight wearing yellow and white, wielding a long spear, dove towards Leonidas. Brimming with fighting spirit, Leonidas projected his soul spear and shield and began to duel his opponent.

An armored knight holding a bow began to release arrows towards the group. Emiya, noticing this, projected his two twin pistols and engaged in a firefight with the knight. The two dodged and rushed for cover as they began a duel of ranged weapons.

Stheno and her sister hid behind Medusa as they tried to keep Asterios away from the fighting. However, they couldn't restrain his lust for battle for very long before he escaped their grasp. He charged straight at a tall knight in black armor, surrounded by an almost living black fog. The knight didn't even draw his sword; he simply tried to punch the small child. But soon he would learn that was a mistake, because as soon as he touched Asterios, his power was halved, and Asterios's size increased almost tenfold. Soon, the two were locked in a berserker-like battle to the death.

Izuku and Bob continued to use their previous strategy, but this time they faced an opponent with a very similar fighting style. A small knight, armed with a Gunlance, engaged them with frantic movements, forcing Bob to use his cannon as a weapon to defend himself.

A shining knight began dueling Medusa; the two were equal in strength and speed, but each had advantages. Medusa could fly, while the knight wielded a sword, preventing either from launching a proper attack without risking themselves.

Igris engaged a knight in white and a knight in black. Both were incredibly skilled swordsmen, but it was clear that their abilities could barely keep up with Igris's speed and swordsmanship. The situation was exacerbated by Artoria's Lightning quirk; she used her ability like magic spells, casting offensive lightning strikes that disrupted their movements. For now, it was a stalemate, but it was evident that eventually, the two would prevail.

Meanwhile, the rest of the knights were relatively normal, allowing Nana and the two sisters to defend themselves while they waited for the others to finish off their more formidable opponents.

This was a delicate dance; as soon as one side slightly pulled ahead, the other would lose ground and possibly even the clash. Eventually, the scale tipped in our heroes' favor. Bob and Izuku's opponent had a speed advantage, but that was their only edge. Their combined abilities couldn't match Bob's, and the small knight lacked the strength of Bob. If this had been a true fight against a conscious being rather than a possessed fragment, it might have been an equal contest. However, it was clear that this wasn't the case, and Bob quickly knocked his opponent unconscious with a swing of his cannon.

Izuku quickly assessed the area and decided that the person in most need of support was Medusa. Bob dashed behind the knight she was fighting and smashed his cannon down on the top of the knight's head, knocking the wisp knight unconscious. The three of them then split up; Medusa went to assist her sisters and Nana against the four less powerful knights they were defending against, while Bob and Izuku helped Emiya. They knew the other alters would eventually defeat their opponents or wouldn't appreciate their interference.

Bob began a volley of cannon fire toward the knight with a bow, hoping to give Emiya a chance to relocate and get a better shot off. With this distraction, Emiya was able to land a few devastating shots on the knight's arms, allowing both him and Bob to rush forward and knock the knight unconscious.

Soon, the rest of their companions engaged in combat began to overwhelm their opponents. Asterios's ferocity crushed his adversary, while Leonidas's additional skills developed through his quirk allowed him to suppress and knock his opponent unconscious. With Artoria's support, Igris knocked out the two knights he was fighting, leaving only Mordred to finish her match.

It was clear that her opponent countered her in almost every way. His defensive capabilities rendered nearly all her attacks ineffective. It felt like a fight between a machine gun and a tank; while the gun might have a chance, the likelihood of victory was extremely slim. Without a moment's hesitation, Emiya fired a shot straight into the joints of the knight's armor, enabling Mordred to knock her opponent unconscious.

"You glory hog! I was so close to winning that duel! I can't believe you would butt into a sacred duel!" Mordred shouted at Emiya, her anger boiling over. She had been mad before, but now she was furious. Deciding not to give Emiya a chance to explain himself, Mordred rushed toward the throne and swung her sword straight at the king seated upon it.

Everyone watched as the side of the sword smacked into the king's head. For a moment, it seemed like it was over, but then the crown moved. It appeared to float up into the sky, shooting toward the center of the throne room. Abruptly, the armor encasing the knights also detached, leaving transparent, featureless bodies on the floor. As these items and the crown spiraled toward the center of the room, they began to assemble into a giant armor golem.

Perched atop its head was the spider crown. "I guess this is phase two of the boss fight," Izuku said, just as a massive metal fist collided with him and Bob, sending them flying toward the throne room door. Quickly, Leonidas projected a group of shields to cushion their fall. Soon, all of the ranged fighters began to pelt the armored monster with attacks. Initially, they aimed for the joints, but since there was no one inside the armor, their efforts did little to affect the monstrosity they faced.

Asterios, Mordred, and Igris took on tank roles, drawing the boss's attention. Meanwhile, Medusa and Nana utilized their flight abilities to find better angles for hitting anything of importance, the most obvious target being the crown spider.

But hitting it was another challenge entirely. The golem kept raising plates of armor above it to block the attacks. With its eight eyes and spider sense, it had exceptional spatial awareness. The only way they could land a hit was by distracting it, but with so much happening, they struggled to keep up.

Then Izuku did something unexpected, even for his companions. He grabbed a rock from his pocket, one he had picked up when he and Bob were struck earlier, and threw it at the spider just as everyone else unleashed their ranged attacks. The spider subconsciously intercepted the rock instead of Artoria's lightning bolt, leading to its immediate downfall.

The armor golem beneath it froze in place and then collapsed, as hundreds of spider webs throughout the throne room lost all their tension. The puppet show was over.

== authors note

Yay this fighting chapter is over. I hope you enjoy the convoluted battle between our heroes and the Knights of the round table. I'm pretty sure I got all of them But there's a lot of people fighting so it's confusing. The next fight is definitely going to be less characters. I'll probably restrict the combatant somehow, because this was ridiculous to write, I forgot about characters existing it was bad. I had to go back and add paragraphs because I just forgot About some of the characters, maybe I still missed one you tell me. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it bye.
