The day of the summit arrived sooner than I wished. Leaders of each species had arrived the day before—some stayed in the cities, others within the pack grounds.
The grand chamber had never felt so suffocating.
The long table stretched so far across the room, it felt like it split the world in two. On one side sat representatives of the werewolf clans; on the other, witches, vampires, and humans. All of them leaders. All of them tense.
Kieran sat at the head of the table. I glanced at him—regal and stone-faced, his golden eyes scanning the room with slow precision. Beside him sat Freya, dressed sharply, her presence as composed as ever. Alaric sat next to her, arms crossed, and Orion beside him, silent and unreadable. His eyes swept the chamber, probably searching for Celeste. Geena was seated beside him, whispering something in his ear. Our eyes met, and she sent me a glare I couldn't help returning.
