CASEY
He raises an eyebrow, puts the car into drive, and doesn't look at me.
"Are you serious right now?"
"I'm just asking," I say, shrugging like it's nothing.
"And what if I did?" he says, his voice sharp, challenging.
I stare at him for a long moment, trying to make sense of my own emotions, and why I even brought this up. But then again… he's supposed to be my boyfriend now, right? Isn't it normal to want to know? Isn't that part of being honest with someone?
So I say, a little quieter, "I just want to know. It's just a question. I don't know why you're turning it into a whole circus. The answer is yes or no, and that's it."
He pulls the car out of the parking space, the silence between us stretching. I glance at him, but he still doesn't respond. Nothing.
Fine. If he won't talk, I won't either. I turn to the window, watching the lights blur as we glide through the sleepy streets. My arms cross over my chest without me realising it.
