Sil began his day- well, more so the beginning of the night, with a notification from Swinn.
{Sil} Morning.
{Swinn} It's evening.
{Sil} lol.
{Swinn} Hey, I wanted to ask, how many days do you have left here?
{Sil} About 4 days.
{Swinn} I see…
{Sil} Why did you ask?
{Swinn} It's nothing.
{Swinn} I wanted to ask about your travels.
{Sil} Oh?
{Swinn} Yeah, what kind of places have you gone to?
{Sil} Have I told you about the ocean planet? I fought against several beasts, and the cities had these pearlescent colors to them.
{Sil} Why do you ask?
{Swinn} Wow that sounds… Amazing!
{Swinn} I've just been very curious since I haven't left my home planet, and I always wanted to, but I just don't have a ship for that kind of thing.
{Sil} I could help you out, pay you for your services. What is it that you even do?
{Swinn} I'm a technician, although my job really has me doing a lot more than just doing technician stuff.
{Swinn} That reminds me, I need to go to work soon. Sorry I can't chat much longer.
{Sil} It's fine, don't worry about me.

Back in Swinn's house, he was making a chirping sound that was only audible to his species' ears. It was a sound that meant there was something he was really enjoying. The idea of traveling with someone into space and seeing the stars himself was a wonderful dream, but he had to focus. That was just a dream he had, and surely such an offer would have strings attached. He didn't want his boss to find out why he was suddenly so happy.
Swinn got dressed up for work in his usual outfit. A dark red technician suit. He checked himself in a mirror to ensure he looked presentable before running outside of his small wooden house. The place only really had a bedroom, a combined living and kitchen room, and a bathroom. Swinn didn't need to worry so much about his living space, but what was really worrying for him was the lack of food he had. He couldn't afford anything beyond the bare minimum of food to live, much less anything else.
Swinn exited his house near a cliff, double checking he locked the door. His work was close to the Lupanar zone, and was further away from where he lived. Swinn stretched his arms out behind him, and focused on his wings.
His fingers extended outwards nearly to the floor, and webbing was created in between, forming wings. Giving his wings a quick test by flapping them once, he jumped off the cliff and began to fly high.
Chiropterans not only could hear very well, but they could also turn their arms into wings. It was not an uncommon sight to see others of Swinn's race flying in the air as it was faster than walking on foot, but most often took to walking on the ground. Flying used up more energy similar to running unless you were gliding, but that was most best used for long distances and if the winds were favorable.
Swinn was scared of being late, so he took the risk to fly all the way to his job at the cost of being tired. He spotted his workplace down below, and dove downwards. He flapped his wings a couple of times before landing, and ran inside. As he entered the place, Swinn quickly swiped his card on a scanning machine. He just wanted to sit down and catch his breath.
"Swinn!" A gruff voice called out in a different room.
The curly haired Chiropteran gulped at hearing his boss call out his name like that, "Uh, yeah? I'm here on time." Swinn hoped he was right.
The door to the manager office opened, and out came a taller brown Chiropteran with a disgruntled look, graying hair, and blue overalls. His name tag read "Gordant" on his strap.
"Do you think I'm an idiot and wouldn't notice you were 2 minutes late?"
Swinn's ears dropped, but he tried his best to maintain a neutral face, "I promise it won't happen again."
"Tsk… that's what you said a year ago," The older man sneered, "The shipments need to be done, and several orders of repairs have been made. Lastly, you need to inspect several customer's ships and figure out their problems."
Swinn solemnly saluted, "On it." And began to walk off.
"Before you leave," His boss grabbed Swinn's arm, "Know that if you don't finish all of these orders by today, then you'll need to work overtime."
Swinn wanted to mutter something, but didn't want to risk his boss from overhearing. His boss let go, and Swinn rubbed his arm. Instead, he went to the room where he made orders and shipments.
Swinn was supposed to be a simple appliance technician, fixing household items and nothing more. That's what his job title says anyways, but over time working at his job, his boss made him incharge of more and more things. It started off with appliances, then electronic equipment, power, large machines, ship parts, and more, forcing Swinn to learn how to get familiar and fix these things. Swinn was paid peanuts for doing 5 jobs.
Not only that, but with how little workers were even hired at his place, he wasn't the only one that had to do more than one person's job.
Once Swinn sat down at his table, and finished making the calls for the supplies they needed, he leaned back in his chair and took a deep sigh. At least the room had a window he could use to see outside, even if it was only for a short bit. The stars shone brightly, and he stared outside wistfully. He felt his desire to travel to space again. This led to the thought of Sil, and Swinn was a little jealous of his job of being a traveler.
He shook his head to clear his mind, and begrudgingly continued about his work. Maybe one day he could go beyond his simple hometown.
