"My sweet girl… I'm sorry… I'm so sorry…"
His voice cracks as he holds me tighter against his chest, his hand trembling softly as he strokes my hair.
I shut my eyes tighter and bury my face in his chest as all the questions I nursed as a little girl come crashing down on me.
"Please forgive me… Please forgive me, my child. I was a fool. A big fool… I have sinned against you. Please find it in your heart to forgive your foolish father, dear…" He begs with his chest rumbling from his tears, and it's in this moment I realise that forgiving him might be something quite difficult for me to do.
If I'm going to forgive him, I need to… at least no why he hurt me so much… why he pulled himself away… why he gave love to my other sisters but only gave me cold, crushing silence and distance.
"Please don't cry, dear. Your father is apologising to you…" He whispers his plea, but it is no use.
