Chapter 47 - DIVERGENT KICK

"Lightning technique: lightning flash!"

In an instant, Kakashi was almost standing face-to-face with Tomura. Tomura tried to run away but it was too late.

"DIVERGENT KICK!!!"

Kakashi running at the speed of light, delivered a spinning kick on Tomura's face and sent him flying, crashing and destroying two pillars before landing upright at the third pillar. The ceiling trembled but it didn't fall down.

_Did he just use Yaze's divergent technique? So, Yaze taught him too_ Tomura thought as he tried to stay conscious, he was bleeding from his nose and mouth, his jaw was also broken and it didn't look like it was healing. _Damn him, damn him!_

Tomura flashbacked to when he was still a student of the academy and Yaze's teammate.

# TOMURA'S FLASHBACK (fourteen years ago)

"Divergent fist!!!" Yaze yelled as he punched the oak tree with force, and a large wave of karma was released.

Thomas who was seated on a log covered his face to avoid the dust from entering his eyes.

"Don't you think it's enough for today?" Thomas said in a calm tone.

"It's never enough!" Yaze yelled as he punched the oak tree continuously. Each punch left a mark on the tree trunk. "If I want to be a hero who would be able to save everyone, I have to be as strong as possible, or else I might fail them all. And a hero never fails!"

_Yaze was the same as always, energetic and stubborn, and his blabbing about wanting to become a hero_ Thomas thought. "How?, How are you able to keep going, no matter what?"

"Huh?" Yaze stopped and turned to face Thomas.

"Why are you training so hard? You know that wind technique is useless against other techniques, so why do you keep trying so hard to move forward?"

Yaze paused for a moment, then a wide cheerful smile appeared on his face.

"It's because I want to prove to everyone that wind technique isn't that bad. Besides, if I stop now, everyone who believes in me will be held behind me, so I must move on so they can move too"

Thomas was shocked at his response, but, he was also happy. _If I let him keep training without me, I might also end up behind him as well_

"Don't you get? I mean if a car stops due to traffic all the cars behind him will also be held behind, it..." Yaze tried to explain, feeling stupid for what he just said.

"I get already, you don't need to explain. I was just thinking about what you said!" Thomas said, cutting off Yaze's explanation. _He's so dumb that he confused himself in his own words_

"Boys, lu.. lunch is ready!" Kanade ran towards them with a basket in her hand.

"Great, I'm so hungry," Yaze said and fell back on the ground.

Kanade ran shyly towards them and suddenly tripped and fell over.

"No!!" Yaze yelled and was to her. "Are you okay?"

".. I'm alright, thank you" Kanade replied only to discover that Yaze wasn't talking to her.

He was able to catch the basket, without minding about Kanade who brought the food.

"Way the go, hero," Thomas said as he helped Kanade to her feet.

"A hero needs his energy if he's going to save the world," Yaze said munching on the sandwiches.

.

.

.

"Yaze?" Thomas called out.

Thomas was still sitting on the log with Kanade beside him, she held her sandwich with both hands and silently munched on it, still shy because of what happened. _Thomas held my hand._

"What's up?" Yaze answered, he sat on the ground with his back resting on a tree stump.

"How do the divergent fist work anyway? don't understand the difference between it and a karma punch"

"Karma is used to reinforce the fist, that's a karma punch but the divergent fist is different. When attacking an opponent, even though they can't block it, their reflexes will be activated, which means their muscles and karma will be forced to protect the part of the body where the attack is expected. If I'm using a normal karma-charged punch, it won't deal much damage but when using the divergent fist, you will be able to delay the impact, when your opponent notices that you have landed the hit, the muscles which were meant to protect the part that you attack will be relaxed and then you release your karma to deal an unexpected and more powerful attack" Yaze smiled. "I made it up myself!"

"Please, can you teach me your technique?" Thomas asked. "I mean the divergent fist."

Yaze paused for a while, looking at his sandwich. "I don't think I can"

"Why not?"

"I just can't"

"Is there any special reason?, just tell me"

"I can't teach you because your karma flow is too stable"

Thomas was surprised at Yaze's reply. Kanade didn't show any interest in what they were saying.

"Your karma flow is too stable" Yaze repeated. His voice was now calm and cold.

"Wh... What do you mean by that?" It was more of a whisper.

"The technique delays the impact of an attack, although it looks simple, it uses excess karma," Yaze said and flexed his arm muscles. "For someone like me, using it too much strains my arm but if you or anyone with a stable karma flow use it even once, you might not be able to use your arm again and it could destroy your karma network"

Thomas's expression changed.

"So, you are not going to teach me?" Thomas asked with a cold voice.

"I'm sorry, I don't want anything to happen to you"

# END OF FLASHBACK

_Damn him, damn Yaze. He didn't want to teach me, yet he thought of two other brats and the demon vessel too._ Tomura thought.

"Damn you, I'm going to kill y..." Tomura choked on his saliva as Kakashi punched his face to the pillar.

After Kakashi was able to successfully land a deadly attack on Tomura, he was still moving with incredible speed at lightning flashed all over his body. He stopped himself by grabbing onto a pillar to stop himself before attacking Tomura.

Tomura was able to recover but Kakashi punched him back. Kakashi continuously jabbed, each punch stronger than the last.
