Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: The Unraveling

The days after that kiss felt like they were slipping through Elijah's fingers. He couldn't focus. He couldn't breathe. All he could think about was Dominic. The way his lips felt, the way his touch burned into Elijah's skin like a brand.

He was trying to convince himself that it didn't mean anything. That it was just Dominic being Dominic—possessive, dominant, and relentless. But there was something about the way Dominic looked at him that gnawed at Elijah's resolve.

It was a look that said "you're mine." And every time he saw it, Elijah's heart skipped a beat.

He couldn't keep doing this.

Elijah paced back and forth in his room, his thoughts a jumbled mess. Dominic was playing a dangerous game, and the more he tried to pull away, the more Dominic seemed to reel him in. Every time he tried to distance himself, Dominic pulled him back in, closer than before.

Elijah wasn't sure how long he could keep resisting.

Just then, his phone buzzed on the table, and he glanced at it with a sigh.

Dominic.

He was done ignoring him.

Picking up the phone, Elijah tapped the screen.

Dominic: I need to see you. Come to me now.

He bit his lip, staring at the message for a moment. Something in his gut twisted at the thought of seeing Dominic again.

But then the frustration bubbled to the surface. No more games.

Elijah typed a quick response.

Elijah: I'm not coming.

He put the phone down, feeling the weight of the decision in his chest. It felt good to say no. It felt like he was finally taking control again. But at the same time, a part of him felt empty.

He pushed the feeling aside and tried to focus on something else.

But then his phone buzzed again.

Dominic: I think you should come. You don't want to make me come get you.

Elijah read the message with a frown. That wasn't a threat—it was a promise.

He gripped the phone tightly. He wanted to fight back. He wanted to say no and mean it.

But deep down, he knew there was only one thing he could do.

The night felt like it was pulling him into its depths as Elijah made his way to Dominic's penthouse.

The cold air bit at his skin, but he didn't feel it. His mind was too occupied, too consumed by what was waiting for him on the other side of that door.

Dominic.

Elijah stood in front of the door, his hand hovering over the doorknob. He could hear his heartbeat in his ears, racing. The tension in the air felt like it was choking him, but it was too late to turn back now.

Taking a deep breath, he pushed the door open.

Dominic was standing by the window, his back to Elijah, his arms crossed. His black suit jacket draped perfectly over his shoulders, his posture commanding and strong. He looked every bit the mafia king he was.

Elijah stepped inside, shutting the door behind him.

Dominic didn't turn around immediately. His voice was low, almost mocking. "I told you I'd come get you if you didn't come willingly."

Elijah clenched his fists at his sides. "I came because I wanted to."

Dominic turned around then, his eyes narrowing. "Is that so?" His gaze scanned Elijah, lingering on him for a moment longer than necessary.

Elijah felt himself tensing under Dominic's stare, but he forced himself to stand tall. "What do you want from me?"

Dominic took a step closer, his eyes flashing with something dangerous. "I want you to stop fighting me."

Elijah's breath caught. "You're not getting what you want."

Dominic smirked, his voice low and dangerous. "I already have what I want, Elijah."

Before Elijah could react, Dominic stepped forward again, closing the distance between them in an instant. His hand reached up, cupping Elijah's jaw gently.

Elijah froze, his heart pounding in his chest. He wanted to pull away, to tell him to stop, but something about the way Dominic touched him… It was like he was being pulled into something he couldn't escape.

"You're mine," Dominic whispered, his lips just inches from Elijah's ear. "And you'll learn to accept it."

Elijah's chest tightened. He wanted to scream, to argue, to fight back—but there was something in Dominic's voice, something in his presence that made him feel weak, like he couldn't escape.

It was like a trap he couldn't get out of, no matter how much he struggled.

Elijah swallowed, trying to regain some control, but it was slipping through his fingers. "I'll never be yours," he whispered, his voice barely audible.

Dominic's fingers tightened on his jaw, forcing him to look up. "You already are."

And before Elijah could say another word, Dominic kissed him.

This time, it wasn't a battle. It wasn't rough or angry. It was slow, deliberate, and filled with an undeniable intensity.

It felt like Dominic was marking him. Like he was claiming Elijah in ways Elijah wasn't sure he could ever undo.

Elijah's breath hitched as Dominic deepened the kiss, his hand sliding down Elijah's back, pulling him closer. Elijah could feel the heat radiating from his body, the way Dominic's hands seemed to control every movement.

For a moment, Elijah forgot everything. He forgot about fighting it. He forgot about the anger, the confusion, the resistance.

It was just Dominic and him.

And for just a second, Elijah couldn't tell where he ended and Dominic began.
