"You bastard!" Was all Carla heard and before she could turn, Damien was on top of the calm Rhys punching the living daylight out him.
"What are you doing!?" She shrieked, still not recovering from the shocks of being in the forest.
"Damien!" Not knowing what to do, she pounced on his back, drumming as hard as she could but Damien was a rock, he didn't flinch.
Huffing and in disarray, she winced as the sick sound of flesh hitting flesh continued and as if a scale was scraped off her eyes, her head snapped back into the door.
If Anna was in there, she surely could have heard the commotion and ran outside.
This time, her heart wasn't beating at all and she was afraid of finding out her suspicions were true.
She took one dainty step close to her sitting room but paused, she didn't want to confirm her suspicion but…
"Where is she!? Where is Anna!?" She heard Damien scream into Rhys' emotionless face and it felt like someone lit up fireworks inside her head.
'What did he mean by where is AANA!?' She broke into a run, tripping over something she didn't bother looking at.
She fell chest first, her heart hurt but it didn't hurt as bad as it did when she first heard Damien's question to Rhys.
She stopped at Anna's slightly opened door and peeked inside the empty room with Damien's tablet still playing the children show. Throwing the room open, her unsteady feet marched to the bed.
"Anna?" She sounded strange even to her own ears.
She called Anna's name again like Anna could just materialize from the air and hug her legs.
"Anna!" She called loudly this time like a crazed lady.
Her eyes caught the tablet on the bed, taking a hold of it she threw it to the wall over and again till the screen was black and shattered.
"Anna?" She looked under the bed, her eyes were red, her face was redder and she was trembling in suffocation.
Running out back to the opened door with an extraordinary strength she didn't think she possessed, she pushed Damien off Rhys.
"Where is my DAUGHTER!" She bent over him and shouted into his face.
Damien's red face dissolved into that of confusion and pain. He turned to point at Rhys but Carla had enough of it.
"No! You! Look the fuck at me!" She yelled again, her spittle flying in all directions.
Some neighbors had poked out their heads at this point but Carla didn't care.
"I left you for a moment!" She grabbed a handful of his collar.
"Few minutes!" This time, the tears come rolling down her face in torrents.
"First time with her!" She continued, looking for a word to explain how she really felt.
"And you lost her!!" Carla was a few seconds away from biting Damien's head off.
"Carla." Rhys' had his hands around her waist and without even trying, he took her off Damien into the house, ignoring Damien's heated glare on his hand.
"Let me go, Rhys!" She struggled in the sitting room.
Damien walked into the house behind them.
"Listen to me." Rhys' voice remained neutral and it was beginning to piss her off.
"No! You listen to me!" She decided it was best to glare at him.
Before she could say anything else, Rhys had his lips over hers fiercely kissing her, ignoring Damien's loud curses and threats.
Carla was stunned for the first three seconds but rage consumed her. She struggled with her lips to take dominance over his lips and she did.
When it was her lips in charge, she brought down her teeth on his lower lip, biting as hard as she could till she tasted the metallic tang of blood in her lips.
Rhys did nothing but clench his jaws and hold onto her waist as she kept biting down on his lip till she was satisfied.
"What …" Damien started to speak but one glare from Carla shut him up.
"My daughter." She looked like the devil's bride when she asked that way with Rhys' blood on her lips.
"I was in the kitchen, she called out to a man called Rhys and ran out of the room." Damien was back to wearing a straight face but beneath his calm façade was a brewing storm.
"I saw him." His eyes strayed a bit to Rhys' cold face before moving back to Carla's.
"Him?" Carla's glare could melt Rhys into a puddle of water.
"I was with you and you know it."
"Carla took several steps back from Rhys." An accusatory look on her face.
"But you delayed in responding."
"Something bigger was blocking you from me." His face betrayed a little bit of hurt but it was gone in a flash.
"What is going on here?" Damien was lost and he wasn't a bit happy to not know what was going on between the two.
"Stay out of it!"
"Stay out!"
Carla and Rhys answered at the same time before turning to focus on each other again, ignoring the boiling Damien.
"Trust me, this has something to do with them."
"THEN TELL ME WHAT IS FUCKIN' GOING ON!" Carla grabbed her hair but Damien was quicker in getting her to take her hands off them.
"Patience." Rhys' face finally crumpled, he was in pain and whatever Carla had at the tip of her tongue went down back into her stomach.
She fought her way out of Damien's grip and sagged to the floor crying her eyes out.
"I'd get the police involved in this. She shouldn't be far from here if you are not the one I saw." Beneath Damien's calm face, there was confusion.
"Don't bother." Rhys sat back on the couch, his face in his hands.
"What do you mean don't bother!? My daughter is out there without anyone to solidly rely on!"
"Get out! Both of you, get out!"
Rhys walked out first, his hands in his pocket without looking back and Carla's already shattered heart broke further.
She wanted him to stay!
Damien should be the one leaving!
