Chapter 16 - Night raid

A purple robed figure stood still against the moonlight that was shining on his non exposed skin, yellow eyes with vertical brown pupils watched with gleeful nostalgia as the stars shined and the moon blessed him with tremendous well being, vitality was running in blue colored veins that had lots of magic flowing through and he felt as if he could take on the a kingdom's army and tear them apart with his bare hands.

"Boss! Here is the report of how our mission went." Thane gently placed the 8 pages document on the courbaril wood desk, while the man he directed his word to gasped and flailed his arms around, then getting a grip of the armrest and slowly spinning his chair at him.

"Must you scare me this way, Thane? Do you want to be accidentally blasted with my spells?" The figure creased his eyebrows and rubbed his temple with 2 fingers, the hood covering his head made it impossible to guess whatever it was thinking just by looking at its face, although it was very clear right now.

"Boss, if you may read it..." Thane ignored the scolding and pushed the papers to his superior, who had glasses in his hand and held them in front of the eyes while reading the words put by Thane in the paper.

Speaking of, he hadn't seen when those glasses were picked up or since when he had them in his hands, not that he particularly cared or anything.

Reading through each word with cold calmness and squinting his eyes because Thane made the font kind of very small, the sound of the pages flipping was the only sound made between them aside from the huge party that was happening outside in the city, it was kinda muffled and annoying, both of them have already tuned it out of their hearing.

"So, if this is correct, not only have you captured a potential talent but have also almost been drawn into a decrepit church with an alluring force that compelled you?" Thane felt very accomplished but shameful that he was mind controlled like that, his expression soured and he gritted his teeth before speaking.

"Yes, i'm afraid so. I wasn't expecting the church members to have such power in their hands and lowered my guard too much. If not by the signal..." Thane furrowed his eyebrows while the boss flipped through a book Thane hadn't seen him taking or noticing when he had it again, he still didn't cared, the thought of having almost failed was still eating at him.

"Hmm, this is complicated, but it's kinda late and we aren't in any sort of hurry. Go to the festival, relax a bit, we have plenty of time in our hands. What good is working so hard if you don't take care of your own body and mind?" He was waving his hand up and down at Thane, that was his cue to get out and have loads of fun. He didn't really like going into crowds or loud noises, but it would be a lie to say he wasn't looking forward to the festival for its awesome dance performances and snacks.

Tho, he would need to go with someone because when left alone he would lose his hold on time and stay awake all night, so after closing the door behind him he started searching for anyone that would like to go with him.

Meanwhile, his boss flipped a coin and picked it up in between his fingers and made it pass through them like like a sea monster fearing against the waves of the ocean, before clutching it in his palms before putting his hand up like he was gonna throw it only to make various different coins appear between his fingers when opening his hand.

"The church of Ahnrak, huh?" He looked at the symbol Thane had drawn in crooked lines and asymmetrical design, even if it was badly done like that it was still recognizable as the one that was in the book he had in his other hand, he picked it up properly and carefully read about them.

After a while, he ended up noticing that he couldn't read anything properly because he was brooding against the moonlight in a dark room, he moved toward the light ball switch and turned them on, getting back to his comfortable chair and the coins nowhere to be seen.

"Not much is known about this obscure and mysterious religion, its followers are often those rejected by society who are embraced by the God Ahnrak as his favorites, although the rituals and ceremonies hold by them have been barely documented throughout its somewhat recent history. Its often said that places with the influence of the insect God Ahnrak are rich in natural resources, but its plagued with dangerous animals that might twist your sanity with their horrendous appearance and divine influence."

'It was really lovely to read this late at night, how delightful.' The boss thought so in a sarcastic tone while rubbing his eyes and stretching his back with the book still in his hand, when he used the chair armrest as an support to get up the book had already disappeared without a trace, not in his desk drawer, not in the bookshelf or anywhere in the room.

Sensing it was getting close to midnight, the boss went to his bedroom to sleep because there was nothing else to do in such a beautiful stary night with a festival going on besides getting a good nights rest, so he clicked his fingers and that locked up the door behind him, his heavy boots making loud noises as he walked away.

Meanwhile, a faint buzzing sound approached the building in the middle of such a cold and lonely night, the lights of the festival lighting up a yellow garnished woman who was flying through the air in search of a certain scent, her nun robes now more detailed and elegant than the previous black one.

"Siegmund, i will rescue you from these troublemakers!"
