Chapter 55 - Chapter 55 – Just Me

The morning air was dull.

No birds. No warmth.Just grey clouds crawling across the sky like they were lost too.

Asahi walked alone on the side of the road.No bag.No umbrella.Just the weight of 200 lifetimes pressing into his bones.

His feet dragged.

His hands trembled.

His heart—Didn't even beat the same anymore.

He looked up at the sky.

Eyes dry.Then wet.Tears rolled silently.

"…How will I even save them?" he whispered.

No one answered.

He bit his lip.

"After doing this much…"

The sentence hung in the air.

Then vanished.

That question—Left him blank.

Am I even winning?

Asahi's steps slowed.His face collapsed inward.Emotionless. Numb.

He had died somewhere inside and never returned.

Then—A hand.

Tap.

Softly on his head.

He didn't flinch.Didn't react.

"Hey…" a voice said gently.

He knew it.

"Are you ignoring me?" Anari asked, puffing her cheeks.

"Hmph."

She crossed her arms, mock-angry.

But Asahi just… kept walking.

No spark in his eyes.No smile on his lips.

"Ahh—HEY! Stop!" she shouted, stomping.

He stopped.

Blank. Cold.

"…Giving up is better," he muttered.

Anari blinked.

"What…?"

Asahi didn't look at her.

"Just living every day differently…""So no one dies."

"Just me… waiting alone… in the dimensional sphere… hoping someone walks in."

"Just me… waiting to kill them."

"Just me… killing everyone who touches my family."

"Just me."

He looked up.

"I'm all alone."

His voice was hollow.

Anari took a step back.

"…What are you even saying?" she mumbled.

Then—A blush spread across her face out of nowhere.

"…Wait—h-how was the date yesterday?" she asked, trying to sound cheerful, cute.

Asahi blinked.

"…What?"

"What date?" he asked, eyes narrowed.

"EH?!" she squeaked. "You forgot?! We went to buy clothes and—ahhh…"She paused."…Wait, I forgot too…?"

She tilted her head, thinking.

Asahi's heart dropped.

"No…"

He looked at his hands.

"No, no, no…"

Something was wrong.

"Everyone's… starting to remember everything…"

He clenched his fists.

"No… this is bad. This is really bad."

He looked at the black veins spreading from under his sleeve.

Another problem.Another warning.

"…Really, God?" he whispered.A tear escaped."…They're all going to forget me again, aren't they?"

Anari gently grabbed his hand.

He froze.

"…Why do you always cry?" she asked quietly.

Her eyes… weren't confused.They were worried.

"Yesterday…" she said, voice low."You cried so much…"

"You asked for help."

"You cried."

"…But you never told me what you needed."

Asahi looked at her.His lip trembled.

"I…"His voice cracked.

"I have to stop everything."

Anari reached up and gently combed her fingers through his messy hair.

"…Stop what, Asahi?"

He smiled.

Soft. Broken.

"…Sorry, Anari."His eyes filled."I couldn't do anything for you."

Tears ran down.

Anari giggled softly, trying to stay strong.

"…What are you even saying, dummy?"

She stepped closer.

"Asahi…"

Her voice dropped.

"It's enough."

"…Believe me."

"It's enough."

Asahi looked away, biting his lip.

He slowly took his hand out of hers.
