Cherreads

Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Parting.

The man, dressed in a fitted black suit, walked up to the siblings and announced his name and the reason for his visit.

' humm? '

" Good morning. I'm Nyxir, nice to meet you, Sir." Nyxir stepped forward and greeted the man.

" My name is Alfred, and I'm here on the behest of the Azure Guide." He extended his hand, and Nyxir shook it, slightly surprised.

Although the organization's representatives are prohibited from showing anger or being rude while visiting their candidates to prevent incidents of forceful coercion or threats, they are still proud representatives of the organization, and each of them has a strong backing. The prospect of one of them extending a handshake to him caught him off guard.

"Shall we go in to discuss then?" Nyxir pointed towards the dorm while he secretly studied the man's appearance, trying to burn it into his head and recall where he had seen him before.

"I'm sorry, I came late because I was handling some official business and I still haven't finished yet so I have to return earlier but I have compiled all you have to know on this document, you just have to read it and find me in the azure guide when you make up your mind. " Alfred shook his head apologetically and handed a small file to Nyxir before turning around to leave.

"Thank you, Mr. Alfred, I hope we can talk more often ." Nyxir bowed slightly as he watched Alfred board his carriage, which trotted away shortly after.

Nyxir stood rooted to the spot and followed the carriage with his eyes, his brow knitted tightly.

" Someone finally came for you," Olivia squealed from the side and snatched the file from Nyxir.

"Aren't you going to check its content? What are you standing there in a daze for? " Olivia looked at Nyxir with a perplexed expression.

" I just think I've seen that man before, but I can't recollect where, " Nyxir eased his brow and snatched the file back from Olivia.

"I am honestly surprised that someone came for me, and it will be normal if it is because of my rare aspect. "

' I just feel like something is off with that man, I can't help but feel like I've seen him before. '

"Well, it is still a good one, at least someone came."

"True," Nyxir nodded and suddenly froze.

"Can you recollect that man's appearance?" He turned to Olivia, who also had creases slowly forming on her forehead.

"It's like ..... It's slipping away from me, I can't recall it no matter how hard I try." Olivia shook her head slowly as the creases on her forehead deepened.

" You don't remember as well. Could that be why I felt he was familiar?"

"Maybe he can erase the memory of his face from the people he encountered. " Nyxir gave a conjecture and nodded slightly in approval.

"I think that is likely the case. " Olivia also nodded approvingly at the conjecture.

It is common knowledge that some people have an aspect that can forcefully block their features from those they encounter, so it doesn't feel strange even though this is their first time experiencing it.

The remaining day passed on quietly without any more visits from anyone except for Old Lu, who came back late and asked the duo about their day over dinner, which they happily discussed until they finished their meal.

Nyxir lay on the bed, his face to the ceiling, the sky was already dark, and a full, gloomy moon hung in the sky, casting its silvery glow onto the night.

There was no light in the room except for the little glimmer from the moon entering through the open window, providing a tiny bit of illumination for the room. The poor lighting did nothing to illuminate the room, but this did not hinder Nyxir's vision at all; he could see the room as if it were bright, and even the small corners of the room were visible to his eyes as well.

His mind was preoccupied with the strange feeling he had when he met Alfred, although he did not mention it, there was also a subtle feeling that made his mind quiver for a moment.

His intuition has not failed him since he reincarnated, and he has decided to keep a close lookout for Alfred.

" I can't remember his face or even his build. Will I be able to recognize him if I meet him again? "

Nyxir soon drifted off in his thoughts and returned to the dark world. He did not waste time and started training to increase his divine energy capacity in order to have a larger reserve.

He was the only person ever to wield both divine and spiritual energy and also to effectively be able to utilize both. Only that he doesn't know how to make use of his divine energy yet, except for strength boost and stamina, which have improved, but he knows he will soon understand how; only time is what he requires.

The following morning, Nyxir and Olivia followed old Lu to the farm to do a rudimentary weeding of grasses sprouting amongst the planted crops.

The sun was already out by the time they got to the small farm, and without wasting words got into action.

Each person already knows what to do, so their effectiveness is in how much work they can cover in a small time frame. Old Lu had strangely disallowed the use of any abilities, which leaves them to work as a mundane human, but their upgrade as diviners still reflects in their improved physique, therefore making them work without breaking a sweat, unlike their previous selves.

"I wanted to spend another working time with both of you on this farm before sending you off, but sadly, some things can never go back to how they were. " Old Lu sighed from behind them, causing them to simultaneously turn their head to the old man who was leaning on a tree trunk.

He tried to work as much as possible, but alas, his mundane body could not compare to the two monstrous youths who had gained superhuman ability. Even though they are still the lowest, they are still not at the level of a worn-out old man like him.

" I want each of you to leave for your desired organization by tomorrow. There is not much time before the knightly evaluation, and it only happens once in three years. You need to grow stronger and secure a place in stronger districts, and you cannot do that by farming here." Old Lu continued staring between Nyxir and Olivia as he spoke in a melancholic tone.

"What about you?... Won't you come with us?" Olivia asked in a quivering voice, she was doing all her best to restrain her tears, as old Lu always seemed to feel irritated by the sight of it.

" Well, I got nothing except this place where my memories are being created, and it is your life I don't want to bother any of you or be a limiting factor to your growth." Old Lu replied, looking straight at Olivia's eyes.

" You can not say you are a hindrance to us; you are the reason we got this far in the first place, and we can still progress even with you being with us." Olivia retorted.

" Isn't that selfish? I already sacrificed enough for you, and you still want me to abandon my treasured memories while following you to where I might end up dying suddenly without knowing why." Old Lu's expression changed to a dissatisfied one, and he turned to Nyxir.

" Don't be like her, who doesn't want to grow up; we will eventually part ways for you to be free and mature, so take care of Olivia until she is also strong enough to fend for herself."

" Yes," Nyxir's voice came out as a silent whisper. Although he was already attached to this little family, he knew they needed to part ways for their good because if a normal human stayed with a diviner for an extended period of time, they would be tainted by the divine energy exuding from them and due faster or worse.

' I don't know how an ordinary person lives so long without any traces of illness, but it will still be better to remain in this small, peaceful dorm to prevent future accidents. '

" Thank you, Nyxir, you are your father's son, you know. You never cried when your parents went missing. I was even thinking you were just an emotionally detached person, but I discovered you are only bottling your pain to encourage others. You are always very considerate."

'Then I guess I will have to start work tomorrow '
